Functions of the Liver:
Filters toxins
Center of metabolism
Stores energy
Produces bile for fat digestion
Regulates blood sugar and cholesterol levels
Red Flags - When Does Your Liver Need Attention?
Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)
Dark (coke-colored) urine
Pain in the right upper abdomen
Swelling of the abdomen
Swelling in the legs
What Your Liver Wants You to Do:
Limit alcohol intake
Eat a balanced diet and avoid late meals
Exercise regularly
Stay well hydrated
Take medications only when necessary
Avoid drug abuse including herbal drugs
Avoid sharing of needles and unhealthy sexual practices
Good News About the Liver:
Even after damage, the liver has a remarkable ability to regenerate and return to its normal size and function!
Bad News About the Liver:
The liver doesn't complain till it's almost finished. It keeps trying to compensate till it finally cannot again, hence, the need to know your liver.
