Everything Is Going To Be Alright

IMG-PHOTO-ART--72h788797-picsay.jpg

Coffee is out, are you coming in soon?

The Good Lady yodelled from the back door.

I grunted and twisted my neck around to reply.

Yeah, two seconds baby. Just getting this bastart out.

The never-ending rain of a Scottish Spring has softened to a mere misty drizzle and I had decided to get a bit of gardening done.

That bit of gardening being cutting down a giant bushy tree which had been going steadily rogue over the last year to the point it was sprawling all over the place like a horny brown octopus.

Which had meant a lot of sweaty axe-mongering to the point that I had gone so berserk I could practically smell Odin's armpits.

The hacking was now done and all that remained was hauling out the last stubborn bits of its roots.

I grabbed at the remains of its pitiful stump and heaved at it like I had time travelled back to 1992 and was trying to yank my younger self out of Big Wendy's bedroom before it was too late.

There was a grinding crack and it popped free. I squeaked as at the very same moment something also popped in my shoulder.

A lesser man would have screamed and burst into tears at the wrenching pain that bloomed through my shoulder spreading out round my body like a sped-up sex fungus.

Fortunately, I was not a lesser man and simply made a small mewling sound and fell to the ground in agony.

Some moments later. I stopped thrashing and groaning and lay still.

I was ok. I was sure I was ok. The pain has stopped. It was all good.

I moved my arm and squealed in torment as my shoulder flared up with more pain than any handsome man should ever have to face.

Fuck!?

My right arm seemed to be fucked. Well, maybe not my arm but my shoulder was and it was unfortunately the fleshy bit that attached my arm to the rest of me.

Wincing I pulled myself up from the ground and tried not to move my afflicted limb.

You'll be ok big dawg, it's just a flesh wound. Everything is going to be alright.

I felt sick with the pain. Genuinely sick and not Instagram influencer sick.

Holy shit, are you ok? You're awfully pale?

The Good Lady squawked with concern as I staggered into the Kitchen.

S'cool sweetcheeks. All good. Just tugged a little something in my shoulder. Don't worry, it's a man thing. I will be fine in ten minutes.

I limped into the lounge and gently sank into the armchair. Bollocks, it fucking hurt to sit as my shoulder throbbed when my arm hung unsupported. Gingerly, I twisted a cushion under my arm and relaxed a bit. The pain receded for a moment leaving only the throbby ache that made you feel slightly sick as if you had found your Grandad's Watersports magazines at the back of a cupboard and they had nothing to do with jet-skis and boats.

The Good Lady bought me my coffee, frowning with worry as she saw me flinching with managony as I attempted to lift it with my right hand.

Are you sure it is ok? You don't need to go to the hospital? You don't look right.

She did look worried. I had to admit, I was a tad myself.

But pain is for the weak and I didn't get to where I was by snivelling about a little twinge every five minutes.

A-Okay, babycakes. Just a scratch. Be better in the morning.

I smiled and tried not to burst out crying with the pain.

If you say so, shall I get you some painkillers?

Funk aye. The big nasty ones with all the codeine, please.

She returned moments later and handed me a couple with some water which I necked.

Eventually, I could feel them kicking in and didn't feel quite so sick with pain.

It's gonna be alright Dawg-Man. You are going to be alright. Everything is going to be alright.

I thought to pass a little time and picked up my guitar with my left hand but as I attempted to lift my right arm away from my body a squarbly jet of pain stabbed out from my shoulder into my brain.

Carefully, I put the guitar back down.

It's ok. Everything is going to be alright. Just have to take it easy for a while. I took a deep breath and tried to relax. It was all good. Everything was all good.

I dozed a little before being awoken by a Wookie's grumble in my nethers. Darn, I need a number two. Stat.

I headed to the toilet and evacuated my bowels with an expertise born of years of number two'ing. However, as I reached for the toilet paper my arm spasmed with pain. Oh shit?! My wiping arm? How the fuck was I going to get around this?

