Reflecting on life, laughter and light

A busy house

Join me my friend.

Join me.

Just two things are necessary.

Firstly, put the kettle on for tea.

Now, stick this playlist on in the background.

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3x6xRt9FnSbfPbgiO6incZ?si=VVujw2cdSZ6D2NY15Rs41g&pi=j9p_EhpzTl-hA

Don't have Spotify?

Ok here's the first tune to give you a feel for my Sunday morning vibes.

Ok I searched and to no avail... so hopefully the Spotify link works??

Second on the list is the Irish staple. The thing we do when a soul is born. The thing we do when a soul departs. The thing we do when two souls wed. The thing we do in the morning. The thing we do in the evening. What could it be????

Tea.

Glorious Tea!

Now pour a cup of scald, sit back and join me for a chat.

Life might be busy?

But remember life is fleeting.

Here today.

Gone tomorrow.

So do remember to smell the roses.

 "20250511_065314.jpg"

Being grateful

Smell the roses eh?

That's exactly what I did this morning.

Even though I was up late drinking some vino Tinto with neighbours and friends to celebrate my son's communion, my body's alarm clock woke me at 6am, as it so often does since I gave up 95% of added sugars in my life. My energy levels are so high without sugar. It's like a paradox, but it's true.

 "20250511_071713.jpg"

The first thing I did this morning was connect to the earth. I walked barefoot on the wet cold grass and it felt good.

20250511_065358.jpg

I then sat.

I sat with tea.

I sat with nature.

I sat with contemplation.

I sat with the busy bees.

Not busy.

Quite.

Pondering.

Let there be light

Recently with the 6am wake up, I've been productive. Gates were painted. Roofs were cleaned. Gutters were cleaned. Fibre cables were run to my garage.

 "20250404_100738.jpg"

 "20250404_175302.jpg"

 "Screenshot_20250511_075022_Gallery.jpg"

 "Screenshot_20250511_075031_Gallery.jpg"

This was all good.

Us Irish are funny when it comes to communions. We like to have the place perfect. It's a big day. It's an important day. I may not go to mass as often as I once did, but I am still catholic. I know there is something greater than us that set us on the course to be what we are today.

The singularity?

The big bang?

Give me a break.

Every atom in every galaxy.

Bear in mind there are more galaxies than grains of sand on earth.

Get your head around that one.

Our own galaxy the milky way has over 100,000,000,000 stars.

The sun is the closest one to us.

The singularity and big bang says that all the galaxies (as many as grains on sand on earth!) were all condensed into a single pinprick sized point of infinite size and density and exploded into existence.

Bullshit!

I don't buy that I'm afraid.

For me the existence of some God or higher being or higher form of energy or resonance exists.

Otherwise where did the point come from?

Also the concept that everything could have fit into this impossibly small and impossibly dense point is not plausible to my analytical brain.

What then?

String theory?

Simulation theory?

The multiverse?

Black hole emissions?

I don't know, but I know that there is something about light that intrigues me. My job uses it, it's central to the symbolism of catholicism and is what feeds us via photosynthesis.

On the work front, my job uses light via something called Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) Yes I'm an engineer... If your reading this you have just used DWDM for this message to travel from Ireland's West coast to USA, Australia, Africa, Canada, wherever. My ASCII keyed text was converted into 1s and 0s and my switch sent it to a router in a data centre in Galway. That data centre sent it to Dublin via fibre and then some magic happened. The 1s and 0s are converted into light. Light on is a 1. Light off is a 0 in the simplest form I can explain easily. From here it travelled under seas and oceans as light. Remember light can travel pretty fast. 8 times around the world in 1 second!

That light is split by prisms just like in the front of iconic Dark Side of The Moon album below. That means on one single fibre which is thiner than a hair on your head, we can utilise 88 separate wavelengths and send information on every one.

On your side more DWDM kit converts the 88 wavelengths of light into a single beam and turns it back into 1s and 0s, a binary language that our computers and phones talk in. The router in a major city then sends it to your local data centre or base station, then to your modem or phone and again the backlight on your phone allows you to read it.

