Amazing sunday morning run!

Hi all! Welcome to my running blog!

Yesterday evening I received a text of a friend that asked if I could help him to cover a half marathon distance goal today - he told me he got to 17km a few times but had some difficulties to try for the 21km goal. This friend ran the Rotterdam 2024 (full) marathon - but was plagued with injuries ever since. Since this year he has been back on the track and is eying the Coast Marathon in februari (which I will also attent!).

I was very happy to be able to run with him today, regardless of the pace you run, if you run consistantly you benefit from all runs.

As I knew I would go for a lower intensity today, so my morning routine was a little lighter compared to more heavy runs. Waking up at 06;00, I decided to postpone breakfast until after the run. Enjoying a coffee and preparing my camel bag with 1l water with extra electrolytes.

I picked a route of exactly 21.1 km that would get us to cover the iconic bridges in Rotterdam and would bring us back to his place.

Going to the city center is perfect as long as you go early! Mostly because of the traffic (and the polution), running early allows you to just ignore the traffic lights (as nobody is there!) but it also gives you the joy of seeing the city awake (including the creatures of the night)

Running together was just fun, talking about the holidays but also about the school for our kids that was about to start tomorrow again!

The roads were all paved roads so that was a smooth run! What I found really cool was that my friend was not only achieving his goal with ease - but he wanted to add a little loop to the run and make it 23km!

For me a fun run with good company is just a perfect start of the day!

Happy running!

I prefer running in the countryside away from people and urban areas, but I agree, there is something special about running through the city early in the morning before most people have woken up!

Was great to see that you could help your friend through the mental block, and complete the half-marathon distance :-)

Fully agree! Running in the countryside is the best!

It was amazing! Like you said this was soley a mental block, he remained relaxed and in good form the entire run. Glad to see him so proud of himself!
