Sunday 30 km run | registering for coast marathon
Hey everybody! Today it was the last day of World Port Days, a large event in the Rotterdam harbour area. Making it a fun experience to do an early route through the one of the harbour areas as there were different Dutch Marine Ships on display and some cool cargo vessels!
Like last week, I ran with a friend. Last week we did 23 km together, this week it was 27 km - which again he did very well. I hope he can now let go of his nerves as he definitly can do it :)
I decided to add a few km myself so I could make 30 km today.
While the pace was lower than usually, I noticed I am still becoming more efficient using my energy - as I ran 80% of the run in zone 1. With the 3 km I ran myself encounting for most of the zone 2 time.
The highlights of the route where the Erasmusbridge - which marks the start and roughly halftime of the April Marathon Rotterdam.
And… the cyclist tunnel below the Maas (River). This is because they have 2 escalators 17 m and steep , that people can use to put their bike on - the steps are uncomfortable high and the escalator is very very slow. Therefore you just run down and run up in a short but intense interval, good fun!
I think about half of my run today covered city area, the other half of the run was with more green so definitly relaxing.
Coast Marathon Nationaal Park de Hollandse Duinen
My next marathon season is getting some shape! In November I will be running a smaller city marathon. But today I registered for the second edition of a winter edition of a beach marathon. So far, the first edition last year was one of the most beautiful runs I ever did! So as soon as the register was open I got myself a spot!

Happy running!

You say like this: "I'll be right back, I'm going to run for a while." AND BOOM! 30 KILOMETERS 🤣🤣🤣 . YOU'RE A CRACK!
Looks like an enjoyable run, nice mix of city and greenery. I know it's done in many places, but it's weird to imagine a tunnel under a river.
Have you been doing any boxing lately?
Hey man! Boxing has been a little on the background recently! Noticed I could not dedicate the time required to really keep up with the pro fighters at my club, but also I am too competitive to settle for recreational boxing. Whereas 6-8 hours a week sets me up for multiple marathons a year, my 12-14h with boxing was not enough and was frowned upon as cutting corners from the teams perspective. But .. i definitely miss it aswell.
How are you doing?
That is understandable. Even 12-14h is a lot of time to dedicate. 6-8 hrs with the running is much more reasonable.
I'm doing well. Recently started playing pickleball with people at the gym. So we do a workout class or two in the evening (HIIT and cycling), then play some pickleball together. It's been fun.
Glad you are doing well man!
I had to look up what pickleball is, seems a like a lot of fun especially with good company!
Thanks!
Yes, pickleball is fun and allows people of all ages and skill level to participate. It's becoming quite popular in the US the past several years. Not sure about the rest of the world. Take care, looking forward to your next post!