There it is again.

Light.

It's light for me which is the most important of things and somehow it's central to where we ultimately came from. I just need to figure out why exactly!

Remember to play

Ok sorry for going full geek.

Hopefully I didn't lose too many of you!

We can learn a lot from children.

What do they like to do more than anything?

Play.

They like to play!

We forget as we get older. We don't let ourselves play anymore.

Too busy.

Too serious.

Not enough time.

You've got to make time. Yesterday the kids played around us, as we ate and drank at the back of my house in the glorious May sunshine.

Screenshot_20250511_082931_Gallery.jpg

The adults played too. Through music, stories and laughter and there was a great energy and enthusiasm about.

Screenshot_20250511_082847_Gallery.jpg

We should all remember to play.

To be honest I don't often share photos of my children online without their consent and for me they are still too young to understand, so I rarely show their faces, but the sheer joy and enthusiasm here had to be shown ❤️

This little one loves to play too and every morning I throw this toy around the garden for her. Her tail wags and my wrinkles show as a smile covers my face. The simple things in life folks.

Taggy McTagerson

Sorry.

Yes that's me, Taggy McTagerson.

Maybe you don't like that? If so, accept my apologies, I just wanted to make sure this one was read by a few people, as sometimes our posts can disappear into the ether, and I put some time and thought into this one.

So, I decided to tag a few of ye, as otherwise you may never read my ramblings and it would actually be nice to hear others perspective on life, light, laughter and everything in between on this beautiful Sunday morning.

So if you're tagged, its because I like you and the interactions we've had here before. Apologies if I forgot you and sorry again for the blanket tags!

A good day then? 😀😀

You know, I had always wondered about optic fibre. I kept thinking, how does that cable manage to carry so much info. And you have explained it! Top notch.

We have been celebrating the wow glorious weather too. Get in!

Yep, absolute cracker of a day man. The sun was shining, everyone was wearing a smile and good food and drink was flowing freely.

Glad to help you get a full understanding of the fibre optics 👌

It's interesting stuff and always changing with new tech, so I never get bored.

I never read your ramblings, but since you tagged me and you like me, I've made an exception in this case. You lost me at the Dense Wavelength Division but nobody believes that big bang bull and you certainly get the prize for cutest picture of the week...no, not your kids...those gorgeous little cygnets.

Grounding feels good, the barefoot on the grass thing and I do it often. It sort of feeling the Earth's energy flows into me. An enjoyable thing indeed. I'm a nature guy and as long as I'm somewhere within it I feel better.

As for life...I believe in the design and create ethos where I understand what is (truly) important and then design and create life around that, to enjoy more of it and to ensure the future is enjoyable and meaningful. I'm all about a simple life, although it often is complicated...that's what keeps me focused on the truly important things like good relationships, ownership and responsibility for my own (and partner's) life, to be humble and find enjoyment, happiness and an overall meaningful life.

That's just me though, others dobut differently.

You have it well sossed man and I can always tell from your posts that you are in a good place in the most important place of all, your head space.

It sort of feeling the Earth's energy flows into me

Ya that's it exactly. It just feels good and you feel good after. It doesn't take long, but ot keeps you present and aware I find.

important things like good relationships, ownership and responsibility for my own (and partner's) life, to be humble and find enjoyment, happiness and an overall meaningful life.

100% This is a great and fulfilling way to live your life and I find you have to have some mileage on the clock to get this perspective. Wisdom definitely comes with age. I think mid to late thirties is when it all starts making sense. Things that might have bothered me in my twenties, I couldn't give a twopenny shite about now! It's pretty freeing actually realising the best of life has been staring you in the face all along!

I'm a bit older than you but it's great to see you're thinking in similar ways; it can take some time as you say but once found it's a good headspace and life opens up in many ways and the past closes up to some degree also.

Like most, I have my problems but I'm ok in my head mostly, it's an attitude, and that means things seem to work out externally.

