Nice! Almost 2.2 more LSTR with the SURGE payout and lstr.voter yield. Let's see....when LEO hits $3, LPS will probably be around 40, so LSTR should be trading at around $120. That means this week's payout is worth about $144. Gotta like that!
Sweet payout! I’m cautious about pinning exact price targets like $120 for LSTR, though. Market sentiment can shift fast, and external factors play a big role. Still, the yield and growth potential look promising based on current trends
The other thing I don't think people realize is just how scarce LSTR actually is. LEO has 30M tokens. LSTR has 100,000. At this point, there's not a ton of utility for LSTR, but with the speed at which they are moving, I expect there will be down the road. Maybe owning LSTR unlocks access to new products. Maybe they start paying a dividend. Maybe LSTR is the vehicle they use to do collateralized loans in the early stages. Whatever it is, I fully expect there will be reasons to own it other than just its LEO stake. I'm sure access will be one of the key drivers to why you want to own it.
You would obviously know better than I, but just because it's worth 5M+ LEO, doesn't necessarily give you a reason to own it, especially if that LEO can never be sold. There will need to be another driver in my mind. Like I said, if LeoDex continues to explode, maybe they can pay a dividend on it or something. We'll see....

Consider browsers and payment processes. Today, when in need of "something," a browser is used to search, visiting a site, adding items to a cart, and entering payment information during checkout.
In the future, simply informing an AI of your needs will prompt it to handle comparisons and searches, providing a streamlined summary of results. Users can then select items, while an agent manages the carts and payment process.
It's predicted that AI chatbots will rapidly become the primary gateway to the internet, taking over various existing functions. As a result, browsers and payment services could become relatively obsolete within 2-3 years.

There are really only four basic levels of financial wealth: Poor, Not Poor, Rich, and Mega-Rich. Each incremental leap has significantly deteriorating benefits.
Being Not Poor is dramatically better than being Poor, but being Mega-Rich may actually be worse than being Rich. This has to do with the types of problems at each level and the ability of money to solve them.
Totally get this. Hitting "Rich" solves the core struggles, but "Mega-Rich" often trades one stress for another. I’m focused on building steady wealth for time freedom, not chasing excess. What’s your target level on this scale?
There are a lot of rich people who spend all their time trying to impress even more rich people. It strikes me as one of the dumbest games you can play, but I'm willing to bet very few people realize they're playing it.
Chasing status is a trap. Real wealth comes from building assets, not impressing others. Focus on compounding over decades, not fleeting approval. Most don't see they're playing a losing game until it's too late.

Over the long term, beyond four years, there isn't a permanent peak against the USD since fiat currencies remain available for buyers. Long-term perspectives of over four years suggest a pattern of increasingly higher lows and highs.

