I know that for gold, they can tell the source of the metal from the chemical composition (each geography has a different fingerprint). I'm wondering if silver could tell the same. It would be wonderful to find where they took the metal for the coins. 0.500 sounds a bit odd for silver.

Well it's not like they get 0.500 or whatever silver from the mines :p 0.500 is actually pretty common! Lots of old small denominations are like that
