The Debt

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about the modern challenge of sleep debt!

The Debt

Burning the candles at both ends doesn't end up being a very good idea!

I am one that tries my hardest to try and get into some type of routine. Whether that routine is exercising more, getting outside more or in this case, sleeping more. I am successful in some of these routines like doing a bit of exercise every week but sadly the big gap for me now and consistently is not getting enough sleep.

I am incredibly grateful that with the sleep I am getting, I am wasting very little of my awake time. I am for the most part working, cleaning, taking care of the house and my son, and then doing things on Hive. There is not much room for useless bullshit like TV or other distractions. I don't know if that's the best thing in the world, but I do get a fair bit of time for hobbies and things like that, so it's good.

I am getting consistently 7 hours or a little more of sleep a night and although it's a decent amount considering everything that gets done in a day, I for sure know that I need more.

I am a big advocate of trying to optimize things so that they become more efficient and I am certainly doing good optimizing some tasks but there are others that are sadly really not able to be optimized and you just deal with what you deal with. Adding those tasks plus getting to do some Hive activities at night is a little tricky in terms of juggling! I am thankfully in bed by 1030 but we do wake up around 6 for school and stuff, so there is that but every morning I wake up striving and telling myself that I am going to get more sleep tonight!

Tonight rolls around.. and the tasks are due and I end up putting off the sleep just a little bit more!

I know that this is unsustainable for sure, and eventually I end up taking a few nights every 6 or 7 weeks and I crash, and go to bed almost immediately after my son does lol. I know it's probably not the best to have a long sleep debt and then attempt to pay that sleep debt back at once in a week but these are the things that we try to do.

I often think about if I end up having another kid or two, what the hell am I going to do then? LOL if I'm tired now, how would I be able to manage a crying baby and sleep deprivation?! I ain't no spring chicken hahaha.

I think it's good to at least be aware of the problem. I'm thankful that I've made progress to imbibe less on alcohol and other things that fuck up my sleep more simply because it sucks having a shorter, and SHIT night sleep. Those mornings are certainly the worst! Lol. So there is for sure that going for me.

What about you, do you find yourself with a periodic sleep debt? What are you doing to repay that debt, if anything? Let me know in the comments!

What am I doing to pay sleep debts? Nothing really. I have many occasions of sleeping a bit late or shortage of sleep, most of which is caused by engagement in Hive Blockchain. But I don't take it to thought about paying those debts.
