Imagine I'm Just Finding out About the Original Forever Young Now
I thought the song "Forever Young" by Jay Z and Mr. Hudson was an original song, iit was just yesterday I found out the original was sang by a band called Alphaville in 1984. I went and checked it out on YouTube, and my goodness, if this is not one of the most poignant/penetrating songs I've ever listened to!
Guys, this song had me in a trance-like state and I've repeated it over a hundred times since yesterday.
I wonder why it took me this long to find it. I'm really into music including old music, I was born in 1998 but I'm not one of them youngins who are very ignorant of the 80s and 90s. I know that sampling old songs have been the secret to so many hits, especially hip hop hits.
I know Dido had an original song before Eminem made Stan, the The NOTORIOUS BIG sampled a song tobmake Juicy, etc. But I'd always thought the song "Forever Young" was Jay's. I didn't expect that much melody/depth from Jay Z, but I thought Mr. Hudson who did the chorus was a genius and that he came up with one of the best choruses ever for Jay Z to rap along to.
Now I know.
I'm also just finding out that the song's 40th anniversary was celebrated last year and a snippet of it went viral on TikTok. I'm not on TikTok but I remember hearing that snippet a lot of times and thinking this sounds like Jay's song wasn't original and that I have to check it out. I never checked it out until I saw a video of that snippet again yesterday.
What a lovely discovery it has been for me, this song soothes my soul in such a deep way. Watching the music video even made it more powerful because of the way the vocalist was singing like the music was in control of him. It gave me the feeling this song was a gift from some depth humans rarely reach.
And I'm grateful.

Forever young used to be one of my favourite music then. I used to sing it almost everytime. And I never even thought or imagined that the one sang by Jay z and Mr Hudson wasn't the original