The Pacific Theatre in World War I: An Overlooked Front
Although the majority of the global conflict of World War I is often associated with the brutal battles across Europe, a less-publicized but equally significant theater unfolded across the South Pacific. Early in the war, empires clashed in this remote region, reshaping nations and leaving lasting legacies. This article explores the historic events, military campaigns, and geopolitical shifts in the Pacific during the First World War, reflecting on how this distant front contributed to the wider conflict.
In the late 19th century, European powers, alongside Japan and the United States, carved out colonial holdings in the South Pacific, largely motivated by strategic interests and territorial expansion. Germany, in particular, formalized its presence through annexations such as German New Guinea, German Samoa, and various small islands like the Marshalls and Marianas. These islands, though limited in strategic or economic value initially, became part of Germany’s broader imperial ambitions.
At the outbreak of WWI in 1914, Germany's primary regional military force was concentrated at Tsingtao, China—a key naval base housing the German East Asia Squadron commanded by Maximilian von Spee. This squadron was well-known for its aggressive operations in the Pacific, although Germany had little contingency plans for defending its colonial holdings against the Allied powers.
The Allies, mainly Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, quickly moved to occupy German territories in the region. New Zealand's first military action was the occupation of Samoa, where the Samoa Expeditionary Force, totaling 1,400 men, arrived on August 29, 1914. To their surprise, they encountered no resistance as the wireless station there had been rendered inoperable by the Germans beforehand.
This operation marked one of the earliest Allied deployments in the war, but it was not the first occupation of German territory—this honor went to Germany’s Togo colony in Africa, occupied days earlier. Meanwhile, Australia assembled a 2,000-strong force tasked with capturing wireless stations in New Guinea, Nauru, the Caroline Islands, and New Britain. These campaigns led to actual combat beginning on September 11, 1914, where seven Australian soldiers, one German, and thirty indigenous police officers lost their lives during the occupation process.
The occupation of Samoa and New Guinea was accompanied by various complications. In Samoa, colonial administrators like Colonel Robert Logan, known for being autocratic and belligerent, maintained tense relations with native populations and nearby American territories. During the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918, Logan’s refusal of aid from American Samoa resulted in a significant death toll among Samoans, further damaging relations.
Similarly, Australia's administration of New Guinea was marred by disciplinary issues, including looting, drunkenness, and accusations of brutality. The death of Colonel Holmes, who was re-enlisting at the time, exemplified the difficulties faced by occupying forces. Such problems highlighted the often-turbulent nature of colonial governance during wartime.
While troops established control over islands, naval engagements in the Pacific became critical to disrupting German maritime operations. Germany’s East Asia Squadron, under Admiral Maximilian von Spee, initially sought to evade Allied forces by attempting to reach the Atlantic via the tip of South America, ignoring plans to attack Australia or New Zealand.
In September 1914, von Spee’s squadron shelled Tahiti before engaging in the Battle of Coronel off Chile’s coast—an impressive victory that elevated German morale. However, it was short-lived; subsequent defeats, notably the Battle of the Falklands, decimated the squadron.
Remaining elements of von Spee’s fleet, along with German merchant raiders, continued hostilities in the Pacific. Notable among these were the cruisers SMS Emden, Prinz Eitel Friedrich, and Cormoran, which targeted Allied shipping and infrastructure. Despite initial successes, these raiders were gradually neutralized by Allied naval forces by 1915, forcing Germany to switch tactics to commerce raiding using extended-range merchant vessels.
Commerce Raiding and Notable Voyages
German naval ingenuity was exemplified by ships like SMS Wolf and SMS Seeadler. SMS Wolf undertook the longest voyage of a warship during WWI, sinking 14 ships and laying mines, ultimately returning to Germany in 1918 with prisoners and cargo.
Another famous vessel, SMS Seeadler, managed to evade capture after scuttling 16 ships in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Its captain, Felix von Luckner, became a legendary figure, navigating a small boat to Fiji before being captured and interned in New Zealand. Luckner’s daring escapades, including his escape from captivity and subsequent pursuit, added a romantic chapter to the Pacific naval theater.
The occupation of German territories by Australian, New Zealand, and Allied forces persisted well beyond the war's end. Samoa remained under New Zealand mandate until 1962, and New Guinea’s administration by Australia lasted until Papua New Guinea gained independence in 1975. These territorial changes had lasting political and cultural consequences for the local populations.
The Pacific front also contributed significantly to the broader war effort. Troops from the region fought on other fronts, including France and the Middle East. Hundreds of islanders, like Cook Islanders and Niueans, served in the Maori Pioneer Battalion, participating in European conflicts far from their native islands.
The Pacific theater of World War I may have been distant from Europe's trench warfare, but its battles, occupations, and strategic naval engagements played a crucial role in the global conflict. The colonization, warfare, and subsequent geopolitical shifts in the region laid the groundwork for future relations and decolonization processes.
As we reflect on this often-overlooked front, it becomes clear that the war's reach extended far beyond the European continent. The Pacific, with its contested islands, daring naval campaigns, and enduring colonial legacies, exemplifies the truly worldwide scope of the Great War.

