My Recent Cryptocurrency Recovery Tale (I Recovered BTC from All the Way from 2017!)

We've all probably heard stories about how people lost their cryptocurrencies. Sometimes through greed, loss of devices, forgotten passwords, and other painful little mistakes like these.

Over the years I've come across so many stories of loss like these, and I this was my only story of loss, but it wasn't a full loss as there was still a chance. And just yesterday I was able to turn it to a story of recovery! I'm so happy!

In December 2017, I sent 0.0326 BTC to some exchange called Luno, so I could withdraw it as cash for the December fun 🥲.

BTC was about $17000+ by then, so that was about $700+.

I didn't have a good ID card to register on this exchange. I was 19 at the time. This exchange had a small limit for those without ID verification and I had already reached the limit.

So I made a female friend of mine create an account. For some reason I couldn't use her phone number, so I used that of another friend, since I had already used mine for my maxed out account.

I withdrew the maximum amount I could without her ID card and 0.029+ BTC was left there. I decided she would upload her ID documents later on and we would get the money out.

We never did that.

Years passed by and after all the procrastination and everything, I just decided to do it this month! 7 whole years have gone by 🥲.

But going to do it wasn't that easy. I couldn't remember the password. I couldn't remember the phone number I got from that friend of mine.

If you click on forget password you needed to verify with your email address and phone number. I only knew and had access to the email address.

I asked that friend of mine and he said he no longer used that phone number, and he doesn't even remember me using his phone number. Lmao.

So there I was, how do I contact Customer Care and tell them all I have is an email address, that I do not remember the password or phone number I used.

But no harm in trying, ya know.

I hit them up. After a little back and forth, they demanded that I upload documents and a selfie holding them, and the number I registered with.

Luckily for me that girl who I got to create the account those many years ago wasn't far away after all these years! I got her to upload the documents and selfie.

I gave them a number I suspected was that friend of mine's, but I told them it might be wrong.

Guys, they accepted the entire application, and I got my crypto back!

After all these years, crypto that was worth about 60$ or so was now worth 173$.

Not mind blowing, but quite impressive.

And so, that's a recovery tale for you. Let it console you, however little, from all the other bad tales of losses due to mistakes that you've heard in your time in the cryptosphere. Lol.
