The Brit List: September 2024
Introduction
I started compiling these lists in December 2020 to continue something @pennsif used to do as I think it helps bring the community together. Since then I have found lots more people to include. @HiveSQL has been really useful for this. I was using beem to generate this post, but that is not in active development and I found HiveSQL could do it much quicker. I use Python for most things. Some of the post is manual as I like to include some commentary and I will keep tweaking it. I am open to suggestions for improvements. I aim to do a fresh list on the first Saturday of each month.
I also rely on the community to let me know of more people to include who may not have obvious account metadata. You can find me in the @teamuksupport Discord to discuss it or drop me a comment.
The #teamuk tag has been used to show you are in the UK and was earning extra votes from a bot, but that has not been active lately. Using the tag may still help me to find you, but please contact me if you think you should be on the list.
The list will include anyone living in the UK as well as Brits who have moved abroad. Inclusion on this list does not mean I recommend people, but I will remove accounts if they are known to be abusing Hive or are falsely reporting their location. I can also remove anyone who asks me to. If you have lost control of your account through phishing or other means then let me know so that I can update your entry. There is the option to be counted without being tagged on these posts if you want that.
The code to produce this post is on Github. People are welcome to use it for their own regional version. I can help you with that if necessary.

What it means
The numbers above are for those who had posted or commented in the previous month. In the lists below I break each region into three lists:
- Active as above.
- Just voting. I will guess that a lot of these use automatic votes, e.g. HiveVote. Previously there were some that appear to have been compromised as they vote for known abusers. Those are now excluded until I hear that they have recovered control.
- Inactive in the last month, but most have done something since Hive started. We can hope to bring them back.
I want to count people rather than accounts as some have several. I can include those in brackets if you want. Let me know if you want me to update your listing. You can be as specific as you like about your location. Otherwise I will use what is on your profile or what I am told or can deduce from your posts.

I have produced similar lists for the following countries. Active numbers are from the last time I ran them. These have used simpler queries than what I use for the UK, so they are likely to miss people. What it needs is for local communities to take up this work. The data and scripts are all on my Github for anyone to make use of. I can do other lists on demand.

Commentary
Well the number of active users went down by one this month despite me adding a few people to the list. It looks like some of the smaller accounts are giving up. This seems inevitable when the $HIVE price goes down. Bigger accounts can still earn something from curation, but then I suspect most of those are not cashing out for now anyway. This is why I keep saying that Hive has to be fun. People will spend hours on the big corporate platforms as they have so much content, a lot of it professionally produced, despite them not paying the average user a cent. I find a lot of fun content on Hive and that keeps me coming back. Amongst the Brits we have @planetauto who make videos about cars. @mcsamm is based in the UK and doing great work with boreholes in Ghana. @slobberchops has his urban exploring posts. He has been trying to get people to come here from FB, but it is not so easy. We need more people coming here to 'consume' content as not all of us will be great creators. Even the consumers can earn through comments and curation. I have said many times that if musicians bring their fans here then both sides can benefit.
I am finding a few accounts who seem to make a single post linking to their company site and never come back. I have included some on the list, but they may not stay active. I have to wonder if someone is setting up accounts for them to boost their SEO (search engine optimisation). Some I have found, but not included this time are:

I do intend to do lists for other countries. I may do Canada next. I want others to take over maintaining those as local knowledge makes it easier. The big one I have avoided is the USA. I really think that needs a group of people to work through big cities and states. It may have the most Hivers, but the location data is not consistent. If people want to tackle that job then I will help where I can.

I guess level is good for August to September, not a lot exciting going on, and the price doesn't help as you say!
We maybe need a bit of a publicity drive to get more people involved. I would expect that a lot are fed up with some of the other platforms. There is nothing else quite like Hive.
That's what I mean so many of the other platforms are just awful!

It seems like THEMARKYMARK is dealing with some personal drama and mental issues, which might be causing them to spam us and others with baby pics, GIFs, and questionable content he's been doing the same for years. The fun doesn't stop there, as this seems to be a recurring theme with multiple online personas. The real question is, do we want to trust these drama-magnets with our hard-earned funds or any significant influence on Hive?

The fun doesn't stop there, as this seems to be a recurring theme with multiple online personas. The real question is, do we want to trust these drama-magnets with our hard-earned funds or any significant influence on Hive?

It seems like THEMARKYMARK is dealing with some personal drama and mental issues, which might be causing them to spam us and others with baby pics, GIFs, and questionable content he's been doing the same for years. The fun doesn't stop there, as this seems to be a recurring theme with multiple online personas. The real question is, do we want to trust these drama-magnets with our hard-earned funds or any significant influence on Hive?
On Hive a significant issue exists with automatic upvotes consistently rewarding the same individuals day in and day out
We want to address the issue of downvoting. It has caused pain to many people, and we want to make sure it doesn't happen again reply to @jacobtothe

For awhile I’ve stopped posting here but feeling more keen again now. I “get” Hive and sometimes just like chipping in with some comments more than writing posts. I’m in that sort of mode right now.

Thanks for maintaining this list Steevc, enjoy hivefest. Hopefully people can come together there with a plan for promoting hive, there are so many good parts to the ecosystem just need a few of the big players to work with rather than against each other.
I don't think there's that much conflict. There may be differences of opinion, but that's natural.
