After lot of time writing, selecting and editing pictures, back to continue our trip to Italy! As I mentioned in the last post, after the cold of the Swiss Alps mountains we decided to go to the beach to soak up the sun and heat.

We headed to a very charming city in Italy: Portofino! The name itself says it, a fine port!

I confess that during this part of the trip, I was tired, speaking in language, and a lot of information and new places for my mind to absorb, Budget was blown...

And How about you?!

Portofino

Portofino wasn't in our initial plans, but as we ended up renting a car in Milan, we started researching where we could go.

One of the options was to drive to Monaco, France, however, due to the number of hours driving we chose to go to a beach in northern Italy.

After some research, we were torn between Cinque Terre and Portofino, and Portofino won.

We left Switzerland and took the road towards Milan, where we spent one night in the hotel that had been paid for and reserved.

The day started in Milan with that typical Italian sweet breakfast with Cornetto and jam, a shame it didn't have my favorite flavor, pistacchio, but doppio espresso was present.

We left as early as possible and followed the road towards Genoa, a port city that is much bigger than Portofino and that one day I want to visit too, but this time we wanted a smaller city to visit.

After a few hours of driving, we arrived at one of the most picturesque places I have ever seen. A port with colorful houses facing the sea, crystal clear water, and several boats and speedboats anchored creating a beautiful landscape.

We spent a few hours exploring the city, walking through the streets and shops, and discovered that Portofino has been a destination for many famous people, becoming an exclusive vacation spot for many cinema celebrities.

To maintain its charm, Portofino has strict building restrictions to preserve its appearance.

We strolled around the port with luxurious boats moored and managed to observe some fish and jellyfish in the crystal clear waters of Marina di Portofino...

Chiesa di San Giorgio

On the way, Chiesa di San Giorgio, a small church located in the city center with charming architecture and traditional Italian elements such as frescoes.

Its location in the city is a reference point and we had the opportunity to visit the interior, admire the sacred arts, and take a moment to be grateful.

But for me, what impressed me most was this facade, which I found very beautiful, and also the incredible view you can see from up there, one side the sea, the other the city...

The floor with a Compass Rose drawn on it is also a separate highlight.

The statue of the Madonna del Mare also stands out high above, protecting the church and the city.

Faro di Portofino

Then we started a trail to the Portofino Lighthouse or "Faro di Portofino" in Italian, which is on top of a hill and has an incredible panoramic view of the city and the sea.

The structure of the tower is painted white, a really cool contrast to the green and blue scenery around it.

The lighthouse has a long history of providing guidance to sailors in the region and in addition to its practical function, it is a cultural and historical reference point.

The surrounding trees and vegetation are also a highlight, asking for a break to contemplate and connect with this incredible nature. I noticed several people sitting, talking, taking photos, and picnicking there.

On the way back, the trail makes a fork that leads back to the center of Portofino and the other takes us to Spiaggia Dell'Olivetta.

We continued down the coast until we reached the beach to try to cool off a little from the heat.

Spiaggia Dell'Olivetta

We begin to descend towards the beach and on the way there are several exuberant houses full of trees and flowers and gardens, which open up to reveal incredible views of the sea.

I felt like stopping and seeing the view from each of the houses, with that thought of: maybe I'll drop everything and move here?!

Of course, I stopped several times to admire the views and take photos. The further down I went, the more I could hear the sea waves until when we arrived, I saw this little hidden beach, I fell in love with it.

There was a family getting ready to leave and we thought: Now the beach is ours!!

And so it was, we could enjoy the beach, dive, listen to music, and relax. My only fear was the jellyfish, as we had seen some in the port. Fortunately, none stuck to me. Ufa!

This contrast between the calm atmosphere of the beach and a city with the vibe of Portofino showed me that this beach really is a gift, hidden, almost as if it were a secret.

After a good swim and relaxing on the beach, it was difficult to leave Spiaggia.

But the time came to leave and we had to go back, and to come back, the trail was more difficult, this time going up... The good thing is that we were already used to and in shape with going up and down hills all over Italy.

