This makes me wonder what your Instructor/lecturer's motives are when that woman was getting on your case. Is it personal? Or is there a point that she didn't make very well.
Many years ago, I had an Nursing Instructor that all the students hated because she was a tough as nails drill Sargent styled teacher, I finally figured her out why she is the way she is, so when I understood her motives and rationale I came to trust her judgement. I was right, and that is why her students often finish at the top of her class.