The Great War: A Week in the Final Phase of World War I
The Prolonged Eastern Front Quiets After 39 Months of Battle
Since August 1914, the Eastern Front has been a theatre of relentless conflict, characterized by fluctuating frontlines where both sides claimed victory after each engagement. Over these nearly four years, the land saw continuous advancements and retreats, with neither side able to secure a decisive win. Now, at the 39-month mark, the eastern battlefields have fallen silent, marking a significant pause in one of the war's longest-running fronts.
One of the highlights of recent military developments was the British Army's massive deployment of over 300 tanks during the Battle of Cambrai. This event marked the largest tank operation in history up to that point. Initial success was evident as the tanks pushed into German-held lines, but the victory was short-lived. Once more than half of the tanks broke down or were repelled, the offensive stalled. Meanwhile, the Germans and Russians were seeking to halt hostilities altogether.
Alongside the Western Front, British forces continued their campaigns in Palestine and German East Africa. Notably, Stanley Maude, the British commander in Mesopotamia, died during the campaign—representing a significant loss. The subsequent days saw a series of battles in East Africa, culminating in the near-total collapse of German military presence in the region.
The East African Campaign: Battles, Defeats, and German Retreat
On November 25, the German and Portuguese forces clashed in the Battle of Negovan, driven by German supply shortages. General Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck led the German effort to invade Portuguese East Africa to prevent British pursuit and to secure vital supplies. Under Major João Pinto, Portuguese forces faltered against the larger German-led forces and indigenous fighters, suffering heavy losses, including near-annihilation of their units.
Von Lettow-Vorbeck's forces seized supplies, employing them to wage a guerrilla war that could continue for another year. The captured Portuguese soldiers—between 500 and 700—were pressed into service as carriers, transporting captured weapons and ammunition. Von Lettow-Vorbeck destroyed remaining German weapons and uniforms, resorting to Portuguese gear due to ongoing supply issues.
By November 27, the forces under Colonel Thafal surrendered near Nawala, marking the complete withdrawal of German troops from East Africa. This region was now free of German presence, a notable turning point in the colonial front.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Front experienced a significant shift as fighting ceased between Russian and German forces. On November 27, three Russian envoys, blindfolded, crossed German lines near Togovpils, receiving authorization to negotiate a ceasefire. The same day, Bolshevik Foreign Minister Leon Trotsky announced the signing of secret treaties from 1914 to 1917 with the Allies, revealing plans for territorial adjustments: France would gain some German lands in the West, Italy would acquire territories from Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire, and Romania would be compensated with land. Additionally, the Treaty of Sykes-Picot, which outlined the post-war division of the Middle East, was publicly exposed in the British newspaper Manchester Guardian, causing embarrassment among the Allies.
Trotsky condemned the secret diplomacy, criticizing the ruling classes for surreptitious dealings and promoting the revolutionary slogan: "Proletarians of the world, unite!" Confidence in secret agreements waned, and tolerance for neutrality and pacifism diminished. For example, in Bologna, a woman was imprisoned for six months for claiming the Germans were invincible and that the war was Britain’s fault.
The Western Front: Ongoing Battles and Tactical Developments
Back on the Western Front, the Battle of Cambrai persisted through late November and into early December. British forces under the 62nd Division attempted to seize the Boulogne Ridge and the nearby forest with armored support. Initially successful at times, German counterattacks began to push back the British. Tanks, particularly those meant to storm towns like Bandennote-Dam, proved ill-suited for narrow, urban combat, often becoming easy targets for German machine guns. Despite some advances, British soldiers primarily withdrew to construct defensive positions.
On November 30, the Germans launched a rapid attack from the south, aiming to reclaim key positions on the Boulogne Ridge. The German assault, utilizing shock tactics like poison gas, low-flying aircraft, and stormtroopers, initially made significant progress, forcing British Brigadier General Berkeley Vansch to withdraw his command. The fighting intensified into the night, but British tank reinforcements arrived, helping to hold the line. By week’s end, German casualties were high—about 6,000 prisoners and 158 artillery pieces—and the Germans demonstrated the effectiveness of combined arms tactics, including gas, aircraft, and stormtroopers.
In Italy, after the costly Caporetto campaign, Chief of Staff Armando Diaz embarked on a major restructuring of the Italian forces. Moving their frontline along the Piave River reduced the length by about 170 kilometers, allowing better defense with fewer troops—33 divisions at the start, but bolstered with 130,000 French and 110,000 British reinforcements by December.
The Allies intensified supply efforts, ensuring adequate coal and food stocks to sustain the front. Improvements in soldier welfare included increased rations, better pay, and the construction of food stalls near the front lines. Morale-boosting measures also included extending leave from 15 to 25 days, providing free insurance, and delivering death benefits promptly.
However, internal discontent persisted. Many soldiers and civilians were unaware of the war’s true aims and questioned its necessity, leading Diaz to employ propaganda, including newspapers, posters, films, and theatrical performances, to bolster national unity and support. The organization "P Service" coordinated these efforts, striving to instill belief in eventual victory by disseminating humorous guides, soldier-written content, and morale-raising imagery.
Political and Social Unrest in Europe
Across Europe, revolutionary sentiments flared. On November 25 in Budapest, over 100,000 Hungarians protested for peace and supported Bolshevik revolutionaries. Estonia declared independence from Russia on November 28, highlighting the shifting political landscape.
Amidst the turmoil, notable military figures fell. On November 21, Rudolf von Eschewege, a distinguished German ace pilot, was killed during combat in the Macedonian front. Innovative defenses such as gas-filled balloons were used by the Allies to protect ammunition depots from aerial attack, one of which tragically claimed the life of "The Eaglet of the Aegean," a renowned pilot.
This week’s developments painted a complex picture of shifting alliances and strategic priorities. German leaders, notably Chancellor Georg Michaelis, who stepped down in November, and his successor Georg von Hertling, expressed support for Bolshevik peace negotiations—an idea that alarmed the Allies. Emperor Wilhelm II even proposed rapprochement with Russia, and Austria-Hungary welcomed the Bolshevik peace overture.
Despite these signals, the Allied powers managed to maintain their fronts, with German troops of over 50,000 soldiers being redeployed from the Eastern to the Western Front—potentially a turning point for the exhausted Western allies.
Imagine the mental toll faced by soldiers on the Western Front, faced with the deployment of experienced German troops after over three years of relentless fighting. Such a strategic shift foreshadows escalating difficulties for the Allies deeply entrenched in grueling trench warfare. For more in-depth analysis of the Baltic states during WWI, additional resources are available.

