Haha on the plastic chair.

I did that when I moved into my first apartment as the previous tenant left nothing. They even took the lightbulbs!

I can guarantee that a cheap plastic chair makes absolutely no-one happy with the possible exception of if its the only chair available in a hot, humid waiting room. Then perhaps its acceptable :)

Still thinking about buying only new tech. I certainly understand your point on that. Buying 2nd hand and old tech means you are often getting something "behind the times" and of questionable value. Having said that in Canada I think buying second hand devices can be a better option than in Nigeria. I got a Samsung S20FE for my wife about a year and a half ago. At that time I was able to pick up a mint condition 1yr old phone for about 25% of the price of new ($1200 new, purchased for $300 in Canadian dollars). The seller gave a 6 month warranty and my credit card doubled that to one year -- the same as if purchased new. Even today the S20FE holds up nicely as a device. It links wirelessly to watch movies on the TV. It has Samsung DEX so I can use it with keyboard, mouse, and printer as if it was a computer. Battery holds a good charge, camera takes good pictures, etc.

I think the economics or people buying and trading in perfectly good premium phones after only a year changes the economics of buying used here. Couple that with strong warranties even on second hand units...makes things a little different.

From what I've heard about Nigeria....its very much pay your money and take your chances. In that situation I think you are right. Get something with a pedigree and warranty...save the hassle later.

Thanks for posting.

Exactly. Over here in Nigeria, even when you buy something new with carton and they offer a year warranty, it's best to hope you won't ever have any reason to make use of the warranty. Most of the time, the warranty offered for products are mere marketing strategy. It doesn't really work and a lot of us are not financially built to take legal actions. That's why we all have a "buyer beware" approach to everything we buy.

It makes things even worse for second hand products. Most of the time, second hand gadgets are usually stolen items. You may buy one at a very cheap price in Nigeria, but that can land you in a lot of legal problems on the long run.

There was a time when I enjoyed buying gadgets online, but I can't even risk that anymore. Haha. A lot of transactions done over here are filled with dishonesty. We just hope to, at the very least, get things that are fairly worth the price we paid for it.