Castelo Brown

Another very famous tourist spot, but which we were unable to visit, is Brown Castle, which is located next door, on top of a hill overlooking the city and the sea. We couldn't get in as it was closed for renovations.

The panoramic view from up there must be really cool. I already want to go back to visit this castle and see this view.

We took the opportunity to stroll around Portofino's main square a little more and then went back to the car to take a snack break.

Portofino is a small and very charming city that lives up to its name, It really was a good choice to visit Portofino and this beach.

It only gets better!

S. Margherita Ligure

An Italian jewel of a city, which mixes the charm of the past with modern sophistication.

Santa Margherita Ligure also serves as a beautiful base for exploring other towns in the region. Great location.

This place has become a popular spot for Italian high society and tourists from other parts of the world who choose this city to escape the heat of the European summer on their luxurious boats and speedboats.

Many tourists walk around the region looking for a seaside vacation full of shops, restaurants, and art galleries, not to mention the charm of the buildings.

The buildings have eclectic architecture with different styles, some more classic Italian, and others more modern.

As you walk along the promenade you will come across elegant and colorful buildings and around every corner a unique vision of architectural creativity.

Rapallo

Leaving Portofino towards our hotel and arriving in Rapallo, to be honest, we didn't have many expectations about this place, but it was really cool to visit.

A city that was initially just a stopping point, surprised us with its mix of an inland city and a coastal city, with all the charm of an Italian city Vera, ended up being an experience in immersing ourselves in Italian culture.

Our plan was to return to Milan and enjoy our stay there, but we found a good and cheap place and decided to stay there until the next day, take the opportunity to rest, and then head straight to what would be our last destination in Italy.

With the check-in done and the car stored, we went for a walk along the seaside promenade, had some gelato, and looked for somewhere to have dinner.

Highlight here is Piazza Martiri per la Libertà, another recommendation we had and went to check it out. A very charming square that is a great place to stroll in Rapallo.

There are several cafes and restaurants around the square with tables on the sidewalk, great for eating outdoors in a cool environment on hot nights.

In the center, this beautiful gazebo with a ceiling painted with a wonderful and colorful afresco, all lit up creating a beautiful central highlight in the square.

We met some local people and they were so receptive, wanting to know where we came from, what we were doing, and other conversations. Conversation in Italian, even though my proficiency in the language wasn't the best, but the communication flowed very well.

Being in a more touristy city where not everyone speaks English took me out of the comfort zone of switching to English and I had to put my Italian into practice.

People were always patient with me, teaching me, correcting words and accents, and recommending restaurants to us.

We decided to try one of the restaurants which was magnificent, starter accompanied by a great Primitivo wine and then a rare steak, fries, and dessert. Just seeing this photo makes me want to go back there to eat more and drink more of that wine.

And that's how Rapallo, which was just a place to pass through, became a place to have dinner, shower & sleep, and also learn more about local culture, which makes me reflect that often the best travel experiences happen when you go off plan. and let it flow.

Now let's go to sleep as there is now only one place left in our plan to visit, this journey through Italy is almost coming to an end.

Versão Brasileira

Depois de muito tempo escrevendo, selecionando e editando fotos, voltamos para continuar nossa viagem pela Itália! Como comentei no último post, depois do frio das montanhas dos Alpes Suíços resolvemos ir pra praia pegar sol e calor.

Seguimos para uma cidade bem charmosa da Itália: Portofino! O nome mesmo já diz, um porto fino!

Confesso que nessa parte da viagem estava cansado, falar pra língua, muita informação e novos lugares para a mente absorver, Budget estourado...

E você?! Como está se sentindo?!
Securo?! Podemos seguir?

Portofino

Portofino não estava nos nossos planos iniciais, mas como acabamos alugando um carro em Milão, começamos a pesquisar sobre onde poderíamos ir.

Uma das opções era dirigir até Monaco, na França, porém, devido ao número de horas dirigindo optamos por ir até uma praia no norte da Itália.

Depois de algumas pesquisas, ficamos divididos entre Cinque Terre e Portofino, e Portofino ganhou.

Partimos da Suiça e pegamos estrada em direção a Milão, onde passamos uma noite no hotel que tinha ficado pago e reservado.

