Sometimes what you might need is sitting right next to you...
This is going to be a short story of how I found this little guy who brighten my day one morning when I turn the pot slowly and saw it was just a heart staring up at me. See a short video.
I am not sure what kind of plant this is. As most of you know, my garden consists of two sectors. One is interesting plants plus vegetables and fruits. And the other is filled with carnivorous plants which gobble up any bugs or mosquitoes that wander into my terrace. These two types of plants cannot be next to each other because normal soil (or splatter from another plant in normal soil) will kill the bug eaters.
This cute little plant, the subject of this post, was originally just two little leaves like you see here sprouting out of the Moss right next to a large drosera plant. I let it be because it wasn't bothering the larger plant.
At first it got a little bit taller and then two more leaves identical to the first two sprouted at the base of the stem. As I said, I have no idea what kind of plant this is and I thought I would let it develop. If I liked it, I would transplant it.
It happened to sprout up in a pot filled with moss which has no fertilizer or nutritional value for any plant. Besides that, the carnivorous plants only get distilled water because minerals destroy them. They die immediately if they have tap water what river water.
If this little guy is a normal plant, it will eventually need the other kind of soil and will get moved to the other sector.
There's one thing about photography that bothers me. If you take a close up shot of something, there will be no context as to how big or small that item is. To add the context, here's a picture of my little heart with my pinky finger in the background.
I had been having a real downer of a day and at the time, this plant was right next to me while I typed away at the computer. I gave it some water, and turned the pot to find that it was nearly a perfect heart depending on what angle you look at it from. The sight of it lifted my spirits and I ended up having a pretty good day. I hope it can do something for your day as well!
The final note: I'm really new to The Hive Garden community. I got a fair amount of interaction with the last post that I made, and I wanted to tell you all thank you. It means a lot to me! My garden is very diverse as I described above. I'm hoping that my carnivorous garden, half of my garden, would be acceptable under the community guidelines. Most of what I post will be about plants that I intentionally wanted to raise. This little post is more about something incidental that happened and ended up brighteningn my day. 🌱

How do carnivorous plants survive in nature if they must have distilled water?
Well, they grow in moss which has no minerals in it (unless someone dumps mineral water on them). The rain is distilled naturally so that also works for them. If it weren't, we would all be drinking salt water rain.
Mine are outside and they do fine in the rain. I have a distiller for those times I have to water them, that's all.
Moss.. make perfect sense..
Ah there's nothing sweeter than a new plant breaking soil!
That is so true. I wish I knew what this one is because it made my day when I needed a bit of love.
