You better be ready... Self-defense.

I've always been in the habit of fitting my earphones in my ear and having them attached to my phone whenever I'm leaving my apartment. People see that and think I'm lost in my own world but that's never the case because I don't have any sound coming out of the earphones once I'm outdoors.

Using earphones like that creates the illusion that I'm not conscious of the things happening in my environment, but that's never the case. I'm very alert to everything happening around me when I'm walking down any street because I'm always watching others to get an eyeful of who they are. Besides, I always have just one ear of my earphone plugged on while the other is left hanging around my ear.

I do that to give myself an extra layer of security because I know for a fact that there are people who wake up each day to attack careless folks in the street. These people are all about malevolence and they enjoy inflicting pain. They always creep up on people who are naive and rob them. That's something I'm aware of. So, I try as much as possible to not expose myself to situations like that.

You would be surprised by how much you would be able to know about people by just watching and looking them in the eye when you come face to face with them. That's particularly why I don't ever drop eye contact when I'm moving around. My ability to observe the environment makes it really easy to see when people start getting creepy. Knowing that is usually the first advantage you can give yourself in such situations.

You don't want to be caught in a situation where you are cowering and moving around like someone who isn't sure of what he's doing.

Once I detect that a weird set of folks are moving around in a fishy way on any street I'm walking on, I literally get myself ready for anything that could happen. I mostly prepare my mind for the worst possible outcome although what I've noticed especially when I'm in a completely new environment is that some of these folks checking you out from different corners are also smart enough to do their assignment before approaching.

In moments like that, if you show any fear or sign of cowardice, they will jump you and feast on your fears. However, if you keep bouncing with a demeanor that shows you are also on business while maintaining eye contact, a lot of them would read you as someone they wouldn't want to mess with either.

One thing you need to always have in mind when you notice someone who looks like he wants to come a little too close in the street is that even when you are seeing just that person, there may be a lot more of them in hidden places. A lot of them are like teenage bullies. They can't do shit alone. So, don't be too sensitive or reactionary. If it's not necessary, don't try to cause a scene. But, when it's obvious that he's going to pull some rubbish on you, make sure your first hit will land a knockout.

That will completely make others rethink joining the fight. Seriously, real life isn't Hollywood where the bullies will keep running toward you after knocking out the first one.

Here's an extra tip...

I always move around with a bunch of keys in my hand. I have this bunch that holds all the keys I've been using since 12 years ago when I was still in boarding school and I still use that bunch of key to this day. When I move around with them in hand, it's partly because I don't want to forget the key anywhere. Another reason is that keys are highly underrated as a self-defense tool.

Keys held between your knuckles can serve as an effective weapon. So, have that in mind.

I always say that no sane person would ever pray to come across chaotic situations. But, better be ready when it happens.

Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop or Comma.

I need to come for some training because truly, we need to heighten the level of our defence in the world we live in today.

On a normal day, I don't intentionally intimidate people with my height but in places where I feel insecure, I raise my shoulder too much for you to even think of challenging me.

This key thing is actually true, I have a guy who has a small foldable knife attached to his key holder. He always said, he can leave his keys behind so the knife is always going around with him.

We really can't be too protective or security conscious, we have to be always on high alert.

Bro... Security is a very big deal in this part of the world. It's a big challenge and the reason we need to be this prepared at all time is no longer for ourselves alone. I don't want to be moving around with my family in the future and be exposed to a situation where I will just be watching them get attacked by some weird stranger.

The world isn't getting easier. So, it's now left for us to be capable of protecting ourselves and those around us both financially and physically.

A young girl once said that I walk like a big man(whatever that means😂), but actually, I just walk on my toes with my head raised. I never give anyone the impression that I am lost and I do not miss eye contact.

I think, though, that my years of just staying calm and moving solo has helped me stay observant, and so I quickly sense an anomaly. My body language speaks for itself. But I don't move with a weapon. A friend of mine does, though. She moves with a small knife, which she tucks in her belt.

True. Anyone that's used to moving around alone without being in a group is usually more observant of his/her environment. I've never been identified with any clique and I'm not in the habit of moving around with people. This has made me to be even more smart about my movement.

Your friend that moves around with a small knife most have had some really wild life experience. Hehe. Life can make you to always prepare for the worst even when you are in paradise 😂

Can you believe I just practised how to hold a key between my knuckles for self-defence? I've never thought of that before, a great tip. Thanks for sharing.

Popped in from Dreemport, always an awesome #dreemerforlife.

It’s like you will teach me o. Which one is this? Taekwondo or Judo?

But honestly, beautiful tips here. Thank you.

My take is always that fancy skulls like taekwondo and Judo won't be very effective in a street fight. However, MMA and Boxing are legit for that sort of situation.

Reading and smiling all through.
I just hope I'm not the only one who thinks of fight/self defense always.
I haven't thought of that for a long while 😅

Nice expo bro, especially with the bunch of keys😅

Lol... After everything we've seen and the ones we are still seeing, it has become obvious that picking up on self-defense skills are very important. Haha.

I just hope you will never be in need of for your key brass knuckle. Or have you already ?

It can be scary out there, that is both sad and true. l am doing the same thing with my headphones. Always on, but all you can hear is silence :)

Nah. I haven't been in a situation where I have to depend on it. I start by making sure I don't make unnecessary movements during odd hours or to odd places.

I prefer to not be in these chaotic situations. However, I just stay light and prepared for the worst whenever I step out of my apartment.
