Evidence of the Phrase: "What Money Cannot Do, More Money Can Do"

What Money Cannot Do, More Money Can Do

Is a common phrase in my country, Nigeria. It's a lighthearted phrase, though, it's supposed to show that money is really almost everything, and to show that there are levels to this money thing.

Recently the true meaning of this phrase played out during a conversation between I and a friend of mine. His younger brother got admission to the university and had two options for accomodation: the dirty school hostel or a renting a place outside the campus.

He went for a place outside the campus, but couldn't find any place close to the campus because all the lodges close by were filled up. He had to settle for somewhere kinda far from the campus which didn't even look good but he had to take it because it was better than the school's hostel.

My friend was telling me about how sad it was that his brother couldn't get a good place close to the school even though he had more than enough money to pay for the rent. He talked about how we always talk about how money is the answer, but that you can still be stranded even with your money.

To that I replied that what money cannot do more money can do it, that if you're stranded even with all your money you wouldn't be stranded if you had more money than that.

He argued asking what anyone could have done in his brother's shoes, that all the houses were taken and no matter how much you have you can't get a place.

I quickly reminded him that if you had millions to spend there is no way you wouldn't get a place. That you don't even have to bribe the landlord to kick anybody out or any cruel thing like that. You can just go up to a resident and make him an offer he cannot refuse.

Say the rent is 400k, you can tell a resident you would refund his rent with an extra 600k on top of it if he would leave the room for you. If he think that is too small you can add another 400k or so. Which young student is going to refuse that?

Then he'll move away, excited about how much he has just made, then you move in. When the landlord complains because the tenancy contract said the old tenant could not put anyone else in the house apart from himself, you tell they landlord you'll pay double the first year, see hoe he likes that.

That is a lot of money to spend, but it wouldn't be anything, because you have too much money. And that right there is a manifestation of the phrase

What money cannot do, more money can do.

The world we live in requires having money to live because everything that surrounds us requires us to spend which we are on the goal in making more of it.

Honestly speaking, I do smile when people say "money is not everything".... However,I believe that what money can not do do much money can still do it....

Really interesting point. Money can give you the upper hand on most aspects of life, especially when you know how to use it. I think even when we have money, we still operate from this mindset that our money can't pass certain doors, so we better stop here and try doing something else.

Times have changed and now those who say that money is not important are forced to think once again that we are getting everything with money at this time and the world is giving us respect only because of having money. So such people have not been able to recognize the world.

Yeah, what money cannot do, more money can do it but I still believe it is not in everything.
