Commenting Goals
I post about my Hive goals every week, so many of you know what I'm shooting for there. But what of other goals?
Many of you know I try to post every single day. Due to one thing or another by first couple years on this platform, I missed days here and there, but for the past two or three years I've been able to meet my daily goal.
Why do I aim for daily posts? Mainly just to keep in the habit of writing and posting. Habits are funny things; if you miss one day it becomes much easier to miss another day, and if you aren't careful the entire thing can unravel on you. Most people fall out of the habit of going to the gym, for instance, because of that.
I enjoy writing and I want to keep myself doing it, so having the goal of a Hive post looming before me helps keep me on track.
I don't like his books all that much (to be honest) but I admire Stephen King for his work ethic. Every morning from seven to noon he locks himself in his office and forces himself to write. He's much richer and more successful than most of us will ever be and he doesn't need to do that anymore, but he still does anyway. I like that dedication to his craft and to doing something he loves.
But anyway, I didn't start this post to talk about that. I want to talk about my commenting.

I think on Hive @ @steevc and @bozz are probably two of the best commenters. They both knock out many comments everyday to a variety of people. There are a few others who are also very good at it. These guys are good models to emulate.
Commenting is a very valuable thing on Hive. It helps create and maintain connections—I suppose you could think of that as a kind of low-level networking, but I'd think of it more as just being friendly by showing interest in what other people are creating. It is also great to comment on newbie posts—they don't get a lot of attention and may be discouraged, so a comment can show them that they are welcome on this platform and that they are being seen.
Last year I had the soft goal of replying to all comments on my posts daily and writing comments on five additional posts. I did pretty good on that for most of the year.
During the holidays, however, I fell off the horse. During the holidays it was due to balance the increased family events with business things and with still doing my Hive posts. Since then, however, although I haven't tracked it, I wouldn't be surprised if wasting time on Discord has taken away from commenting. I'm going to try to get back to my normal level for the rest of this month, then increase it from there as I can. Producing my own content still has the priority, but after that I want to try to at least hit my soft commenting goals of replying to everyone who comments on my posts within a day or two and commenting on at least five other posts everyday.

Do you have any commenting goals on Hive? What are they?

Looks like I am just over 46,000 comments. I guess with that in mind I would make my goal 50,000. That's a lot of writing in six years! I think comments are the single best way to help grow your account and following. I need to do better at commenting on new people's posts and not the same people who visit me each day. That's another goal.
I got a ways to go to catch up with those numbers! That is a great goal, spread the comments around!
You can do it!
That's a lot of comments!
I know, I'm shocked!
You may catch up with me eventually :)
Also, I think you meant @steevc, I could be wrong though.
Yep! I don't know how I made that mistake... I selected his name from the popup. Hmm. Weird. Anyway, thanks for pointing it out.
Great goals, I need to work on the same. Sometimes I find myself short on time or by the evening I'm just too worn out. Engagement really is the key to growth, and @bozz and @steevc are great at it!
Yep. I'm the same way. But we should really try to make the effort.
It encourages me when I make an article and I get enough comments I feel that people have been interested and that is what one seeks to generate quality content, I try to interact daily on the platform although there are always many things, but it is the best way to support, if it has cost us time and effort to write a post, it is also appreciated that someone reads and comments on it
Yeah, that is the biggest thing. Commenting encourages people. That's a great reason to do it as much as possible.

I often upvote or leave a simple gif comment as a reply... I do not know if this is appropriate or not
I think it's ok, and can make people smile, so that's a plus.
Hey! I enjoy the interaction here. I commented a lot early on and that helped me connect with people. I get that people come here for the rewards, but getting feedback on your posts has value too.
I do see some people churning out far more comments than me and I think that is partly driven by Ecency rewarding activity. If I get comments that do not seem sincere then they get nothing from me. Someone may say they enjoyed a video I did, but I can see from their history that they spent no more than a minute on my post. Some of those comments are very generic and may even be using the 'AI' tools. I care about engaging with real people.
Keep having fun.

I wouldn't think the Ecency rewards would be enough to do that, but you're probably right. I still respond to comments like that when I get them, but I am rolling my eyes as I do so, and my reply might have a little sarcasm in it.
Anyway, I agree with you, the feedback and interaction on posts is really where the best value is. Meeting people, having a pleasant discussion, hopefully bringing some joy to their lives. All these things add up to far more value than the money most of us make on the post.

