Solar Power Equipment at Home

This is a bit of personal experience and experimentation with solar power light with just a small panel on the roof of my house. It was my first time seeing how solar panel can produce electricity directly from the sunlight even without any technical work done on it.

The experiment was initiated by my son with a small size panel that he brought home from a building site where he was working as an apprentice for an electrician. He was curious to see if he could use it to generate power to charge his phone and other small devices in the house.

At first, I never believed that it would actually work, because there was no inverter or battery system to connect to it, as I knew it to be. But my son insisted on trying it anyway, and to my surprise, it actually works. He climbed the roof of the house and installed the panel in a spot that received direct sunlight throughout most of the day.

He got some old cables in the house and connected it to the panel directly and then pass the cable through the ceiling into the sitting room where he connected it to a USB charging port that was salvaged from an old power bank, and he was able to charge his phone successfully.

The experiment opened my eyes to the potential of solar power and how simple it's to set it up. Without an inverter and battery system, we were able to generate power that could charge a phone to some extent. The only problem was that the power was not strong enough, and could only work during the day time when there was sufficient sunlight.

If by any chance I had enough money in the near future, I would leverage my son's knowledge and experience to set up a proper solar system with battery and inverter that would allow us to store energy and use it even at night for lighting the house. This could solve our long standing electric problem and save us money for charging phones at the charging centers.

I hope that the year 2026 brings me financial stability. This solar power system will be one of my top priorities to invest in this year.

That means that the days of visiting the charging station is over, right? 🙌🏼
Well done to both of you. Especially your son for keep pushing

Not really, because the power generated from the panel isn't strong enough. The panel is very small and the power cannot charge a phone full even in two days. It's just a hang up charging solution for my son for now.

That's a shame. Would have been a great way to not need the charging station.

Have you tried making your own solar panel? I saw a video some time ago about that and found it very, very interesting 💪🏼

That's awesome, @thelastdash! Who knows? If you can get that working on a larger scale, you could start your own charging center and make some extra money on the side! 😁

That's right, the battery and inverter are the main things lacking. If we can get that then we are good to go. Even if it is for personal use, it would save us money because we spend nearly up to a dollar everyday to charge the five phones and two power banks we have in our house.