It's ok. You can wipe with your left Snoop Dawg. Everything is alright, you are going to be fine.

Much later after an excessive amount of shoddy wiping, I made it back downstairs.

I felt a bit weak and shaky. It's going to be alright, I told myself. Everything is going to be alright.

The Good Lady came into the room with a glass of wine in each hand and put one down on the table beside me.

Here, thought this might cheer you up.

She smiled and I did too. Wine, of course. That would sort everything. Everything was definitely going to be alright.

I stretched out a hand to pick up my glass and yelped like a cocker spaniel having its nipples waxed.

Hot flaming bat shits, my injured arm is my wine-drinking arm?! What was I going to do?!

Everything is NOT going to be alright.

Nah, although if it doesn't improve dramatically in the next day or two I might. I think it will, I am sure it is just a sprain/strain thing

Could you have dislocated it? That would certainly be better than torn ligaments.

It's likely you just need rest though, and some positive thinking :)

I know I havent because I dislocated the other one a few years ago. The doctors were quite impressed because after the x-ray to confirm they had to take another one because it had somehow wormed its way back in!

Rest and positive thinking sounds good to me!

Yeah, they had to do another xray to make sure all was well but it happened almost straight after the first one and the doc was looking saying hmm, it doesn't seem to be malformed so much anymore Still hurt like buggery for a couple of weeks!

Oh man, not the arm with thehandthatchokesthesnake attached to it?

Once I had a broken shoulder blade. Not just like that, there was an icy loch involved and me acting manly confident.

In the hospital the doctor thought it was just a dislocated shoulder. All it would need was a firm tug. Luckily she studied the scans of my shoulder and concluded it actually was broken. Glad she did so before starting to try and relocate it.

Reading your story sure brought back some memories. The whipe arm, having a shower and so forth and so on.

Seems like you may have snapt a muscle tendon in your shoulder. That is freaking painful. You might want to go see a doctor for that.

Good healing to you mate, hope you'll feel better soon.

Ouch! I am so glad she didnt start trying to tug that back into place!

It is quite painful but I am not moving it as much as I can and smearing anti inflammatory stuff on it. Seems to be helping but will defo see the Doc if no improvement.

Might not play volleyball for a while :OD

Volleyball might indeed not be an option. 😜

What might even be worse is that you won't be able to be at El Jeffe's side for a while! This might take some weeks, at least, to heal properly, at home.

(Was it the Bamboo? Those are a nightmare to remove.)

Anyway, hope it improves soon!

You know, that is the bugger. Working from home means now that I have to work with an injury like this. Just not in the office. I remember the days when home working was hard that we would get time off for these things!

Not the bamboo, wont be able to get that till next year, it is solid. Was a big halft tree sort of bush!

Time off / sick leave, seems reasonable to me. But these days it is about what others (not even being doctors) consider that still can be done: "You can still lift a finger, your task will be pushing in numbers. This Hospital bed seems very comfortable, I almost envy you, being able to work, lying on your back."

Bamboo is one tough mother. You might want to get a machine to pull that one out.

Yeah, it seems to have changed since the good old days. No longer can yo get time off will nilly!

I am hoping that if I give it a year after cutting it all back to stubs that it will rot a bit under the wet soil of winter and be easier to chop out next year.

I have the new one planted just in front of it because I couldn't dig it up so I wont notice it at least!

I once got my hand wrist veins twisted and it pain got my whole hand in pain but I was like oh it's nothing gonna be fine by minutes... Lasted for damn couple of months until therapist did her job..

Honestly you should see a doc...I feel your pain. Everything is gonna be alright.

Oooooooo mate, in all seriousness, I hope you have been to get an Xray. Torn rotator cuffs are no fun at all unless you're seriously into pain, speaking of which, and perhaps best not to mention it to the wife, but the pain is said to be worse than childbirth....lets just keep that fun fact in the mens club ;-)

Take care, but really, get down the ozzie!