Ya we all have problems here and there and it's not always straight forward to deal with, but if you're in a good head space generally you deal with things efficiently and sensibly and don't catastrophe as some people do.

Keep her lit brother 🔥

What a great post to start a Sunday morning, life, family, nature and food, and a great choice of playlist, French lounge is one of my favourite background music.

My first job after I graduated was laying submarine cables, well not physically, but working with other carriers on the commercial side of it. Prior to that, it never occured to me that there are physical cables undersea that connects the whole world up, and we still have it today. No matter how virtual we are, the physical connections still ties everything together.

No way. I'd never have known you were involved in the same industry as me. Are you doing something completely different now or what?

Ya French lounge is perfect background music, I had it on yesterday too when we were all chilling outside. Then my brother in law treated us to a few tunes of his own which was mighty altogether 👌

I was with BT for pretty much my whole working life. Moved within the company a bit including to and from Hong Kong and finally ended up doing finance on the bids for outsourcing contracts. Sounds like a lifetime ago now.

Sounds like you had a great day :) I love that you take time to play, have fun, share laughter with your family and the little one, enjoy nature, and good food. These simple things make our souls more alive, yet sometimes, we set them aside because we are busy.

Seeing the green grass made me want to run outside barefoot and bathe in the rain, except it's already dark here, so maybe tomorrow (procrastinating, lol)😁

Lovely pictures, by the way, and thank you for the tag. Feel free to do it again next time😉

Ya it was a really good day with family and neighbours. It's always nice having family and friends around to break bread. It helps to build those important connections that life is all about.

Yes, wait till tomorrow or you may well get some funny looks!! 🤣🤣

I love that you take time to play, have fun, share laughter with your family and the little one, enjoy nature, and good food.

It's something I have to work on on an ongoing basis and remember that being busy is not an excuse. Life is for living. We sometimes lose sight of that I feel.

I'm not positive if a communion is something you say congrats about, but it feels like it is... So, congrats to your son on his spiritual commitment! It sounds like it brought a lot of tasks that needed done to the forefront and lots of joy to those around, love that! 💚

Life has been throwing me a lot of curveballs the last few years and recently I had to make several of the hardest choices I think I've ever made. It left me grumpy; feeling as if the world somehow owed me more. Aren't I good? Don't I try so hard to do the right things? Surely I'm owed more. PSH. This type of thinking is a trap, one that pulls you in deeper the more you let it... and so I switch my brain waves to gratitude.

I have the ability to make a cup of coffee anytime I want. I'm warm and have enough clothes to not need to do wash every week if I don't want to. I have two wonderful children who provide me with endless surprises and wonder. I have an oven to bake bread and can afford the mostly veggie diet that I prefer. I live in a functional society where we enjoy peace and quiet. I have the love of an incredible man.

When I look at all that, what else more do I feel I'm owed? Well, a thing or two I'm focused on gaining on my own two feet, but there is nothing else I could ask the universe or God for than a chance to pursue those things. It's the small stuff for sure, being grateful for all the things we do have. I think it becomes a tonic for the soul if we let it.

I appreciated that you thought to tag me here, it was a wonderful read! Where you live is gorgeous, what a stunning land to enjoy a cup of tea with bare feet in the grass! Cheers to you 😄

Pretty wild about the fiber optic stuff! Unreal how we developed the technology to do that and still be able to use it lol.

Dope life musings here man. First communion is a wonderful time! I remember trying to figure out how to fit it in with the stuff going on but I’m glad we did. As you Irish, so are we not so much attending church but we are catholic.

Thanks for blurring out the photos of the kids and your family! I think people share too much and too loosely the things they put on here. Gotta give the kids a little bit of privacy in their lives!

Dope life musings here man.

Thanks man, just top of the head stuff that came to mind after waking up early and sitting in my garden pondering!

Thanks for blurring out the photos of the kids and your family!

Ya I think we've got to do that until they are old enough to decide for themselves

Gotta give the kids a little bit of privacy in their lives!

Ya thats it exactly man

Pretty wild about the fiber optic stuff!

Pretty cool eh, technology can be amazing at times
