RE: A Chicago Christmas tradition

Love the work put into these displays. All to pull you into the holiday spirit and into the store lol but no blatant displays of what was on sale. And the tradition of the nice restaurants in the grand old department stores. In Minneapolis the regional department store was Daytons. I remember going to their restaurant and having pop overs and wild rice soup for a nice lunch. My wife worked at Macy's in the 2000's when all the consolidation was going on in the department stores. Eventually Macy's owned a lot of the regional chains and rebranded them as Macy's.

I miss the grand old department stores, but Macys is doing an adequate job of keeping the traditions alive! I remember going on a Christmas shopping trip to Minneapolis with some lady friends and of course buying gifts at Daytons. It was the first time a phone call from Mastercard was made to my home asking if an authorised person in MN was making charges to my credit card. 😅