I think most pain is worse than childbirth. I love telling the missus that. Sometimes when I have the beer shits I tell her it's worse than childbirth. She goes nuts, hahah!

I am giving it a couple of days before seeing the doc. I am hoping it improves. I don't think it is the rotator cuff, as if I would know, lol. It seems to be when I lift it out a certain way. So I keep it hugged in tight to my chest and everything is A-ok but I look like a fanny!

Thought it was a cuppa that sorts everything? It's wine, really? Oh dear, nothing to cheer me up should it be needed.. 😕
Can you use your left hand? That's what some countries do, don't they? No need for paper even, and who needs knives and forks anyway..

A real trouper:

I smiled and tried not to burst out crying with the pain 😂

Hope, you're on the mend soon, I can relate to your pain after years of agony..
You take care now, sit down and drink that wine as prescribed..

An excuse to WFH for the foreseeable future? I notice @nathen007 mentioned 'Torn rotator cuffs'. If so.., these are seriously bad news.

Mine is just about healing from a UX fall last October. They say they don't heal but they do, just takes fucking ages.

I bloody hope its not that, It only affects it when I lift it outward to the side. I can lift it up frontward and across my chest a tad. It was totally unexpected. I was just yanking a root. Bloody getting old injuries!

Hows your sleeping? If it's a rotator then you won't be able to sleep on that side for a good 6 months. I had to take Ibu's and Codeine every night for this long and it's just starting to settle. Even on ur back it wakes you up in the night to remind you it's there..

0

Doc will tell you straight away from the position it hurts and the position you can hold it pain free and I was like you could tuck it to my chest with elbow bent but if I moved it....

Vultures are circling here mate ....get it checked :-)

I didn't go to the docs, it's a pain in the arse now getting an appointment, a far cry from your days here. It's almost fixed now, and the second time I have aggravated it. Climbing things I have no right to at my age does not help.

0

It's funny you say that. I can sleep on that side if I gingerly lever myself into a comfy position but my sleep was rubbish because When I moved off it or rolled onto it when asleep it woke me up.

I cant lie on my back either for the awful snoring. Been taking Co-Codamol and Foxy Naproxen which seems to do the trick. I have the naproxen left over from doing my knee in on the stairs. If they run out and there isn't a marked improvement I will be at the docs faster than you can blink

It is interesting to see how times have changed though from reading your stories, and of course the things that haven't. Politics and subterfuge in the stairwell is still a classic!

I hope it turned out to be something more easily fixable that it sounds. Sorry that happened to you.

I am thinking it feels a wee bit better now with rest and anti-inflammatories. And painkillers. Don't forget them. Life is quite good on all that. Throw in some wine and you are laughing.

I think it is that. I have narrowed it down to one bit which is tender and hot. It feels like one muscle and it definitely only seems to be in one plane of movement so I think rest and all that will help. Fucking gardening. Just when you think you can start you get humped by something!

Did you dislocate it?

If so, you are likely too late to reset it ... but ...

Resetting a Dislocated Shoulder

A good friend dislocated his shoulder after an evening with his girlfriend... When he awoke, he didn't realize his arm was under her and somehow wrenched it out of his socket. Of course, we all joke that he rolled over and saw her without her makeup and tried to flee - but was trapped - so he tried to sacrifice the arm and escape.

It's funnier now since his girlfriend is now his wife and she tells the same story. Proud that she managed to capture her prey.

Rest/Heal up. Those guitar strings won't strum themselves.

Lol, ooh man, thats an awesome tale for them to have. The Good Lady actually gave me a scar on my leg from giving me a student hot water bottle back in the day which was a glass bottle filled with boiling water with a thick sock around it. She thought she was doing me a favour on a cold night sticking it in the bed with a drunk me. I of course sensed the heat and leaned my leg on it for ages. Didnt notice till I saw the gigantic water blister the next day! Took months to heal and now I have a white flimsy piece of scar tissue on my leg.

