An Experience to Share

About two weeks ago, I saw a post on Hive about a weekly writing contest by a particular community and decided to join the contest in hope of getting recognition and maybe earning some rewards for my submission. But after finishing with the article I intended to submit, and reading the rules more carefully I saw that I wasn't qualified to participate because the community only accepts entries from its verified members. So, I decided to publish my post in a community that I am used to.

This whole experience came back to my mind as I was reminiscing about my time on the platform and wondering if everyone on the Hive platform passes through a verification process before they could be allowed to post in the communities. I mean, with the numbers of people that are anonymous without a human face on their profiles and never revealed their faces in their posts, do they still go through the process of verification in communities?

This thing I am saying is not just about one community, it's something I have experienced with many communities on the platform since I joined late in 2024. I have tried to go through the verification to be able to participate in a few communities, but the process was quite a long one.

Even after submitting all that they asked for, which includes a picture of yourself holding a play card with your username written on it, it takes forever before you get a response from the moderators of those communities, and some make you to repeat the process multiple times because of something they feel you didn't do right. And honestly, it's discouraging when all you want is just to participate and contribute to a community.

So, the question remains, did they all go through the verification process or some people are exempted for reasons we don't know about? In my opinion, this doesn't encourage new users to be active on the platform. It creates a barrier that makes it harder for newcomers to engage and participate in the community of their interest. It can be so discouraging when you find a community that you actually know what they do and have something valuable to contribute but you can't because you haven't been verified and you don't have the patience to wait months for a response from a moderator who may still not accept you after waiting.

So, even though verification is to maintain the community and keep the platform safe from people with multiple accounts, the entry requirements should be made more flexible and also quick to encourage participation from new members.
