SQL has definitely become the standard or at least some form of it. I think there are still a good number of apps that are based on Access you just don't see them as transparently. I remember doing my final project in university using Access and tying it into a web interface.

Haha that's crazy, I guess it's a decent thing that I'm learning some of it tangentially, in case I ever need it for another job LOL
I'm more of a LAMP type of guy these days for database stuff, but I kind of wish I had retained my SQL skills so I could dive deeper into all of it. The HIVE SQL interface feels really powerful.
