The Rip (2026) was good!

First I saw this movie was available on Netflix without hearing anything about it before the very moment I saw it on Netflix for the first time. I was surprised that legends like Ben Affleck and Matt Damon made a movie together and I didn't hear about it weeks before it was released.

I concluded it probably didn't have a lot of promotion until it's release.

Then I went on Google to look at the details about the movie, and this was all I saw:

That didn't look interesting at all. I thought it was too much of a simple story, police officers find a loot and go through hell trying to protect it orove it and stuff. I didn't see any room for a lot of great dialogues and acting that these guys are among the best in the world for.

Then again Affleck and Damon are now old so I didn't expect to be impressed by the action in the movie. But then I knew it was also possible for some twists and turns to still make it a great movie. Yet I simply decided not to watch at the moment but keep it for later.

But then I kept coming across social media posts from my friends saying it was a great movie and these praises immediately made me feel my suspicion that the movie probably has some remarkable subplots, twists and turns was right, so I ran off to watch it after the first few posts praising it.

It Turned Out to be So Good!

I liked the twists, poignancy, and the various sub plots used to spice up that major plot above, because that was the major assignment given that simple main plot above. The major assignment was to have additional great sub plots and events that would make the simple major plot a lot more worth it. And they delivered on this assignment.

But I'm too much of a thinker, especially as I am a story writer too. The biggest twist was that the lead detective (Damon) was playing everybody all along and acting like a dirty cop when he was not a dirty cop, to get to the root and expose some dirty cops. Just halfway into the finding of the loot I already knew it had to be Damon was playing everyone.

And soon enough it turned out that was the great twist. That kinda made me not to appreciate the movie that much, my damn brain just wouldn't stop connecting dots and uncovering stuffs so much.

I still enjoyed what I could from the movie, though, and still recognized it was a great story, and the acting from Affleck and Damon was such a treat. There were some poignant deep scenes that made it worthwhile legends were in charge.

Go watch it if you haven't, but I hope those who haven't watched it but would love to don't come across this post cos that's big ass spoiler I've just dropped above. 😅
