Spent a lot of time yesterday figuring out how to run Windows with zero latency under Linux using QEMU/KVM, and I'm super stoked about it.
When it's completed, I will be able to simply click a shortcut on my Linux desktop called "Windows 11" which will then boot up a virtualized windows desktop that is running on its own dedicated SSD. My powerful GPU will then get passed through to the virtual Windows install, giving it full access to it with zero overhead.
When the virtual Windows is shut down, the GPU will automatically be released back to my Linux desktop on the host system.
I will be able to run Windows both as a window inside my Linux desktop and in fullscreen #techtips #linux #virtualization
The other way around can't be assured =)
Virtualization on Linux is the only future... even Microsoft understands that now... and its changing their kernel for adoption on that trend.
Next most used OS-type, will be (by users) Linux... 100% sure! When? maybe by the time Quatum reaches masses... in 2032
Really, I didn't know that MS was doing that. But yeah for sure. Can't trust MS, can't trust Apple. Better to run their stuff in sandboxed environments as long as we need to use software that only works on there.
I have my doubts about Linux for the masses. Most users just want it to work, they don't want the hassle of getting things set up. But one can dream
Well, ubuntu is pretty much self rideable. If one uses the GUI...
And it just works...
The only bit that still needs quite a bit of dev is what attracts masses, like games. Once games get supported on Linux as much as they get on Windows... then its when the Windows we know dies (but by then it might be already be closer to Linux than we think, just with the sort of the same "Windows" visuals, likely).
