Making Sense of the Trends of Masculine and Feminine Advices on the Internet

On the Internet there is so much content about how to act like or properly be a man or woman, these niches have been fully filled.

As a man on the Internet, if you spend time on a few of these videos the algorithm would bombard you with them, same applies for a woman. And whether you like it or not you'll get influenced or at least you'll have to fight some of the things these videos are teaching you in your mind.

It's very difficult to come out unscathed, though. Some of these videos teach good lessons so there are some benefits, but these videos also mostly teach bad lessons and mostly advocate for one size fits all solutions. If you're a very reasonable person, though, you'll be able to pick the good stuff and ditch the bad ones.

But "very reasonable person" is the description of a very tiny minority of humans 🤣😅. So safe to say these contents are out there wreaking havoc!

And I've seen it first hand amongst too many people. Just some days ago I posted this meme on my WhatsApp:

And a female friend replied with "men are so selfish, she could have been tired or not in the mood". As if the meme says she has to do it no matter her mood! The meme doesn't even mandate her to do it but just says this is how the kind of appreciative reaction she'll get if she does it. But this friend had to attack it!

Further talking revealed she has been consuming so much content for how women should act and this is what this content does to you, they make you hostile to the opposite gender, and makes you want to find reasons/arguments against their happiness and justifications for their pains and sufferings.

Something similar has happened in a conversation with a guy, we both listened to another friend talk about how an ex girlfriend cheated on him withna rich friend. The guy started saying women are not loyal and women are evil, that he doesn't know what men did to deserve women. And I had to tell him to chill and stop talking about the matter in a way that suggests these are things only women do, that men cheat with unexpected people too so it is definitely not a case of what have men done to deserve women like these, you forget that we do this shit too!

If you've not been consuming these contents, good for you, but a good percentage of people are consuming them and turning into varying degrees of haters of the opposite gender. Putting up walls, being very judgemental, always ready to attack or view from a skewed lens.

So far I have come up with common advices I give to people I meet who are carried away by these contents.

• Realize you are being influenced and riled up. Always remember to calm down and think things through more level headedly.

• No gender is innocent: your gender has a list of sins they commit and the other gender a list too. Since everyone has a list, we're all guilty so stop looking at things like you and your gender are on a high horse judging the opposite gender. We're all sinners, we just sin differently.

• Don't forget on every side there are good people who don't deserve to pay the price for the actions of other members of their gender. There are many good women who don't deserve to pay the price for the common foolishness of other women, the same way there are many good men too.

• Avoid hasty generalization

• The same way you get pleasure from giving the opposite gender a savage reply when you don't agree with them you should get pleasure from finding one or a situation where you agree with them too. The more friendly/peaceful encounters, the better.