Exploring the Italian Dolomites and the German Alpen Corps in World War I
In a captivating journey high above the Italian Dolomites, Indy Neidell and special guest Emmanuel Vocht delve into the gritty realities and strategic significance of this formidable mountain front during World War I. Towering at 8,500 feet (around 2,700 meters), they explore the rugged terrain to shed light on the remarkable military operations that unfolded in one of Europe’s most challenging environments.
Standing atop the Laguz and Becca mountains—referred to in the region as the Trevanounter Valley—the hosts set the scene for their exploration. They highlight the strategic importance of surrounding peaks, such as the over 3,000-meter-high mountain holding German and Austrian positions for months on end. The weather conditions—harsh, unpredictable, with snow and rain—added to the peril faced by soldiers fighting in this environment.
Vocht shares insights from his recent book on the German Alpen Corps, emphasizing the incredible feat of positioning artillery atop the Ortler, nearly 4,000 meters high. This feat underscores the daring and resourcefulness of the troops operating in such unforgiving terrain.
A notable feature visible from their vantage point is an old fort—initially constructed by Austrians in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to defend strategic mountain corridors. Vocht explains that while these forts became outdated with advancements in artillery, some were cleverly manipulated by the Austrians, who left them seemingly intact while disabling their weaponry. This deception led Italian forces into costly attacks on structures that were no longer operational, illustrating the tactical ingenuity employed in the mountain warfare.
The hosts also examine the Queen of the Dolomites—the glacier of Marmolata—highlighting its dramatic landscape and the Italian effort to bomb and destroy certain peaks as part of their strategic operations, notably blowing up the Alana mountain crater with mines in 1915.
The Role of the German Alpen Corps
One of the major revelations of the episode is the organization and deployment of the German Alpen Corps. Vocht clarifies that, unlike their counterparts in other fronts, Germany initially lacked dedicated mountain troops. However, with the fear of Italian offensives and the need for specialized mountain warfare skills, the Germans quickly expanded their mountain troops, establishing snowshoe battalions—initially numbering around four—by 1915.
Despite their late formation, the Alpen Corps—numbering up to 26,000 men and supported by nearly 9,500 horses—became vital in defending the front. They were more of an enforced division rather than an official core, comprising experienced troops from various German units, such as the Prussian and Mecklenburg infantry, who learned the mountain craft through on-the-ground experience rather than formal training.
The Challenges Faced by Troops and the Battle Environment
Vocht details the difficulties encountered by soldiers. Many of these troops had little to no prior mountain warfare training, having to learn on the job amid the treacherous terrain. The Germans, along with their Austrian counterparts, faced logistical nightmares—climbing steep slopes with minimal shelter, enduring temperatures at times dropping below freezing, and battling avalanches and snowstorms.
Historical anecdotes include German soldiers sitting atop 3,000-meter peaks for days with minimal cover, exposed to the elements. The episode features harrowing stories from soldiers like a German Yeager who suffered in the snow for two days without adequate shelter.
Despite the brutal environment, the German Alpen Corps experienced relatively low casualties—only around 350 men—reflecting the limited scope of combat and the strategic caution exercised in the mountain front. There were few major engagements, and the front line often remained static due to the difficulty of maneuvering in such terrain.
Visiting a memorial cemetery, Vocht and Neidell reflect on the somber toll—numbering approximately 300 fallen German soldiers buried in the region. Many of these men had no formal mountain combat training but were thrust into perilous situations, learning as they fought.
