Being A Kid For A Day

This is neither rant, nor complaint, it's just talk. Talk about me being a kid for a day πŸ˜‚ Today I decided to take it easy and relax as I feel like both my body and mind need a break and for me the best way to do that is occupy my hands and attention on something creative and fun. A few of these activities are sewing, drawing or coloring. Sewing needs a bot more attention as precision is key, so I decided to do a bit of coloring.

Being A Kid For A Day.jpg

@mipiano had a post about her coloring, about 5 weeks ago or so and I commented I had some creative projects coming up, but lack of time is stopping me. Today I can show her my coloring books and not only that.

20250816_183948a.JPG

It is called The secret garden and it's a coloring book for adults I have for a decade or more and still only a few pages are colored. Yeah, shame on me.

20250816_173001a.JPG

The drawings are quite complex and you see like 0.001% colored on a few and the rest is still waiting for me.

20250816_173009a.JPG

The reason I love this particular one is because it leaves room for you to add your own creativity, design the free space on the pots for example.

20250816_172636a.JPG

Here for example there's room to design the flowers and the butterflies further. It's a great practice for those who want to evolve in the world of art and are at the beginning.

20250816_183958a.JPG

Recently I bought another one, which is very different from the first one and it is called Manic Botanic.

20250816_172937a.JPG

20250816_172926a.JPG

As you can see, it's quite complex and you really have to have a vision about how it's going to look like before you start and plan the colors accordingly.

20250816_175135a.JPG

20250816_175213a.JPG

I took out my arsenal (what you se here is only half of it though) and my Hotel Transylvania pencil case and got ready for the big job πŸ˜†

20250816_182050a.JPG

Freedom here is grated, you can do whatever you want and as an adult, there are no parents to judge you or scold you for creating green petals or using unrealistic colors 🀣

20250816_183732a.JPG

You can see I did a crappy job at it as I'm not in the best shape, but that's besides the point as I'm not competing today, not even with myself. But if I am to take this seriously, it's a nice way of focusing on precision.

The reason I love these activities is because first of all it takes me away from my daily activity, from trading and helps me sort out my thoughts So basically what I'm creating is less important, the focus is on relaxing and thinking of the future, or the past to learn what went wrong and what needs to be changed. Digital drawing is a bit different as you have a blank page and it's on you to create something amazing or just acceptable, which needs focus and as I'm not an artist, that's not exactly the sheer definition of relaxing for me, so today I chose coloring.

But this is not the only kiddy thing I have done lately πŸ˜† The other one is heavier πŸ™ˆ and it's not just for a day, so please don't tell anyone 🀣

20250816_202406a.JPG

See what I mean? πŸ˜‚ I got an ad on my phone, from a well known and trusted platform selling shoes, with 70% discount, so I thought let's check it out as sales these days are a good opportunity buy good, leather shoes.

I bought a pair of black suede shoes, but browsing through the offer, I saw these cloggs and were literally calling my name. There were like 10 different colors and designs and after an hour of thinking, I said, YOLO and ordered these. They got delivered yesterday, so today I got to wear them already, even while coloring πŸ˜„

20250816_202414a.JPG

I'm still laughing when I look at them and others would too, but these will be only for home use. I don't go out wearing flip flops, unless I'm going to the beach, but I would not wear these at the beach either. When I was a kid, we didn't have these things as those were other times, so I guess my subconscious is compensating me for that.

20250816_202420a.JPG

I guess it's good to go crazy every now and then and do things you don't usually do. I don't mean get drunk and smash something, I mean harmless, childish things. It helps you relax and also forget about the daily things. The market is going sideways during weekends as institutional players are not participating and traditional markets are closed, so I'm usually enjoying my weekend or studying, but an unusual day or two can't hurt.

So now I'm publishing my post and then going to hide behind the couch 🀣

Hey! you have caught my attention. Try it! I assure you that those books can be your salvation when you need to disconnect from reality, I've been trying art therapy with those books for a while now.

Just a while ago I got these from the line you show at the beginning (by Johanna Basford), and I was delighted with them, however, I accept that they are difficult drawings, you may need to try with some simpler ones first, I did it and now I love these more complex ones.

Your crocs turned out spectacular hehe, what's left for us? Try to pamper our inner child from time to time so that adult life doesn't consume us completely.

