La Empalizada: Carne en vara y música llanera en vivo 🪉 [ESP/ENG]

En esta ocasión, quiero compartir con ustedes mi experiencia probando comida criolla en el restaurante llanero La Empalizada, ubicado en Hoyo de la Puerta. Es un lugar especializado en la preparación de carne en vara, donde, además de ofrecer comida típica de los llanos, también se presentan grupos de música llanera que ambientan el local.

On this occasion, I would like to share with you my experience trying Creole food at the La Empalizada restaurant in Hoyo de la Puerta. This restaurant specializes in preparing meat on a skewer and, in addition to offering typical food from the plains, it also features live music groups that liven up the atmosphere.

Hay un dicho que dice: «El gusto entra por los ojos», y en este caso también por el olfato, así que puedo decirles que la primera impresión del lugar es bastante buena: la ambientación es muy bonita y te hace sentir como si estuvieras en el llano, y los olores que te reciben al entrar despiertan automáticamente las ganas de comer 🤤.

There is a saying that goes, “You eat with your eyes first,” and in this case, with your nose as well, so I can tell you that the first impression of the place is quite good: the atmosphere is very nice and makes you feel like you are in the plains, and the smells that greet you when you enter automatically awaken your appetite.

Ahora vamos con el tema que nos interesa: ¿la comida es tan buena como parece? Les seré completamente sincera: quedé algo decepcionada. Pedimos una canoa familiar que incluía cochino asado, carne en vara, pollo asado, chorizo y bollos aliñados picantes, y además 1 kg de carne en vara con una cachapa familiar con queso de mano.

Now let's get to the topic that interests us: is the food as good as it seems? I'll be completely honest with you: I was a little disappointed. We ordered a family-sized canoa that included roast pork, carne en vara (grilled beef), roast chicken, chorizo, and spicy seasoned buns, as well as 1 kg of carne en vara with a family-sized cachapa with mano cheese.

Empecemos por la carne: considero que estaba un poco insípida y algo dura. El cochino, que se supone que tiene mucho sabor, también me pareció bastante simple. El chorizo no estaba mal, pero he probado muchos mejores, y la cachapa se notaba que estaba hecha solo con maíz, pero le pusieron demasiado azúcar. Lo único que puedo decir que estaba increíble fueron los bollos picantes; de hecho, fueron lo mejor de todo.

Let's start with the meat: I thought it was a little bland and somewhat tough. The pork, which is supposed to be very flavorful, also seemed quite plain to me. The chorizo wasn't bad, but I've had much better, and the cachapa was clearly made with only corn, but they put too much sugar in it. The only thing I can say was incredible were the spicy buns; in fact, they were the best part of the whole meal.

El servicio fue muy agradable, de verdad que nos atendieron muy bien, todos fueron amables y serviciales. La música fue espectacular y el grupo nos encantó, pero al final lo que más nos interesa es la comida y, en este caso, les daré una puntuación de 6/10. En Maturín he comido con mucha más calidad, así que, en comparación, Caracas perdió jeje. No creo que repetiría en este sitio, a menos que le diera una oportunidad a la sopa, ya que no la probamos. De todas formas, les animo a comer allí si tienen la oportunidad, porque quizás a ustedes sí les parece que vale la pena; esta es solo mi opinión y siempre aconsejo sacar sus propias conclusiones basándose en su propia experiencia.

The service was very pleasant, they really took good care of us, everyone was friendly and helpful. The music was spectacular and we loved the band, but in the end what interests us most is the food, and in this case, I'll give them a score of 6 out of 10. I've had much better quality food in Maturín, so in comparison, Caracas lost out, haha. I don't think I would go back to this place, unless I gave the soup a try, since we didn't try it. Anyway, I encourage you to eat there if you have the chance, because maybe you will find it worthwhile; this is just my opinion, and I always advise people to draw their own conclusions based on their own experience.

Al final, mi suegra lo pasó increíble y eso es lo importante, ya que era su cumpleaños y escogió ese lugar. Nosotros llevamos la torta y, junto con el grupo musical, le cantamos la canción de cumpleaños, cerrando así la noche con broche de oro.

In the end, my mother-in-law had an amazing time, and that's what matters, since it was her birthday and she chose that place. We brought the cake and, together with the band, sang her the birthday song, ending the night on a high note.