The Impact of Potential Italian Attacks and German Strategy
Vocht speculates on what might have happened had Italian General Luigi Cadorna launched a large-scale assault in June 1915. He suggests that the Germans benefited from the limited fighting and the training gained on the job, which allowed their troops to withstand potential early attacks. Had the Italians attacked more aggressively, casualties and losses could have been significantly higher—highlighting the importance of cautious Italian strategies and the German reliance on improvisation and learning through experience.
The episode also touches on the clandestine operations surrounding German troop movements. Until October 1915, the Alpen Corps' presence was kept secret due to political reasons—Germany had not declared war on Italy at that point. Acts like a photographer capturing images of German troops led to arrests and strict censorship, illustrating the tight controls placed on information to prevent revealing troop dispositions to the enemies.
Life in the Trenches and the Human Element
Vocht shares poignant stories of the soldiers' lives, including their burial sites and personal relics. The soldiers’ cemeteries serve as lasting memorials, such as the one reconstructed to honor fallen pioneers and other soldiers who perished in the snow and combat.
He highlights a particular example of soldiers buried beneath crosses inscribed with their names and death dates—some dying as late as 1918—serving as solemn reminders of the human cost. Remarkably, casualty numbers for Germans in this sector remain relatively low, partly due to the limited fighting and the weather-extreme conditions that hindered large-scale attacks.
The Strategic Takeaways
In conclusion, Vocht emphasizes how the Germans adapted quickly to mountain warfare, despite initial deficiencies. The Alpen Corps' training was largely experiential, gained through service in the Dolomites. Their resilience and ingenuity played a crucial role in holding Geneva’s mountain front, especially in the face of Italian ambitions.
The episode underscores the unique and brutal nature of alpine warfare during WWI, marked by harsh landscapes, logistical nightmares, and the ingenuity of soldiers fighting in environments that challenged their endurance and adaptability.
Final Reflections
This exploration of the Dolomites reveals a lesser-known theater of WWI—one characterized by extreme conditions and remarkable human stories. The cooperation and competition between Austrian, German, and Italian forces created a complex, deadly chessboard high in the mountains. Thanks to Vocht’s expertise and detailed research, viewers gain a nuanced understanding of these heroic, often overlooked campaigns that shaped the broader narrative of the Great War.
2/🧵The movie follows the duo’s routine cash pickup gone wrong as they are ambushed by criminals and forced into a dangerous survival chase. Directed by Tim Story, it also stars Keke Palmer and others.
The establishment has enforced EXTREME policies affecting the people for over three decades. They have surrendered sovereignty, democracy, freedoms, and borders. Speaking out is justified, yet efforts are being made to silence those who challenge extreme ideologies. The message is clear: silence will not be accepted.
Things are pretty tense in the UK right now. Recent riots and unrest, especially around immigration policies, have a lot of people on edge. Misinformation on social media isn't helping. It's a mess, honestly.
Totally, it's frustrating how hard it is to just talk things out these days. Everyone's so quick to take sides instead of listening. Makes the tension in the UK even worse with everything going on
we kind of have the same thing happening here in the US... tho no riots yet. People have gone tribal (red team or blue team). They can't think critically anymore.
Yeah, it's the same vibe in the US. People are so stuck on red or blue that they can't see past their own team. Critical thinking gets lost in the noise
Seems like a lot of risk for little reward. These days I never trust any centealized parties.
You can find plenty of low risk ways to earn a yield on ETH on chain that pays more without the cex risk.

