HOW TO MAKE CRISPY & SPICY NIGERIAN-STYLE YAMARITA AT HOME

Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗

In this post I will be sharing with you how to make a Nigerian-style yamarita dish. Yamarita is a tasty, crispy and spicy yam meal that is made by combining slices of yam, all-purpose flour, eggs and other ingredients together, then fried to absolute beauty. Instead of all-purpose flour you can also use wheat flour or oat flour among others.

In Nigeria, new yams have begun appearing in the markets which is an indication that the new harvest season is here and prices of food especially yam may reduce. So, this means you can add yamarita to your food time table and enjoy some deliciousness whilst it last (if you're in Nigeria or any country where the new yam season is just beginning).

Ingredients

  • ½ tuber of yam
    1000184282.jpg

  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour

  • 3 eggs
    1000184283.jpg

  • 1 tsp ground dry pepper

  • 2 seasoning cubes
    1000184284.jpg

  • Vegetable oil
    1000184285.jpg

  • Salt

Step by Step

  • We will start by peeling the yam and slicing it into thick long pieces as seen in the pictures attached.
    1000184286.jpg

  • Place them in a pot and boil them until they are halfway done. We don't want it to be too soft.
    1000184287.jpg

  • While the yam is boiling, in a bowl or plate, mix your all-purpose flour with some ground pepper, salt and seasoning. This flour mix is what we will be used to coat your yam alongside eggs.
    1000184288.jpg

  • Now, beat the eggs in a separate bowl and whisk thoroughly. Then set it aside.
    1000184289.jpg

  • Then, you will begin to coat the yam by rolling each piece one at a time in the seasoned flour mix. Next, you dip the same piece of yam into the eggs and coat it very well.
    1000184290.jpg

  • In a frying pan placed on medium heat add some vegetable oil and start adding the coated yam one after the other. Fry them until they turn golden brown.
    1000184291.jpg

  • When you are sure that they are done, pack them out of the fry pan and serve in your plate.
    1000184292.jpg

  • Now your premium yamarita is ready to be enjoyed.

Yamarita is also popular as a street food in some areas in Nigeria and it is widely consumed by students in some Higher Institutions of learning in quick spots where noodles, bread and eggs and the likes are always sold. Let me know if you will be trying this recipe out in the comment section.
