Finally, My Verdict on My Most Anticipated Series of 2025: Peacemaker (No Spoilers)
Before the release of the Season 2 in August last year I had made this post talking about how it was my most anticipated release of the year. But after it was released and I watched it I gave my verdict on the first episode but I've been putting off giving my 2,000,000,000 cents on the entire season, but not no more.
After watching the Season 1 of Peacemaker back in 2022 I thrilled out of my mind, I loved the series so much and could confidently say it was in my top 3 subjectively best series ever. John Cena is one of my favourite human beings and seeing him finally making worthwhile movies was the bomb to me. Coupled with the fact that it was in the Superhero genre, DC Universe, and was written and directed by one of my favourites of all time too James Gunn. It was just the 💥💥.
Waiting for the next season didn't even really feel like torture because I was in disbelief/denial that a second season of that would really manifest, like am I going to be that lucky that they'll make a second season for me? Like I'll get to see that? How could I be deserving of such a treat? 😂😂.
But the second season came. This was my reaction to the first episode. Then I went on to finish the entire season without coming around to writing about it. Yeah, but not no more.
Did it Meet Up to the Season 1 Standards?
Short answer: No. But it didn't fall far off, though.
Season 1 felt like it was so well structured from start to finish, but 2 didn't quite feel like that.
1 was so funny and had too many killer jokes and funny scenarios, 2 didn't meet up to that.
1 had us immersed in Peacemaker's world, but 2 was trying to make the story way more than just Peacemaker.
1 had a great ending, but 2 seemed like a hurried/abrupt ending.
Lastly it was sad to see John Cena with a slightly forward lean signaling aging and a bad lower back. It makes me worry if he'll be in shape long enough to keep carrying the Peacemaker character.
The Highpoints
Season 2, however, produced two of the greatest episodes in series history. Episode 6 and 7, and IMDB agrees:

9.0 and 9.1 respectively. Even before seeing the ratings I was watching this like "These are about the objectively greatest episodes of series history, my gawd!"
The inclusion of a parallel universe where the Nazi won, and the way the characters were like in the parallel universe was such a pleasant experience. In all the depictions of parallel universes none has been as pleasantly twisted as this one.
This alone is supposed to make the Season 2 better than the Season 1, but it's just the season 1 was better woven together and the season 1 as a whole did a better job than this season 2.
Finally
The deed has been done. It lived up to 8/10 of my expected, it was still a great watch, and I still absolutely love the series, I'm just a little disappointed for the 2/10 missing. But I'm very sure whatever was missing here was just as a result of James Gunn trying to fit the entire DC Universe into the story in someway, that is he is using Peacemaker to lay the foundation for a lot of the things that would be happening in the new DC Universe from now on.
If he wasn't doing that and he focused on only Peacemaker's story like he did in Season 1 I'm sure it would have lived up to mine and other fans' expectations.
Hopefully it would all blend in more properly going forward, I'm still looking forward to more!