Sweet payout! I’m cautious about pinning exact price targets like $120 for LSTR, though. Market sentiment can shift fast, and external factors play a big role. Still, the yield and growth potential look promising based on current trends
My math is way off. More like $288. Winning!!!
Yeah I don't think people have mentally prepared to see LSTR in the triple digits
LSTR and LEO are reflexive. As LEO increases, LSTR's balance sheet holdings of LEO because of LPS (LEO Per Share) rises
It's reflexive so when one goes up, they both benefit
LEO goes up = LeoStrategy can issue more products and raise more capital to buy more LEO which makes LEO go up further
All the while, real revenue products drive more bolstering to the balance sheet by raising LPS
One needs to just watch the LPS of LeoStrategy. As long as it is growing, the plan is working incredibly well
The faster LPS grows, the better it performs overall

Amazing, welcome to club SURGE
Growing older brings the realization that many individuals, despite being engaging, popular, and intelligent, often lack fundamental kindness.
LeoStrategy is the ultimate form of permanent capital on a balance sheet that accretively generates permanent buying pressure on the underlying asset
In our case, we are permanent buyers of $LEO. We operate for the benefit of the whole ecosystem and we are absorbing LEO onto our balance sheet at unprecedented rates
LPS is now over 22 per share of LSTR. At the current LEO price, this = $2.42 worth of LEO per 1 share of LSTR outstanding
LSTR and SURGE are trading at massive discounts. LSTR is discounted relative to our mNAV and SURGE is discounted at $0.79 (floor price is $1) for a limited time because of the Presale
We are gearing up for our debut on the Base blockchain. Things are getting red hot for LeoStrategy. We'll have a major announcement Blog Post tomorrow about our capital structure and what we're seeking to do for the next 4 months that are left in 2025. Strap in for $10 LEO

SURGE effective yield is now 19% and there are 198 holders!
$612.601 in dividends already paid out and we're seeing more and more holders each week
Now that we've seen 20% of all SURGE sold out, I think things will accelerate quickly

In a world dominated by useful AI chatbots and agents, many current methods may face challenges in terms of necessity and utility.
AIs like xAI and OpenAI could securely store payment details, conducting transactions directly via stablecoins.

All the major money-solved problems are eliminated at the Rich level, but all the major money-created problems seem to pop up at the Mega-Rich level.
Well, this is an interesting theory
Totally get this. Hitting "Rich" solves the core struggles, but "Mega-Rich" often trades one stress for another. I’m focused on building steady wealth for time freedom, not chasing excess. What’s your target level on this scale?
All of them agree on something: neither one wants to be poor 😭

Short-term Bitcoin peaks occur when there's a temporary shortage of fiat currency among buyers, typically in periods under four years. Conversely, Bitcoin bottoms happen when sellers deplete their Bitcoin supply.
Over the long term, beyond four years, there isn't a permanent peak against the USD since fiat currencies remain available for buyers. Long-term perspectives of over four years suggest a pattern of increasingly higher lows and highs.