Love your post! and loved your books, your Hotel Transylvania pencil case looks great. I think I'll buy some stuff to decorate my crocs alhora πŸ˜…πŸ˜….

Cheers Erika, thanks for sharing your experience and I hope you get to like drawing in the books enough to give use to those wonders you had saved. love them! πŸ’•

Already have. This post is exactly about that.

You think I have 2 left hands and can't manage the complex ones?

I agree, we should not exclude childish things from our life and should not let others rule our life as these things can help us deal with daily stress and bring a few hours of childish happiness πŸ˜€

Thanks for stopping by and have a nice weekend πŸ˜‰

Haha. Sorry, I didn't explain myself well. I mean, make it a more frequent part of your life, as a form of mindfulness, "Artherapy"

β€œTwo left hands” no no, nothing like that, it's just that many people have told me that they find drawings with a lot of detail overwhelming, that's why I always recommend the simple ones first, at least that's what worked for me. But if you can handle this one. Go for it!

Happy weekend to you too πŸ‘‹πŸΌ.

I think it all comes down to some basic skill, focus, dedication and supplies. As you see, I took out my pencils as well but having to deal with so small spaces makes it difficult, you hsve to sharpen your pencils every minute, therefore I used ink.

If you don't recognize the problem, there comes frustration and instead of a therapeutic effect, you get exactly the opposite.

I didn't go for the complex ones as again I only had very limited time and I knew I can't finish it, but it's coming πŸ€ͺ

Perfect! I hope you'll show us the result when you have more time. I started one today and didn't make any progress, just stuck in the middle πŸ™ƒ and I chose a really simple one, but I just couldn't do it 🫠.

I will show you my progress for sure.

But why couldn't you finish it? Lack of time or inspiration?

It's a nice one in any case.

I think what's happening to me is a lack of concentration. This week I've wanted to do a lot of things but haven't been able to πŸ˜–. Especially when I'm drawing, I focus on my thoughts to try to organize them, but even this strategy didn't work for me today, which is why I didn't make any progress. I'm always encouraging everyone to do art therapy, but this time I couldn't even do it πŸ˜…πŸ₯Ή. I guess I'll try again tomorrow, and if not, later in the week. Anyway, I always post them in my posts when I finish them with a reflection on what I got while drawing. I'll wait for yours too πŸ’•.

Taking time to do some things that are fun and help you take your mind off things is very important and necessary because we easily get very entangled with those things happening around us.

I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately so many are just sitting in front of the TV for hours, which can make things worse in so many levels.

TV is still good. These days it's their smart phones and laptops. Some even forget to use the toilet, lol.

I remember my old friend who was diagnosed with anxiety and another illness. To avoid focusing too much on her condition, she bought coloring materials and activity booklets. Her personal goal was simple: not to go beyond the lines while coloring.

Her purpose in doing this was that whenever her anxiety or illness became overwhelming, instead of dwelling on the pain or discomfort, her mind would shift its attention to coloring. According to her, it helped a lotβ€”at least it gave her mind some rest from constantly thinking about her sickness.

You're right, coloring is a therapeutic activity that is used for helping patients dealing with different mental health issues and not only. It stimulates the brain and helps those who had a stroke as well. It's helpful in many ways for those who are willing to give it a chance.

I love it! Coloring is so relaxing, and those books are perfect for an adult to do. β™₯

I like doing those colouring books on flights. Daughter downloaded colour by numbers and its strangely relaxing . Has Vinted reached your country yet? It has taken here by storm.

Nah! You shouldn't be embarrassed about not finishing coloring your book. In fact, I think it's even more valuable that you turn to it whenever you feel like it, whenever you want to clear your mind, and even though time passes, you open it and it brings back memories of times gone by.
Personally, painting is also therapeutic for me because I feel like I have to concentrate on doing it well, and I stop thinking about the things that occupy my mind. But, well, since I work in 3D printing, there are weeks when I have to paint a lot of jobs, and that ends up stressing me out, ha ha ha.

Yeah, it depends what the purpose of painting is. If you do it as a job or an assignment, it changes everything. They say if you love what you do, you don't have t work for the rest of your life, but when you have deadlines, it can become stressful.
