Well, they grow in moss which has no minerals in it (unless someone dumps mineral water on them). The rain is distilled naturally so that also works for them. If it weren't, we would all be drinking salt water rain.

Mine are outside and they do fine in the rain. I have a distiller for those times I have to water them, that's all.
