Happy Groundhog Day and My Weekly HSBI and DUO Giveaway!

Happy Groundhog Day everyone! Today the prognosticating groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, and is predicting six more weeks of winter. This is a fun event held yearly in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, if Phil sees his shadow he predicts six more weeks of winter, it not, then winter is coming to an end. One year I was able to attend the event, back when I live in Pennsylvania, it was a lot of fun. But it was also very cold that morning!

I do have a little bad news, as Hive prices have been a little high lately, I'll have to be cutting back on how much HSBI I'm giving out. So each week there will be one prize of five HSBI units, and second and third prized will be two DUO tokens each. This may be temporary, we'll see how Hive prices are in the next week or two.

Today I'm going to go over the results of the highly scientific (poll) entry question about everyone's favorite cheeses. As expected, there were far too many to showcase each, but I'll share those most commonly chosen or ones I found interesting. Absolutely no method to the madness today!

Cheddar

The overall favorite came out to be cheddar, including all varieties. I personally love extra sharp cheddar that is also extra aged, wow, so yummy! I figured this would be the winner. And just an interesting fact about cheddar cheese, it's not actually orange, it's white. The orange is just a colorant added so people will recognize it more easily.

Hard White Cheese (Queso Blanco Duro)

This cheese is very popular in northern South America, especially in Venezuela. I have tried it myself when I have visited Caracas, it tastes awesome. Sadly, it's been a very long time since I've been able to safely travel to Venezuela. It's a shame, Caracas was such a beautiful place in the mid 1990's! Now for the expensive cheese! Prices have really gone up on this wonderful tasting cheese from Italy. @silverd510 shared that he buys a quarter wheel, portions it out, and freezes cheese for later use. Goat Cheese

In my opinion this is one of the most underappreciated cheeses out there. It really tastes tangy and great, if you haven't tried it, give it a shot. It really is good in my opinion. Thanks for choosing this awesome cheese @florakese @monkmasters and @olaf.gui .

Blue Cheese

Now for my favorite cheese of them all, blue cheese. There are several varieties produced but I love them all! Whenever I can find a good deal I buy it, but it also has become expensive the last few years. There is a place in Oregon here in the United States that makes a really good one, I can't recall the name at the moment. This is a very strong flavored cheese used in salad dressing commonly, but I prefer mine straight! Thanks to @sylmarill for choosing Gorgonzola!

Gouda

Another wonderful cheese, especially when it's smoked well and extra aged... So good! Made from cows milk it has it's origins in the Netherlands, but now is found pretty much around the world. I love the stuff, but then again I have yet to meet a cheese that I don't like! Thanks to @deeanndmathews and @helicreamarket for this great choice!

And speaking of the Netherlands I would be remiss to not include Old Amsterdam. It's a creamy soft cheese with little crystals from aging, really good stuff. It's gotten expensive here and a little hard to find at times, but it's worth the price! Thanks @ravenmus1c for this recommendation!

It's weird, some people hate pineapple on pizza, I don't mind it anymore. When I was younger I didn't, but I like to add some jalapenos to it to make it sweet and spicy!

Where I live you can find "4 cheeses pizza". I'm not sure what kinds of cheese they add to it but they use 4 different kinds of cheese for it.

Pineapple is a hard one to get used to. I don't mind it if there are jalapenos to make it kind of a sweet heat, then it's actually pretty good. Not my first choice on pizza either!

Ok this is a very tricky question, and I’m sure that reading all the responses next week is going to make me cringe. I came from a very traditional old school Italian family. So things like pineapple on it, is not pizza.
My uncle made his own everything, dough, sauce, fresh mozzarella, sausage, pepperoni. He made a brick oven in his backyard in Bayonne. Pizza was an every Friday thing. Sunday was focaccia with his homemade pasta and Sunday sauce.
His traditional pie was fresh mozzarella, sausage and pepperoni. So that’s my choice.

He sure did. At some point I’m going to build one. His is still there but his only daughter doesn’t use it. He passed away ten years ago on April 1st.

I would actually be ok with 6 more weeks of winter! It seems like spring already (at least here). I enjoy this warmer weather, but it just seems wrong to have it already when it's only the beginning of Feb.

All those cheeses look great! It's not easy to get good cheese here. Favorite pizza topping... hmm... veggies I suppose. Black olives always belong on pizza. Mushrooms are a good choice too. Dare I say anchovies?

I love black olives and mushrooms, they both are great on pizza. Some people love anchovies, I'm sadly not one of them. I've tried over and over, but I haven't learn to like them yet!

The answer is a little difficult for me, because I like several that I always order it on my pizza, although I have more than a year that I do not eat pizza, because going to eat pizza is too expensive for my budget.

I love pizza with ham, bacon and pesto sauce, that's definitely how I like it and the last time I ate it was with those three favorite pizza toppings.

My favorite pizza topping is Prosciutto.

The beauty of the Italian Pizzas is the focus on quality products in perfect harmony. We make some pizzas ourselves every few weeks (great activity with the kids) but somehow I feel the pizza is always to heavily topped.

There used to be a place that would make pizza on sourdough crust (made daily) with Prosciutto, capers, olives, and artichoke. It was an amazing pizza, they aren't in business anymore sadly. Making it at home really is the best way to get the pizza you really want!
