RE: Review Series: Severance | Separación [ESP-ENG]

Just finished Season 1 of Severance yesterday with @yugadi and wow… what a slow burn. And by “burn,” I mean one of those candles that take 9 hours to melt and give off zero scent.
Yes, the acting is solid. Yes, the sets and vibe are cool in that creepy, minimalist way. But my god, this show could’ve wrapped up in 3-4 episodes if it stopped lingering on hallways and staring contests.
It’s like they took a great concept and then said, “How about we stretch every scene to its absolute breaking point just for the aesthetic?” Stylish? Yes. Satisfying? Not so much.
By the time things finally started to happen, I’d emotionally checked out and was mentally redecorating the break room 🤣 I get the whole “artsy suspense” thing, but there’s a fine line between tension and tedium and Severance absolutely tap danced on it.
Omg YESSS, this is so accurate it hurts. Like, we really sat there for HOURS just to get an hour of actual plot sprinkled across 9 episodes. I was holding on thinking it’d all be worth it—and then it barely gave. Bro, the suspense was so slow it felt I was back in my school, daydreaming till the bell rings (till the episodes ends, in this case)
Not that I dint try to like it! I gave it my all for the first three episodes but then....
Well, the last episode was a bit of redemption.
Hopefully the second season will be a tad better 😭
what an amazing breakdown of the show and I totally agree. Due to not really having anything else to watch when Season 2 came out, I fired it up only to be quickly reminded about how slow this show actually is. Also, I couldn't remember anything that happened in season 1 because as you hinted at, not a great deal actually DID happen. I bailed by the middle of episode 2 of season 2.
The best way to recap season 1 is to just watch the last episode 😂 currently in S2E4 and trying so hard not to bail 🥲