With thirty items, self-checkout can feel like a hassle with all the scanning and bagging. I'd probably go for the in-person cashier just to save time and effort.

Part 1/11:
The Pacific Theatre in World War I: An Overlooked Front
Although the majority of the global conflict of World War I is often associated with the brutal battles across Europe, a less-publicized but equally significant theater unfolded across the South Pacific. Early in the war, empires clashed in this remote region, reshaping nations and leaving lasting legacies. This article explores the historic events, military campaigns, and geopolitical shifts in the Pacific during the First World War, reflecting on how this distant front contributed to the wider conflict.
The Roots of Conflict in the South Pacific
Part 2/11:
In the late 19th century, European powers, alongside Japan and the United States, carved out colonial holdings in the South Pacific, largely motivated by strategic interests and territorial expansion. Germany, in particular, formalized its presence through annexations such as German New Guinea, German Samoa, and various small islands like the Marshalls and Marianas. These islands, though limited in strategic or economic value initially, became part of Germany’s broader imperial ambitions.
Part 3/11:
At the outbreak of WWI in 1914, Germany's primary regional military force was concentrated at Tsingtao, China—a key naval base housing the German East Asia Squadron commanded by Maximilian von Spee. This squadron was well-known for its aggressive operations in the Pacific, although Germany had little contingency plans for defending its colonial holdings against the Allied powers.
Early Actions: Seizing German Territories
Part 4/11:
The Allies, mainly Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, quickly moved to occupy German territories in the region. New Zealand's first military action was the occupation of Samoa, where the Samoa Expeditionary Force, totaling 1,400 men, arrived on August 29, 1914. To their surprise, they encountered no resistance as the wireless station there had been rendered inoperable by the Germans beforehand.
Part 5/11:
This operation marked one of the earliest Allied deployments in the war, but it was not the first occupation of German territory—this honor went to Germany’s Togo colony in Africa, occupied days earlier. Meanwhile, Australia assembled a 2,000-strong force tasked with capturing wireless stations in New Guinea, Nauru, the Caroline Islands, and New Britain. These campaigns led to actual combat beginning on September 11, 1914, where seven Australian soldiers, one German, and thirty indigenous police officers lost their lives during the occupation process.
Conditions and Challenges of Occupation
Part 6/11:
Part 7/11:
The Pacific as a Naval Arena
Part 8/11:
Part 9/11:
Another famous vessel, SMS Seeadler, managed to evade capture after scuttling 16 ships in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Its captain, Felix von Luckner, became a legendary figure, navigating a small boat to Fiji before being captured and interned in New Zealand. Luckner’s daring escapades, including his escape from captivity and subsequent pursuit, added a romantic chapter to the Pacific naval theater.
Long-Term Impacts and Legacy
Part 10/11:
Conclusion
Part 11/11:

