Consequences of ignoring mental health
Just like our physical health our mental health is also equally important. A lot of people ignore their mental health. Whenever someone has constant difficulty in making decisions, gets easily under stress, feels anxiety, feels sad and lonely most of the time, does not feel motivated, has constant issues of low self esteem, feels depressed, has extreme emotions, all of these are indications of a poor mental health.
When I look at someone who has big accomplishments in life and I feel unworthy of myself looking at that then it means that I do have problems with my mental health. It should be that when I look at someone who has accomplishments I should feel motivated to do the same, that is the sign of a good and healthy mental health. When I feel happy when I see others happy indicates that my mental health is optimal. The way I respond to emotional situations in life clearly indicates the level of my mental health.
Mental health is not visible but it's effect have direct consequences on the quality of life. It will lead to strained relationships, low career growth, unhappy with self and others, all leading to a unhappy life. With constant mental health issues some people can get so withdrawn from their surroundings that they actually confine themself.
One of my friend, lost his job in Covid and after that for 3 years he did not get a job. I saw his gradual decline mentally. In the initial stages he was ok, but with time he started feeling so unworthy of himself that he started withdrawing from everyone around him. He remained indoors most of the time, stopped talking to people. All he would do was eat and sleep, and with that he started gaining lot of weight. It was really a worrisome situation, because his mental low self-esteem had started impacting his physical health. Thankfully he got a job after 3 years and that again brought him back to life. But those 3 years his downfall was so visible mentally which eventually turned into physical.
Mental health is a build up that happens every day, and it's just not about feeling good on one day and not on another. Of course there will be few days when you may feel low on life and that's ok, but when it happens frequently then it needs to be addressed. It's an investment that one can make on themselves for a better healthy future. All the big problems of health starts with initial mental health issues like stress and depression. Majority of the autoimmune conditions are a result of poor mental health to start with.
If one feels any negative patterns constantly then that is a sign and it should be taken care of right at the beginning. One must understand that all through out our life we will be going through some or the other challenge and it's never going to be smooth, so taking the impact on mental health is not the wisest thing to do.
