The News
I am sure people are watching the $HIVE price. It is dipping below 10c now. This may have something to do with Bitcoin sinking to just over $80k after soaring over $120k for a while. Everything else is down so we have to ride this out.
Meanwhile Hive upgraded to Hardfork 28 with no real drama. The biggest change as far as regular users is concerned is that the value of your vote does not decrease as you use up voting mana. This is significant for smaller accounts who may only just be able to vote posts above the dust threshold (about 2c). Now they can keep voting, but once your mana runs out you have to wait for it to recharge. You can give about 10 full votes each day if you want it to full recover over 24 hours. See this from @acidyo for more details.
I assume all the nodes and witnesses have upgraded, but @gtg gives instructions. If I ever try running my own node then I need to understand this stuff. I shared a post last week about running it on a Raspberry Pi and I am trying to understand how much that can do for Hive. I do like the idea of being a witness if only for the challenge of setting it up. I saw this article about using old smartphones for general processing. They can be quite powerful, so I wonder if Hive could be run on them too.
Meanwhile in Meatspace
I think I need a regular section for events out there in the 'real world'. Last week I was at a mini meetup in London with @livinguktaiwan and @adetorrent. We had a great chat over drinks and some street food. I keep saying that meetups do not have to involve lots of organisation. If you set a time and place then people may turn up.
Next month in London is the Tokenize:LDN event where lots of tech companies will be exhibiting. Hive is running the networking bar and so this is an opportunity to make people aware of what it can offer. You can register for a free ticket if you want to come along. Our own @alessandrawhite will be speaking there.

- Last weekend was HiveBeeCon in Poland. @ph1102 was one of many people to report on it. It looks like it was a lot of fun.

- It was good to see @killerwot back on Hive. He has been busy with a new addition to the family.
The End
I will have a break from the dog house this week after a few weeks of drama, but there is always something going on here. Yes, I did see that @hivewatchers has been getting proposal funding some of the time, but this will depend on who votes for it. I know that is just one guy who is trying to deal with the many scammers who attempt to get unearned rewards. That could get far worse if (when?) the price goes up again and we have to decide how we deal with it. I do think that there needs to be open discussion on the best ways to deal with abuse. That is distinct from personal feuds that also go on here. We cannot control how people act when it gets personal.
I had some computer issues recently and need to get things working again so I can do the #Britlist next month. I did switch from Brave to Firefox to see how it goes. It is usable once you block ads on other sites and of course the @keychain extension is available for it.

Honestly, if you are thinking about running a witness, I would just go buy a BeeLink mini PC and save yourself the hassle. Unless you are looking for a challenge. You can get a nice Ryzen 7 with 32GB of RAM for around $300 these days in a super small form factor that uses hardly any electricity. I've been moving to these devices quite a bit, and I know some folks run their whole home lab off of them. I'd like to have my own witness node one day when I have more time to dedicate to it.
I do get it that it's worth investing the extra money to get good performance. A Pi 5 plus the extras is over £100 and will involve some compromise. You should be able to handle a witness node with your experience. I've no idea if I would actually earn from it. I may look into it next year.
No, I don't think I would earn much of anything from it. I just like the idea of supporting the blockchain. I don't think I have the connections, or the developer skills to ever make it into the top levels of witnesses.
I expect you could get a fair few votes as you have good connections. Just ask around The Pub ;)
Yeah, I would have thought so, but my SPS Node is sitting right around the 100 spot down from closer to the 70s before. I have a feeling not as many people care about that, but who knows.
Thanks for the update Steve. Been MIA myself and wasn't even aware of the hardfork. Love that your vote is not mans dependant anymore. This is a real game changer. And mostly so for smaller accounts like you say!
Now that the little guy is 7 months it feels like I can breathe a bit again. So will hopefully be more consistent.

I'm sure you have your hands full. When I see all these Hivers having kids I wonder if they create accounts for them. I did for my kids and even though they don't currently use Hive the accounts are curating and earning so they may have a nice payout eventually.

The coming bear market will drive many people wild but it too shall pass once more and we can all ooo and aaa at the next crypto fad to consume all of the price action oxygen :OD
Things have changed so much since we joined this thing with thousands more blockchains springing up. I've not seen anything that matches what Hive does though. I'm happy to have somewhere to blog that is not controlled by corporations. I've run my own site, but then I got hardly any engagement. It's not just about rewards, but I get it that many are driven by that.
Yeah, I have my own blog aeon's so and traffic was a pisser which is solved here. I still think the ole chain has legs but sad you say, things have changed so much
It's been frustrating to see other alternative platforms do better. Mastodon is thriving, but it attracts a geekier crowd, many of whom are very anti-crypto. I've not looked at Bluesky, but I've heard it's not so decentralised.
I would have expected more of the other chains to blog here. We do have some Dash people at least. I think people still tend to go on reddit.
I was in Bluesky for a while. It was slightly busy for a bit then started getting really quiet so I stopped using it. I used threads quite a lot now but obvs being meta it's super centralised.
We still haven't cracked that short form thing. Keep had their own threads but anything Leo related fails due to their sheer perceived scamminess
It's not going that bad for hive considering the crash of btc...

Trump: I believe next Thursday is the deadline and appropriate for Ukraine to accept a peace plan proposed by Washington.
Sounds like Trump's 'plan' favours Russia. I know Trump is involved with various crypto projects, but I doubt he cares much about the freedom aspect as he just craves wealth. We shall see...
Russia is close to the conquest of some major cities and key points and after that no big fortifications defence left ahead to stop them ... The next deal can be only worse if they refuse

Honestly, the Hive price doesn’t mean much to me. I’m here for the community, not the dollar signs. Still, it would be nice if the price bounced back so we can pull in new people and maybe get some of the old crowd back too.

Glad (and a little jealous, lol) about your mini meetup. I know there's a fair amount of Hivers here in New England, but we're fairly spread out (if I recall correctly - been a minute, and I've been wicked out of the loop for a bit). And glad to hear your computer issues have been resolved. 😊
I've not really tried to survey Hivers in the US as it's such a big job, but it would be cool if people could do some states. It's useful to know who's around. We used to have more in London.

It’s really sad to see Hive at $0.10. However this level looks quite strong which is a good sign. The best update in the recent HF28, in my opinion is the voting mana. it won’t decrease for up to 10 consecutive upvotes so you can give 10 full value votes in a row.
We have had tough times before, but survived. We have a community here who have fun from the engagement. It's not just about rewards, but I know that matters to some. If we keep powering up then we may do well in the long run.