.Good afternoon, @dbooster
In fact, since the year began, I've had this goal in mind of publishing daily on this platform. But unfortunately, I haven't had many comments that resonate with my ideas or thoughts in the posts. Occasionally, I get comments in which the photos are taken into account, or even an idea that I have written.
But most likely the "problem" is really with me! By not commenting as much, I don't allow interpersonal relationships, as you say, to grow.
I'll bear that in mind and try to make at least 5 comments on interesting posts. As for replying to comments on my posts, I always reply to everyone :) And it's a real pleasure to do so, even if it takes more than a day... Ahaahh
I hope that in a month's time I'll have managed to establish more contacts with some users of this platform.
As an example, from a post by livinguktawain, from SquatChallange, I got to know your posts... didn't I? I have to work harder to make this happen with more people
Cheers!
Yeah, exactly. It's kind of a chicken and the egg problem. Few people are going to comment on you until you go out and comment on them. That may not seem fair, and in some ways it's not, but that is how it works. But I try to do commenting without any expectation that I am going to receive anything in return. I just want to bring some joy to the people I comment on. I know how nice it can be to get a genuine comment on my post, so I want to bring that same joy to other people.
And believe me, that you really make the difference. I never forget that great challenge that "unite" us and make me be in touch with you. A small action can lead to a very important things. To mark other one's day with some joy is cost less, and so much valuable!
I'm glad to hear you say that. That challenge was fun! We should try to do more of those on Hive.
When I am not busy with IRL life, I tried to at least leave some comments around. It's nice leaving a comment or two and sometimes I can get chatty, depending on the topic they write about too.
Sounds good! I want to do the same more and more.
I totally agree with this! I love Stephen King books hahaha. I heard that he lives in a creepy house but I didn't know about his habit. I heard about Murakami Haruki, who also has a nice daily writing routine (I also like his books). It's good to have a healthy writing routine! I like to read your posts very much!
I haven't read much Murakami. I know he's incredibly popular all over the world, but I just haven't taken the time to try. I need to explore his books and read about his writing habits!
I've recently been making more of an effort to comment on posts on Hive. For a long time I had sorta misunderstood how to find posts that interested me and it discouraged me from being more active. Over the last month or two I feel I've kinda figured out how to find people and it's gotten me so much more interested in interacting with people. I really like your commitment to commenting on a specified number of posts per day. I feel convicted to make a goal like that for myself. Maybe something like commenting on five posts by people I follow and three to five posts by people I don't (yet).
I'm glad to hear you are slowly figuring it out. I think Hive could definitely do a better job providing a kind of guide on how to get started. @bitcoinman and @bulliontools are trying to address that and they are doing an amazing job so far.
There's definitely a steep learning curve to Hive. Hopefully, the Hive Onboarding Committee and other communities like The Terminal can help with this.

When I came into Hive it was because @steevc was already here and his understanding of community always seemed close to mine. While I enjoy understanding of the blockchain and rewards, my main reason to be here is blogging in the old style. When we used to make blogs on Blogger and WordPress it was about just the act of writing anything and everything. And comments were the currency of interacting over those ideas. If it was just a para or two write a comment, if more then that then write a blog answer and connect it to the comment. For me it gave me connection to a larger community outside my geographical constraints. I always felt that my tribe is more global and the comment thread seemed to be the best way for this tribe to interact without pressure of time or length of answer. I felt that this led to quite interesting discussions. Sadly that era had passed and the comments in Reddit, Twitter, Facebook etc. felt fast and hasty and very rarely did the threads have discussions per se. Great to see the old blog like culture alive here in this community and for me that means comments are a first class discussion and hopefully more of us will spend more time in this area so that we can all have nice fun and thoughtful conversations.
I hear you, my man. I've been blogging for nearly 28 years, starting on my university server long long ago, doing it all by hand in an era before CMSes, but quickly switching to Wordpress as soon as it grew stable enough. I still have a wordpress blog which I post to at least weekly. There still is a vibrant community out there, but it is much much less than it was, having been eroded by the sites you mention. I blog here more often, but I do still love that old Wordpress community. Anyway, it is really nice how Hive still embraces that blogging culture, complete with the focus on commenting and interacting with each other, made so much easier by the ease of linking to other people with the @ shortcut.
In India blogging (especially on platforms like WordPress) at the general level was alive till the Orkut years. Facebook pulled away the general bloggers who used to write for friends and family. And now 'blogging' == 'content creation here'. The simple posts I write will be considered the opposite of best practice. The whole idea is to choose your lane and stick to it. And that's the one thing I cannot do :D Even on LinkedIn nowadays it feels like one cannot write anything there without attaching three learning points from it :(
So for me, this is now a safe harbor :) But you are right, I should probably keep my WordPress alive too with some intermittent posts. By the way, my WordPress site is brijwhiz.wordpress.com.
Commenting on other people's post is not really my forte and when I entered hive I thought to myself that it's all about posting my blogs without considering how hive really works. That's why, when we post our first blog which is the introduction, I realize that in order for my blog to grow is to comment on others and reblog. But sometimes, I do not have the words to comment on others and 'interacting with others' is what I am really working on these past few hours.
Yeah, it is difficult sometimes to make a good comment. And it can take a surprising amount of time to go out, read other posts, make good comments. So I struggle with it too. But I think it is worth doing.
