It's very easy for little things like this to destroy a friendship. I understood your level of trust for John when you insisted that he couldn't have done what he actually did. It's good he was honest about it and also he realize that it was his fault. It really is heartbreaking to loss such a friendship but what can be done... the trust has been broken
