I think you are my junior colleague. I'm always happy to see soneone boldly called herself or himself an experienced teacher.
Most students are fond of lying just because of their little tricks which they felt we teachers are not aware of.
It means the food was the problem. One of my students said she had stomach ache. She was squeezing her body and then I decided to get her some food to eat. After few minutes of downloading the food, she said master, I'm better now

These kids can be so hilarious that you can forget your job description around them. The way they lie at will is alarming and worthy of concern.