Defo not dislocated, I did that before and think I might recognise it!

Damn! Now, the wine part made you realize finally that everything's not going to be alright. And this was way beyond the manly thing and staying strong instead of whinnying in pain.. but something that needed to be checked and prescriptions applied to heal faster.

Did you do? I mean go to the hospital or see a doctor. How soon did you do it? Was it after you couldn't lift the wine glass properly? How long did it take you to heal? I hope you healed though.

By the way, I had a feeling there will be a mess or two in the toilet after your number two because you were using your left hand for your clean up and I wondered if you were able to leave the toilet without leaving a bit of a mess in there.

Oh man, so sorry to hear about the injury! Sounds like a rotator cuff injury.

It happened to my dad, only he injured both shoulder sockets at once. He was walking my brother's very large and rambunctious dogs when it happened or should I say they were taking him for a brisk jog. Leave it to my pops to take it to the extreme. I have no idea how he did much of anything for himself for the next few weeks. Keep the vino close at hand my bother!

if your arm is badly hurt, you need to do some rest mate. Do you really know how to play the guitar? if yes, when you are recording a video for all of us?

Shit man that sucks!
Dislocated
Torn rotator cuff
Torn deltoid

Which one of these 3 was it?! I sure as shit hope you went to get an X-ray! You may even need an MRI depending on the results of the X-ray.

It sucks when we try to do something that we could have years ago and our body gives us a big old “nope, sorry asshole you didn’t stretch let’s get you an injury” lol.

For this very reason of anticipating something like this, I’ve practiced wiping my ass and brushing my teeth, not at the same time and with hand washing between of course, with my left hand so that I can get used to doing them while I’m not jacked up. Not fun but shit happens! Lol

I wasnt even sure what the deltiod one was but I had a google and it looks like that would fit the symptoms!

I haven't been to the docs but it genuinely seems to be improving a little and that has been a short space of time so I am hoping it is not a full on pull or tear and just a strain or something.

But yeah, I remember I could do as I pleased without giving a hoot for the consequences! Not like now!

Deltoid is an important one but you can live without getting it fixed. One of the most important things with repairing muscles like that is limit the sugar intake!! Sugar slows down healing of these things so it sucks to deal with it but eliminate sugar as much as you can and it should get better in a good manner.

I can’t speak much of it though because I partially tore my bicep tendon years ago but never got it looked at :D. It’s largely back to normal except I can’t do pull ups because of the strain it puts on it. I haven’t done a pull up or attempted in a while but when I was going to the gym all the time that was my biggest limitation. These things do heal, we just have to be careful with them.

In a couple weeks, I figure around maybe July you should do some light physical therapy to help give it some strength back. Keep that up for a while and you should be largely back to normal! PT exercises for deltoid are super easy too, can get a resistance band off Amazon for like 5$ and that’s all you need. Look up a few videos and bam, you save a trip to the doctor.

Oh that is good to know. By limiting my movement these last days I have noticed a difference already. It is not that horrifying deep ache anymore and I can move my arm in a wider range without screaming. I have a resistance band or two from previous injuries so I think you are right. I will check out a couple of vids and see what I can be doing to help it. It is a bummer now that you mention pull ups as that is one of my mainstays in the gym as it is sog good! We do have one of those ones that assist your weight though so I can pile the pounds on that to make myself light when ready!

Till then, easy does it!

Everything will be fine and you will overcome it, you are the supreme leader precisely because of your strength and resistance to pain.

You should have thought about leaving the tree in the garden we could have made a beaver trap out of it and you would have saved yourself some heartache, it's gone now.
Update me on your boss conditions!
If you need to, the anti-reptilian extermination squad will come to you in a heartbeat.

Meanwhile you have Your beautiful lady who knows how to cure you... in vino veritas! So said the Latins.
But above all, wine is a great medicine!

As I read this I wondered if it would end in injury. I've put my back out in the garden once or twice. Easily done when you are jerking things around at odd angles (oo-er missus). I hope it heals soon.