O dia começou em Milão com aquele café da manha adocicado típico italiano com um Cornetto e geleia, uma pena que não tinha do meu sabor favorito, o de pistacchio, mas o doppio espresso estava presente.

Saímos o mais cedo possível e seguimos pela estrada em direção a Genoa, uma cidade portuária que é bem maior que Portofino e que um dia quero conhecer também, mas dessa vez queríamos uma cidade menor para conhecer.

Depois de algumas horas de carro, chegamos a um dos lugares mais pitorescos que já vi. Um porto com casas coloridas de frente para o mar, a água cristalina e vários barcos e lanchas ancorados criando uma paisagem linda.

Passamos algumas horas explorando a cidade, caminhando pelas ruas e lojas e descobrimos que Portofino tem sido um destino para muitas pessoas famosas, se tornando um local de férias exclusivo para muitos famosos do cinema.

Para manter seu charme, Portofino tem restrições rigorosas de construção para preservar sua aparência.

Passeamos pelo porto com barcos luxuosos atracados e conseguimos observar alguns peixes e aguas vivas nas aguas cristalinas da Marina di Portofino...

Chiesa di San Giorgio

No caminho, a Chiesa di San Giorgio, uma pequena igreja localizada no centro da cidade com uma arquitetura encantadora e elementos tradicionais italianos, como afrescos.

A sua localização na cidade é um ponto de referência e tivemos a oportunidade de visitar o interior, admirar as artes sacra e reservar um momento para agradecer.

Mas para mim, o que mais me impressionou foi essa fachada que achei muito linda, e também a vista incrível que da pra ver lá de cima, um lado o mar, do outro a cidade...

O piso com uma Rosa dos Ventos desenhadas também é um destaque a parte.

A estátua da Madonna del mare também se destaca no alto, protegendo a igreja e a cidade.

Faro di Portofino

Em seguida começamos uma trilha até até o Farol de Portofino ou "Faro di Portofino" em italiano, que fica no topo de uma colina e tem uma vista panorâmica incrível da cidade e do mar.

A torre tem sua estrutura pintada de branco é um contraste bem legal com o cenário verde e azul ao seu redor.

O farol tem uma longa história de orientação para marinheiros na região e além de sua função prática, é um ponto de referência cultural e histórico.

As arvores e vegetações ao redor também é um destaque a parte, pede para uma pausa para contemplar e se conectar com essa natureza incrível. Notei várias pessoas sentadas, conversando, tirando fotos e fazendo picnic por alí.

No caminho de volta, a trilha faz uma bifurcação que leva de volta ao centro de Portofino e a outra nos leva até a Spiaggia Dell'Olivetta.

Seguimos descendo pela costa até chegar na praia para tentar nos refrescar um pouco do calor que estava fazendo.

Spiaggia Dell'Olivetta

Começamos a descer em direção à praia e no caminho várias casas exuberantes cheias de arvores e flores e jardins, que se abrem para revelar vistas incríveis do Mar.

Dava vontade de parar e ver a vista de cada uma das casas, com aquele pensamento de: quem sabe largo tudo e me mudo pra cá?!

Claro que parei várias vezes para admirar as vistas e tirar fotos. Quanto mais descia, mais dava pra ouvir as ondas do mar até que quando chegamos, vi essa pequena praia escondida, já me apaixonei por ela.

Havia uma família se preparando para ir embora e pensamos: agora a praia é nossa!!

E assim foi, deu pra curtir a praia, mergulhar, ouvir música e relaxar. Meu único receio eram as águas vivas, já que tínhamos avistado algumas no porto. Felizmente nenhuma grudou em mim. Ufa!

Esse contraste entre o ambiente tranquilo da praia e uma cidade com a vibe de Portofino me mostrou que essa praia é realmente é um presente, escondida, quase como se fosse um segredo.

Depois de um bom mergulho e relaxar na praia, estava difícil deixar a Spiaggia.

Mas chega a hora de partir e temos que voltar, e para voltar, a trilha foi mais difícil, dessa vez subindo... O bom que já estávamos acostumados e em forma com os sobre e desce de morros pela Itália toda.