The Battle of Cambrai: A Landmark Use of Tanks
Part 2/14:
One of the highlights of recent military developments was the British Army's massive deployment of over 300 tanks during the Battle of Cambrai. This event marked the largest tank operation in history up to that point. Initial success was evident as the tanks pushed into German-held lines, but the victory was short-lived. Once more than half of the tanks broke down or were repelled, the offensive stalled. Meanwhile, the Germans and Russians were seeking to halt hostilities altogether.
British Advances and Leadership Losses
Part 3/14:
Alongside the Western Front, British forces continued their campaigns in Palestine and German East Africa. Notably, Stanley Maude, the British commander in Mesopotamia, died during the campaign—representing a significant loss. The subsequent days saw a series of battles in East Africa, culminating in the near-total collapse of German military presence in the region.
The East African Campaign: Battles, Defeats, and German Retreat
Part 4/14:
On November 25, the German and Portuguese forces clashed in the Battle of Negovan, driven by German supply shortages. General Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck led the German effort to invade Portuguese East Africa to prevent British pursuit and to secure vital supplies. Under Major João Pinto, Portuguese forces faltered against the larger German-led forces and indigenous fighters, suffering heavy losses, including near-annihilation of their units.
Part 5/14:
The Russian Front: A Brief Pause in Hostilities
Part 6/14:
Part 7/14:
Trotsky condemned the secret diplomacy, criticizing the ruling classes for surreptitious dealings and promoting the revolutionary slogan: "Proletarians of the world, unite!" Confidence in secret agreements waned, and tolerance for neutrality and pacifism diminished. For example, in Bologna, a woman was imprisoned for six months for claiming the Germans were invincible and that the war was Britain’s fault.
The Western Front: Ongoing Battles and Tactical Developments
Part 8/14:
Back on the Western Front, the Battle of Cambrai persisted through late November and into early December. British forces under the 62nd Division attempted to seize the Boulogne Ridge and the nearby forest with armored support. Initially successful at times, German counterattacks began to push back the British. Tanks, particularly those meant to storm towns like Bandennote-Dam, proved ill-suited for narrow, urban combat, often becoming easy targets for German machine guns. Despite some advances, British soldiers primarily withdrew to construct defensive positions.
Part 9/14:
Italian Army Reforms and the War of Attrition
Part 10/14:
Part 11/14:
Part 12/14:
Notable Deaths and War Innovation
Amidst the turmoil, notable military figures fell. On November 21, Rudolf von Eschewege, a distinguished German ace pilot, was killed during combat in the Macedonian front. Innovative defenses such as gas-filled balloons were used by the Allies to protect ammunition depots from aerial attack, one of which tragically claimed the life of "The Eaglet of the Aegean," a renowned pilot.
The Broader Geopolitical Picture
Part 13/14:
Reflection
Part 14/14:
Imagine the mental toll faced by soldiers on the Western Front, faced with the deployment of experienced German troops after over three years of relentless fighting. Such a strategic shift foreshadows escalating difficulties for the Allies deeply entrenched in grueling trench warfare. Part 1/11:
Exploring the Italian Dolomites and the German Alpen Corps in World War I
In a captivating journey high above the Italian Dolomites, Indy Neidell and special guest Emmanuel Vocht delve into the gritty realities and strategic significance of this formidable mountain front during World War I. Towering at 8,500 feet (around 2,700 meters), they explore the rugged terrain to shed light on the remarkable military operations that unfolded in one of Europe’s most challenging environments.
The Location and Its Historical Context
Part 2/11:
Key Locations and Military Significance
Part 3/11:
A notable feature visible from their vantage point is an old fort—initially constructed by Austrians in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to defend strategic mountain corridors. Vocht explains that while these forts became outdated with advancements in artillery, some were cleverly manipulated by the Austrians, who left them seemingly intact while disabling their weaponry. This deception led Italian forces into costly attacks on structures that were no longer operational, illustrating the tactical ingenuity employed in the mountain warfare.
Part 4/11:
Part 5/11:
Despite their late formation, the Alpen Corps—numbering up to 26,000 men and supported by nearly 9,500 horses—became vital in defending the front. They were more of an enforced division rather than an official core, comprising experienced troops from various German units, such as the Prussian and Mecklenburg infantry, who learned the mountain craft through on-the-ground experience rather than formal training.
The Challenges Faced by Troops and the Battle Environment
Part 6/11:
Casualties and Memorials
Part 7/11:
Part 8/11:
Vocht speculates on what might have happened had Italian General Luigi Cadorna launched a large-scale assault in June 1915. He suggests that the Germans benefited from the limited fighting and the training gained on the job, which allowed their troops to withstand potential early attacks. Had the Italians attacked more aggressively, casualties and losses could have been significantly higher—highlighting the importance of cautious Italian strategies and the German reliance on improvisation and learning through experience.
Secrecy and Intelligence in Mountain Warfare
Part 9/11:
Part 10/11:
Part 11/11:

Applause for the UK 🇬🇧
Is the UK about to implode? What's happening there?
Things are pretty tense in the UK right now. Recent riots and unrest, especially around immigration policies, have a lot of people on edge. Misinformation on social media isn't helping. It's a mess, honestly.
yeah I was asking because I seen things online. That sucks... and people can't have conversations anymore!