What you really need is whisky! God's own medicine.

Have a rest.

I have had whisky, I like to think it has made a difference. I think I can detect a loosening up of it already which is a good sign!

The garden can be a nightmare for injuries!!

I grabbed at the remains of its pitiful stump and heaved at it like I had time travelled back to 1992 and was trying to yank my younger self out of Big Wendy's bedroom before it was too late.

You made me snort in a most unladylike fashion. 😆

And then I kinda got scared. You need to go and get that xrayed immediately dude. Make sure it's not dislocated.

If @mattimix wasn't such a Bot he'd be able to tell you a story about shoulders, shit doctors and The Matrix that I think may make you sweat and laugh at the same time.

He doesn't even come up as around here when I tag him. I'll send this to him on DM.

Meantime. Post cool photos of your bones so we can get an inside peek into what actually makes you tick, when you're back from the doctor, please.

I suspect you're an alien anyway. So prove you're human :D

No x-rays for me, they wouldnt be bale to pierce my beautiful skin!

I am actually improving quite rapidly. It was truly humped for the first few days but I did notice an improvement yesterday and even more today! I am quite sure if I take it easy it will be alright in a week or so which I did not expect as it was so painful!

I would hate to attempt to prove I am human as it would ruin the mystique! ;O)

But if you're wrong I'm so going to totally say "I told you so!"

Hope you're right though. We need your hands in working order to keep us entertained.

Okay. Now listen up!

My old friend (and I mean he's old now and so am I a bit, but also that we've been friends for over 40 years now - holy f*ck is that even possible?!), Matt was doing pull ups off a tree branch.

Long story short was that he meandered around for roughly 5 months before a kind doctor who knew what he was doing (because the first one was a bit dim) xrayed the thing and informed him his arm was dislocated at the shoulder.

Two operations and some physical rehab and, over a year now, he is starting to use it properly again.

So I don't want to alarm you or anything but... there's that.

The second doc at the hospital was stunned at how Matt had managed it and how strong the shoulder muscles or whatever still were, btw. So Matt told them about his Qi Gong.

He was using it to get well. He's been practicing it seriously for thirty odd years. And the doctors at the hospital were pretty confused at how he'd kept going for so long and how strong his arm still was.

So... Matt tells them about his daily Qi Gong because he's been very disciplined and serious about getting better.

The one doctor laughs and says, "Hey. This isn't the Matrix man." To which, turning around slowly and lowering his sunglasses, while making direct eye contact with him, Matt says...

"Good evening Mr Anderson."

You'd have to hear him tell the story though. Accent and all. And he tells a far better joke than I.

Anyway. Better safe than sorry is all I really wanted to say :D

Haha, I bet there doctor liked that one!

I totally agree, it is better to be safe than sorry and if I thought there was something untoward I would defo go get it checked. It's doing good though, I can move it properly as long as it's slow and it seems to be getting better at a rate of knots. I will be playing piano and tennis assassin before you know it 🤣🤣

It would be funny to hear that with the accent too 😀

I've seen too much to be fooled by the old double bluff. You'll have to resort to mind control 😏

How's the arm feeling?

I hope much better, now is when I'm reading what happened while I was cleaning the garden, the good thing about this was that you got out of your comfort zone by using the other arm to go to the bathroom, play guitar and have a glass of wine, that's called being strong and accepting pain with gallantry, but in my case, I run to the hospital to have an X-ray to avoid major ailments.

Health for life

I am starting to get better I think. So it's a good thing I didn't run to the doctor's!! Although if I thought it warranted it I would have!!

It is good that it is under control, if you can move it without pain it is very good news, especially the rotator cuff, which helps to rotate the arm, is healthy.

Take care Mr☀️🙏

It seems that you have an injury, this is quite painful, remember that I exercise and I have some knowledge of the subject, I just hope that you get better and be patient while you recover, you can drink wine calmly afterwards, I'm sure
