I remember my old friend who was diagnosed with anxiety and another illness. To avoid focusing too much on her condition, she bought coloring materials and activity booklets. Her personal goal was simple: not to go beyond the lines while coloring.
Her purpose in doing this was that whenever her anxiety or illness became overwhelming, instead of dwelling on the pain or discomfort, her mind would shift its attention to coloring. According to her, it helped a lot—at least it gave her mind some rest from constantly thinking about her sickness.
