What Is Your Favourite Meal?
I listen to an interesting podcast called Off Menu where they ask celebrities to walk them through what would be their ideal meal. It is an interesting concept that absolutely works really well. They organise their meal like this
Perfect Meal.
- Still or Sparkling Water?
- Do you like bread to start or would you rather something else like popadoms?
- Starter?
- Main Course?
- Desserts?
- Drinks during meal? You can name a few if you wish
Because Hive is very multi cultural it will be interesting for you to copy and paste the above in the comments tell us what your favourite starter , main , dessert would be. Now my old pal @valued-customer told me a couple of days ago that a Captain on a Russian tugboat gave him raw pork fat and gave him vodka to wash it down which made me vom in my mouth a little bit. I have had a good think about what would be my favourite meal especially the main. For years I have been a fillet steak man. Medium rare with chunky fried and a bearnaise or pepper sauce but due to the rise in the price of beef in Ireland it is only on very special occasions that I would warrant splashing out on the ultinate cut of beef and before you argue with me about ribeye, ribeye is a passing ship and will never knock the big dog off its pedestal. I have been spreading my wings of late with pork fillet , duck, fish, you name it but I still crave a good fillet when I head to the good restaurants. I have a very very boring dessert choice as well but I absolutely love them. Ok before I go into it , I may as well start my list
- Still or sparkling water. When I moved to Germany they only did sparkling so I had a few years on the fizz. But I swiftly went back to still after the work holiday.
- Starter Goats cheese and walnut salad with figs**
- Main Fillet steak (medium rare) with bearnaise or pepper sauce with chunky fries.
- Dessert Panna Cotta
- Drinks Red Wine (no favourite) during and then an Irish Coffee after dessert. Maybe two Irish coffees. They are small.
So you know about my main. The dessert is decided the minute I look at a menu. If a panna cotta is on it then all bets are off. I just love them. Some come with some kind of fruit coulis but I scoop that up and just get rid of it straight away by downing it like a shot.My starter is a strange one because it took me 10 years to like goats cheese again after a friend of mine asked me if I would like to try the chicken and she stuffed my mouth full of goats cheese. The strong taste took me by surprise and I never tried it again until a few years ago and now I love it. Throw in a few walnuts and figs or beetroot and we are sorted.
So all is left is the Irish coffee's. I was at the Open Championship in Portrush and we had 3 Irish coffees and were absolutely steaming leaving the restaurant. Irish coffee's warm you from the inside out. Like a microwave. They do actually warm your soul. But we will leave it at the 1 Irish coffee for this one.

I have heard about the Russians loving their pork fat and can think of nothing worse. At least our crackling is cooked.

This I will always cook at home as at least I get what I want then and going out will try something I would not necessarily cook.

Starter: Interrogating you about why you're asking me what it is I want to eat
Main: Growing suspicion that the meal is toxic
Desert: Wondering why my back hurts so much
Drinks: I guess thaat's my blood

Gotta keep life interesting for the wait staff
I fucking love Irish coffees. The Good Lady hates them because on holiday she sees me go berserk as at every opportunity I think it is a good time for another wee irish coffee. Cue me being absolutely pie eyed but jacked up on caffeine 24/7 😀😀
Still or sparkling water. Always still, when the floor feels like the sea you dont need the fizzy
Starter Deep fried chilli haloumi, mmmmmm
Main Giot to be a lamb curry, a very spicy one. My current fave is a Mirch Garam Masala with extra green chillies
Dessert Tirramisu, after all, its got bevvy and caffeine
Drinks Red Wine (shiraz) during and then perhaps an Irish Coffee or a limoncello. Sometimes a patron tequila.

I love your meal. I am a fan of the haloumi myself. I never had a lamb curry would you believe, only a lamb balti. Im afraid of those some bits of grizzle on some lamb so I tend to go for chicken or beef more. The limoncello though. I have a friend that's father makes limoncello in Milan and whenever I meet him he produces a bottle. A couple of shots and I'm steaming. It's lovely though . 😂. Don't they do the aul' Celtic Coffee in Scotland as well. I was in New York last October and went to that Dead Rabbit down by Wall Street and the Irish Coffee there was unreal. They had nutmeg on the top and it was the icing on the cake.
Oh aye, they do it here and I have the odd one after a good dinner but abroad I go bananas 🤣🤣
I have made lovely a few times, it's quite easy..I think I even posted about it back on steemit!! Made fuck all but that was par for the course!!
Sounds like an interesting meal. This would be a tough one for me I think. I'm not sure I would go with steak. Probably definitely something grilled.

Alright, here you go:
My mouth is watering here at your main.
Still water. Don't think I am adventurous enough for fizz.
I like a nice greek salad with feta and a raspberry vinaigrette to start.
For the main I once took a bull while hunting with a chef, and he made braised elk tips (the top sirloin) in Jack Daniels sauce (he spared a bit of the bourbon for it) with chanterelles (wild mushrooms are one of the bonuses during elk season), and chucking that down my neck after the long day field dressing the elk beside a campfire was a meal I will never forget.
Dessert is cherry pie with vanilla ice cream
For settling the meal I have migrated to Glenmorangie straight up from Kentucky bourbon since then.
Also, I definitely prefer my pork fat cooked, even crackling, but, when in Rome...
You never disappoint @valued-customer . Braised elk tips have been added to my list.

Something of that, yes. It is maybe Japan's favorite food that is mostly unknown outside Japan.
At some point, coffee has to be classified as a meal. To me, that's what I love 😃

Main Course? two home made bacon-egg-cheeseburgers (patties made of hand cut filet, #justSaying)
Desserts? banana split
Drinks during meal? none - no time for drinking... but i'll join you for the irish coffee's after
These days, my favorite dish is kebab and my favorite dessert is baklava. As a Turk, I guess these are the most classic choices. But stuffed grape leaves and rice pudding are also two good choices.
I’m partial to a doner tellor myself . I worked with a good few Turkish guys in Germany and they used to bring me to the best Turkish places . The food was unreal
Most people love Turkish cuisine. We have dishes that appeal to all kinds of people. If you visit Turkey, you can eat even more delicious food.
I'm happy with tap water.
Starter would be a creamy mushroom soup
Main is cod in a nice batter with fat chips and mushy peas
Dessert is warm chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream.
I'll have a red wine and an espresso with dessert.
A good cod in batter could be the nicest meal ever. The good thing about this main is you could get it out of a nice chipper as well. There's a place down near me on the coast that has a queue out the door for their cod and chips. It is nicer than any top restaurant down here. The batter needs to be right though.
People will travel for good fish and chips. The chippy near us is good. Some restaurants do it well too.
I'm a massive fan of beef stroganoff. Also, I'm a huge stew guy. Gotta have bread with the stew. Stew is made for dipping bread lol.
Beef Stronganoff is banned in my house . I stink the place out after it.

Steak, wine and panna cotta sounds nice.
Would add pasta, ravioli, lasagna, fettuccine 🍝 with red wine, sparkling water, and some bread or garlic bread.
