Recovery run | taper week 2 | NN Marathon Rotterdam
Hi all, welcome back to my running blog! Here I keep you up to date with my progress towards the NN Marathon Rotterdam 2025. In this edition I hope to break my marathon pr of 3h 22m.
I noticed with myself the same nerves right now as I had with my first marathon (9.5 years ago) - which is odd as I have run many other marathon after that with my last being just 7 weeks ago. It might have something to do with me wanting to get revenge on last years Rotterdam Marathon (2024) where I hurt myself and bonked at 33km and finished 20 min later than my goal time. Nevertheless the tension is there and hopefully it will bring the best out of me :)
I am following an adaption of the pfitzinger marathon training schedule. My adaption is basically that I replaced resting days with low intensity recovery days (a few extra miles) and replace interval runs with tempo runs (due to the stress on my knees from interval).
Today I did had a resting days with scheduled. While resting is very welcome - my run tomorrow is another easy one (11 km recovery with a few 100m strides) therefore I changed resting with an easy 5 km. Just to keep occupied and add a few more miles without impacting my trainingsload too much.
My run today was a recovery run - which means you don’t bother the speed, but focus on staying below a certain heartbeat / minutes. In my case I needed to stay below 140 for recovery but aimed to stay below 135 bpm.
The run was fun, beautiful weather and hardly anyone around so a great mini break from work.
Happy running!
Its getting close! Are you getting nervous or are you focused on having as good training sessions as you can before the race?
I feel I am getting nervous about my pace.
4:45 is sufficient to break my pr - but with my last year trainingsload that is high zone 2. So i am mostly considering to aim higher (4:35?) which should also be doable or to play it safe. Haha

Sometimes we just need to run smoothly and enjoy the scenery, that's also trained.
