Gimme That Boom

It was time. The family sojourn up the cold and bitter north of Scotland. We tried to do it every year to toughen the kids up.

There is nothing like getting forced to swim in the frigid waters of the northern Atlantic ocean whilst your parents throw stones at you if you surface too often to give you a bit of spine.

As usual, the icy wastes of northern Scotland provided scant entertainment as we drove.

On the road norf1.jpg

Hills and mountains conspired to look like Hulk boobs to make us think that we were away on a jolly and not a brutal endurance test.

On the road norf2.jpg

We stopped at Loch Lomond so we could rob some tourists to fund our expedition.

Regretfully, a child made the foolish mistake of going in the water.

On the road norf 4.jpg

The giant leeches made short work of him.

The cries of the leech ridden child and the incessant quacking of the ducks were grinding my gears, so we hopped back in the car and continued on.

On the road norf 5.jpg

We passed through many a quaint village but as ever the squint eyed locals clutching their testicles ensured we didn't stay long.

On the road norf6.jpg

Finally, sanctuary. We arrive in Malaig. The kids went off to hunt and eat crabs.

20250712_203613.jpg

I found a good spot to settle down in and got out my vital supplies whilst the kids started a fire for the wretched crabs.

Gimmethatboom2.jpg

Ah yes, this will do...

Gimmethatboom1.jpg

Cheers!

Ahhh, 'twas all going so well until we reached the end.....

Record temps up there I read? Stunning in all weathers. We're tripping home in August and Scotland's been banned this year :-(
Fucking Torquay it is then.....who am I but the driver.

Hope you and the family have an amazing time and the midges all get their wings burnt off by the sun catching them by surprise!

It was 28 degrees yesterday, in Scotland. I thought I was going to faint. Thankfully I got most of the driving out of the way by midday .

Weirdly enough, there has been an odd lack of midgies. Obviously I will be speaking too soon and will get savaged later 🤣🤣

That's a shame about Scotland, still Torquay is nice!

Bloody legit!

The photos...un-Scottish weather!

I don't feel at all sorry for those tourists you robbed, their fault for being their in the first place.

I love them tourists and all their stinking money! 😀😀

We have lucked out so far, it's boiling!

28 is legit for you folks, probably bordering on too hot. But thanks to those tourists and their money, bastards deserve to be fleeced. Long live tourists to rob!

They are a valuable addition to the holiday funds.

They're rich anyway, otherwise they wouldn't be there. You're like the Scottish Robin Hood. McRobin.

They have made traveling a rich man's affair, everything is geared at fleecing them!

Indeed, having to come from Australia where our money is worth almost half the value in Europe/USA/UK...it gets very costly.

That would suck. It's like killing the golden goose, I do hate the fact they do it

Those hills and mountains are stunning, you got me smiling a lot, and that is true, it so playful and entertaining, to swim and someone throw stones at us. More playful, when it is done by our parents. I think the person in the water will be force to become a very good swimmer.

It is very lovely, the throwing of the stones 😀😀

Those are some great pictures boomy!

Well someday, I got to get myself there. One of my advisors did his PhD work on the Moine Thrust Belt of the Scottish Highlands and I still remember the stories of rain, cold, wind and yes leeches! I need to experience it someday.

PS. I can't wait but get you this reference

https://www.lyellcollection.org/doi/full/10.1144/SP541-2022-299

This is because the paper is mostly history as opposed to geology and it has some fun pictures like this one!

That's the way real Scotsmen took selfies back in those days :) I thought you might enjoy this.

PPS: Loch Lomond is Captain Haddock's favorite whiskey, for the record!

Haha, that's blumming awesome. Often when I see the rocks and various formations up here I think you would have a field day!

The leeches always surprise everyone. People think it's just midges that are the devil to watch out for! 🤣

Hunting and eating fresh crab sounds amazing. Hopefully you don't pick up any leeches in the process. Enjoy your trip. Looks like a great spot 👌

I see. I liked fishing as a kid but I'm sure not every kid would nowadays. This was before the invention of iPad and phones and easily accessible electronic games. Fishing probably isn't as appealing to young ones anymore

I don't see it being appealing at all now to the youngsters. There is to much alone time with their own thoughts in it!

Ah... a proper vacation.

It's 28 and you have your shirt off??? Did I read that correctly and if true, is it possible because of all the canned anti-freeze you were consuming??

So you are teaching the kids to be pick-pockets early. Very good! It is always easier to learn things when you are young.

I've only heard of Loch Lomond in a song and it didn't say anything about all the leeches. Ewwww....LOL....

Beautiful photos for real.

Hehe, 28°c!!! That's like the hottest Scotland ever gets. Although we are a hardy bunch, we get poor tops off when it goes 17°!!

Lock Lomond is very nice, it was just a stop onto the greater things up north. I am very happy and chilled right now!!

hahaha,Your vital supplies are NOT that vital, you should have an energy drink or something similar hahaha, I really don't see you drinking anything like that.
When you mentioned trying to steal from others for the trip, I imagined the scene hahaha, the point is that with children it is NOT very easy to do this.
Rest, drink little, well, drink as much as you want hahaha.
I wish you a happy Sunday

Boomy on holiday! That would make a great movie 😃 So by the looks of your pictures, all of the down-talking on Scottish weather was just a ruse to keep the tourists out of the country?

The pictures are gorgeous having the blues I love, with views of nature that I crave, and a distinct lack of humans, which is the biggest draw of all. Throw in that handsome hunk of toasted Scottish Shortbread at the end and it looks like pure bliss!

I like your spine building techniques for the kids

0

Hehe, Scottish shortbread indeed! 😀😀

It is amazingly clear of humans apart from the van-lifers who like to come up and light a fire on the beach so they can post it to the socials. Then they get in their van and fuck off!

I do like to downplay the weather and mostly it loves up to it's shitness but just occasionally in summer it can be grand!

It looks like a perfect day for a drive around the countryside. I don't think I have seen many photos of Scotland with such clear skies. I wonder, are leeches common in all of the lakes in Scotland or was the child just unlucky? Hope you enjoyed your beer, I find they always taste a bit better next to the sea. Cheers!

I don't know if they are in all of them but they are in a few. It always surprises people because they are too obsessed with our other national predator - the midge 😀😀

I had to look up what a midge was, but now I can understand why people might be distracted by those. I used to go on summer roadtrips to Lake Superior in the US, there were flies there that would often bite. Not fun to deal with ...or camp near haha
