Listen to the leaves as you walk

Something I now enjoy about Wednesdays, even when I'm not going to write a post, is that I'm more aware of everything around me. Sometimes I just don't feel like taking pictures, but I still consciously observe beautiful things that can be found anywhere, and yes, indeed, they are everywhere, you just have to know how to look.

Today, for example, I left early in the morning to run some errands and stopped at a bus stop to wait for the bus. The truth is that this bus always takes a long time to arrive and doesn't have a fixed morning schedule, which means that sometimes you have to wait longer than expected. But instead of stressing out or desperately thinking about the fact that the bus was never coming, I focused on finding some beautiful things that were there.

To begin with, this stop was mainly made because people stopped there to get some shade, so obviously there are several fairly leafy trees that shade the whole area. But something I love about this time of year here in Venezuela is that the trees start to shed their leaves, and although the green is still there, there are also shades of brown, yellow, and orange from the dry leaves that fall.

So I couldn't help but notice all those things scattered on the ground like a yellow and brown carpet. But on top of that, since they're dry, walking is a super relaxing activity because you can hear the crunch with every step. This stop is quite long, and the truth is that there are usually shops around, so I often stop by to buy a few things, but today, being Wednesday, it wasn't just a quick stop, it was taking the time to look closely at those little things I usually ignore.

The trees at this stop are from a plant called neem, and I can remember exactly when they planted all these trees. It was several years ago, and it was the best decision that could have been made because now they provide shade for this entire area. On several occasions, many of their branches have been cut, and you can really notice the difference because there are now gaps where the sun shines through, and there are few places to take refuge from it.

They will probably cut them again soon because there are power lines nearby, and they can't allow them to come into contact with them. But in the meantime, while they are not being cut back, it is nice to be able to enjoy how beautiful it looks when the sunlight shines through their branches. Besides, it is a slightly different type of tree, with different leaves, and it is pretty to look at. Although I don't love the smell of the seeds it produces at some time of year that I don't know, it still looks beautiful.

Your reflection on the neem trees and the "yellow and brown carpet" of dry leaves beautifully captures the transition from rushing through life to truly inhabiting it.
