Why Drinking is Not Cool.

To be clear, I’m not talking about water, rather a more intoxicating thousands years old cultural parasite that gives us temporary relief from our daily struggles but then fucks up our bodies and relationships.

It’s the damn alcohol. The chemical in itself isn’t the horrendous thing, in fact it is used in many industries as fuel for machinery, component of other drugs and comestics, a hygienic substance BUT as we all like to put various shit in our mouths, centuries perhaps thousands of years ago, humanity decided to ingest the thing, getting not only a sense of confidence, relaxation but sometimes even prophetic visions, little did our grandpas know that this was only their body reacting to the toxicity of the drink, trying to expel it, a process which seems divine sometimes and horrendous in other times, but after you experience the good, the bad parts are forgettable each time. “It’s only this time, I will never drink again!” and then all humanity got addicted until now. In some periods of time, precisely in Europe that I know, alcohol was used instead of water to prevent death from dirty water since there was no water treatment, but we are in the future and with no excuses.

So, I’m here to tell you how uncool this is. Listen, I myself drank a lot so I talk from experience. Anyway the controversial list:

  • It’s leaves a bad taste in the mouth, you only like it cause your mouth can’t feel anymore after the first gulps.
  • You still smell like shit after a full night’s drink even after bathing and brushing teeth, it’s the air that comes rotten from your mouth.
  • You want to use this to cope with everything, then feel bad when doing something bad while intoxicated, than drink again to take out the bad feeling, it’s never ending cycle. Horrible for your wallet.
  • People might call you out for a booze but actually look down on you if it’s too frequently, and the thing is addictive, if you make it either a social activity or a coping mechanism, it will become frequent.
  • Alcohol makes you do stupid things. This drink literally lowers the part of the brain that works towards decision making. In summary, you have less control, your memory gets fuzzy, it’s almost like only being in the present moment but in a way you probably won’t remember and will be more impulsive. Imagine calling your ex while on a happy evening right? Or perhaps beating your kids and wife? Not cool.
  • Depression and anxiety comes, mostly cause the body is addicted, everytime you sober up, the body craves drinking again due to it’s side effects. This makes you sad, irritable, nauseous, hot and anxious.
  • Your tolerance rises everytime you drink, like a trained muscle that can deal with more weights, you will need to drink more to feel the numb. This leads to more money spending, more people being ashamed or impressed by you, and if you’re not careful, passing out or a comma state, or death by intoxication, cirrosis, or even an acident involving you and or someone else in your altered state.
  • It makes you feel good for a moment then the effect goes off and you are left feeling deceived. Sometimes it even has no more effect on you, either due to growing up, doing therapy, or just accepting reality as It is. When at this point, the hole point of alcoholic drinks seems useless and a waste of time. Like you can still hang out and enjoy talking, dancing, walking or time on your own without the crippling feeling of despair after the booze lost it’s effect.

I could continue forever but this is enough, we all know the social and personal problems generated by drinking as habit. So I hope this can motivate you to stop, or if you have stopped, to continue on your journey, all media and people have marketed drinking as something great and satisfying, that there’s no way to live without it, but the truth is, you are never satisfied. - don’t be dragged.
