RE: Erste maßgeschneide Gentherapie erfolgreich am Menschen angewandt

This fascinates me! However, I think it is most likely that this gene therapy will not impact the germline, because he still has the disease, as I understand it, which implies that KJ will pass this mutation on to his offspring. If gene therapy becomes commonplace and everyone manages to survive and reproduce, we would end up accumulating too many harmful mutations in the "population." It is essential to recognize early that we need a complete genomic therapy that also influences the germ line, so the patient will not transmit this to their children. I understand that this allows for all kinds of testing, but if we handle it responsibly, we can achieve it. I'm happy for KJ, I hope he has a wonderful life!

You are right, he would (with a 100% chance) inherit this mutation to his offspring. But gene therapy that inflicts the germ line cells is even more dangerous. To manipulate our genome in that way is currently not yet feasible because you can´t be sure about some undesired other changes which could effect other genes in completely unexpected ways. And once it is better in control, I think it becomes even more dangerous because of the social implications (like the ones in the SF-film "Gattaca"). Or governments could enforce people to undergo gene therapy (or forbid them to have children). A dystopian world.

I totally agree with you, 100%, but with what we have seen in recent years where globalism is taking us; "They" covers all areas, especially technological ones, to lead us to a technocracy, we must be alert!!

Greetings!
