Why a Second Thought is Very Important

Look at this meme, I bet it amused you or made you feel sorry for the cat or both. Where the meme was posted a lot of people were expressing sadness or amusement and all that.

When i first saw it too, I found it amusing and sad at the same time. "Poor cat", I thought. But then before I could scroll past, it hit me like hold up! Cats don't give two fucks about plates and stuff. These guys are not humans, they eat stuff from the ground, they bite rats, birds, and other dirty animals, so I took the meme and captioned it thus:

Do you get it now? Has it hit you too?

The milk spilling, that is the milk leaving the plate can't be anything to a cat. The cat would simply lick it off the table or wherever it falls to. Hygiene ain't nothing much to a cat, so the concept of milk spilling does not apply to a cat.

So what's in that meme is clearly not a cat sad because milk spilled. There are probably a million reasons why it looks sad, most likely the sudden spillage must've taken it unawares especially as it seems some of it splashed on it's face. That's all.

But this pic can pass for a cat sad due to spillage, and a lot of people would look at the meme and it would add up in their heads and they'll react, except and until they give it a second thought.

That's how important a second thought is. In our everyday life consuming content and coming across stuff, this is how the true picture can elude us until we give it a second thought. The craziest thing is that even very simple and clear truths like this can elude us due to how they're packaged.

Further craziness is that if you're not in the right frame of mind or mood you wouldn't see past the packaging, you wouldn't know to give things a second thought. We should try to always give things a second thought but giving a second thought is usually something one doesn't decide to do, nor is it something one can try to do always, it is usually something that just hits you when you're in the right frame of mind.

So, try as we may, we might just be dependent on the mood to uncover tricky little things like these. But then again, we should try to give the things that matter a second thought all the time.

My first impression of the meme was the cat hasn't matured yet that's why it looks upset by spilled milk. It's a baby cat :)

I think it's only through having a second thought that we can really uncover the veil of appearances, especially in this superficial age of social media. Subtle tricks like theses compounded over time will have us believing in false truths and make decisions based on that.