Castelo Brown

Um outro ponto turístico bem famoso, mas que não conseguimos visitar, é o Castelo Brown, que fica ali do lado, no topo de uma colina com vista para a cidade e o mar. Não conseguimos entrar pois estava fechado para reforma.

A vista panorâmica lá de cima deve ser muito legal. Já quero voltar para visitar esse castelo e ver essa vista.

Aproveitamos para passear mais um pouco pela praça principal de Portofino, e voltamos para o carro para fazer uma pausa para lanche.

Portofino é uma cidade pequena e muito charmosa que faz jus ao seu nome, realmente foi uma boa escolha visitar Portofino e essa praia.

S. Margherita Ligure

Uma Jóia Italiana de cidade, que mistura o charme do passado com a sofisticação moderna.

Santa Margherita Ligure também serve como uma bela base para explorar outras cidades da região. Ótima localização.

Esse lugar virou um point popular da alta sociedade italiana e turistas de outros lugares do mundo que escolhem esta cidade para escapar do calor do verão Europeu em seus barcos e lanchas luxuosas.

Muitos turistas andando pela região em busca de férias à beira-mar repletas de lojas, restaurantes e galerias de arte, isso sem contar no charme dos edifícios.

Os prédios tem arquiteturas eclética com diferentes estilos, alguns mais clássicos italianos, e outros mais modernos.

Enquanto anda pelo calçadão você se depara com prédios elegantes e coloridos e em cada esquina uma visão única da criatividade arquitetônica.

Rapallo

Deixando Portofino em direção ao nosso hotel e chegamos em Rapallo, pra ser sincero, não tinhamos muitas expectativas sobre esse local, mas foi bem legal conhecer.

Uma cidade que inicialmente era apenas um ponto de parada, nos surpreendeu com sua mistura de cidade do interior e uma cidade litorânea, com todo charme de uma cidade Italiana Vera, acabou sendo uma experiência na imersão na cultura italiana.

Nosso plano era voltar para Milão e aproveitar nossa estadia lá, mas achamos um local bom e barato e resolvemos ficar por lá até o dia seguinte, aproveitar para descansar e então seguir direto para o que seria nosso ultimo destino na italia.

Já com checkin feito e carro guardado, fomos passear pelo calçadão à beira-mar, tomar um gelato e procurar algum lugar para jantar.

Destaque aqui para a Piazza Martiri per la Libertà, uma outra indicação que tivemos e fomos conferir. Uma praça bem charmosa que é um ótimo lugar para passear em Rapallo.

Tem vários cafés e restaurantes ao redor da praça com mesas na calçada ótima para comer ao ar livre em um ambiente fresco nas noites de calor.

No centro, esse lindo gazebo com teto todo pintado com um afresco maravilhoso e colorido, todo iluminado criando um lindo destaque central na praça.

Conhecemos algumas pessoas locais e foram tão receptivos querendo saber de onde viemos, o que estávamos fazendo entre outras conversas. Conversa em italiano, mesmo que minha proficiência na língua não fosse das melhores, mas a comunicação fluiu muito bem.

Estar em uma cidade mais turística onde nem todos falam inglês, me tirou da zona de conforto de mudar para ingles e tive que colocar em prática meu italiano.

As pessoas sempre pacientes comigo, me ensinando e corrigindo palavras e sotaques e nos indicaram restaurantes.

Resolvemos experimentar um dos restaurantes que foi magnifico, entrada já acompanhados de um otimo vinho Primitivo e depois um bife ao ponto, batatas fritas e sobremesa. Só de ver essa foto fico com vontade de voltar lá para comer mais e tomar mais desse vinho.

E foi assim que Rapallo que seria apenas um lugar de passagem, se tornou um local para jantar, tomar banho e dormir e também para aprender mais sobre cultura local que me faz refletir que muitas vezes as melhores experiências das viagens acontecem quando você sai do planejado e deixa fluir.

Agora vamos dormir que agora sobrou somente um lugar do nosso planejamento para visitar, está quase chegando ao fim essa jornada pela Itália.
