Review Series: Severance | Separación [ESP-ENG]

Hola amantes del cine y la televisión en hive, vuelvo con una review a una serie de la cual al inicio no tenía mucha idea de lo que trataba solo sabía que era de ciencia ficción y que la mayoría de sus escenas eran grabadas en una oficina mostrando sus oficios, me pareció bastante curiosa y sin querer indagar demasiado la comencé a ver lo cual fue una gran sorpresa con todos los temas que toca, la esencia de cada escena y todo el increíble trabajo actoral que tuvo. En esta review trataré de no dar ningún spoiler ya que a medida que avanza la serie el dar spoilers se vuelve algo complicado y ni la misma te deja darlos por la forma en la que hay que entender su historia y a sus personajes, con un gran elenco, comedia y suspenso fue una gran sorpresa el descubrir está serie y podría nombrarla como una de mis favoritas de este año. Hello movie and TV lovers in hive, I return with a review to a series of which at the beginning I did not have much idea of what it was about I only knew it was science fiction and that most of his scenes were recorded in an office showing their trades, I found it quite curious and without wanting to dig too much I started to see which was a big surprise with all the issues it touches, the essence of each scene and all the incredible acting work it had. In this review I will try not to give any spoilers because as the series progresses giving spoilers becomes complicated and even the series itself doesn't let you give them because of the way you have to understand its story and characters, with a great cast, comedy and suspense it was a great surprise to discover this series and I could name it as one of my favorites of this year. Comencemos hablando y conociendo un poco sobre el cast de la serie en el cual contamos con un reparto talentoso y multifacético, como protagonista tenemos al actor Adam Scott quien interpreta a Mark S. Un empleado ejemplar quien se ve en la tarea difícil de cumplir los deberes de un jefe de oficina al descubrir que su antiguo jefe y compañero ha renunciado, este personaje bastante recto y disciplinado se verá en un constante cambio tanto desafiante como exhaustivo por lo que podremos descubrir la razón por la que está trabajando en la empresa Lumon. Nuestros otros personajes principales están interpretados por Zach Cherry como Dylan G., Britt Lower como Helly R., John Turturro como Irving B., Patricia Arquette como Harmony Cobel quien es gerente del piso donde trabaja nuestro protagonista. Estos personajes forman un rompecabezas clave para el descubrimiento de lo que realmente ocurre en dicha empresa y formarán parte importante de que el mundo exterior sepa lo que hacen.

Separación o Severance es una serie estadounidense la cual puede llegar a sentirse como una serie normal, nuestros personajes se centran en su vida laboral, desarrollando sus habilidades, compartiendo conocimientos y sobretodo cumpliendo el reglamento. Sin embargo, poco a poco podemos ir notando como está burbuja de normalidad empieza a romperse y cada personaje comienza a tomar conciencia de lo que son, allí comienzan su viaje de autodescubrimiento en donde deberán descubrir en qué es en lo que trabajan realmente. Parte de lo que me atrapó de esta serie fue la idea de normalidad que plantea y como poco a poco ésta se distorsiona haciéndonos cuestionar la realidad misma, los avances en la tecnología y nuestra conciencia.

Severance is an American series which can feel like a normal series, our characters are focused on their work life, developing their skills, sharing knowledge and above all complying with the rules. However, little by little we can notice how this bubble of normality begins to break and each character begins to become aware of who they are, there they begin their journey of self-discovery where they must discover what they are really working on. Part of what caught me of this series was the idea of normality and how little by little this is distorted making us question reality itself, the advances in technology and our conscience.

Fue transmitida en el 18 de febrero de 2022 y cuenta con 2 temporadas y un total de 19 episodios, la primera temporada con 9 episodios y la segunda temporada con 10 episodios, dichos episodios cuentan con una duración de 37 a 60 minutos.

La trama se centra en la vida de Adam Scott quien luego de vivir la muerte de su esposa decide trabajar en la empresa Lumon Industries, la cual es conocida por realizar un procedimiento quirúrgico en sus empleados donde les permiten tener sus recuerdos de su vida cotidiana y los recuerdos de su vida laboral por separado a la cual llaman "Cercenadura". Los empleados se someten a este programa voluntariamente, la mayoría de ellos con el deseo de olvidar por unas horas su vida, sin embargo luego de algunos inconvenientes algunos de estos empleados comienzan a notar cambios extraños en su entorno y en sus comportamientos haciendo que se cuestionen su realidad y lo que realmente hacen mientras trabajan en sus oficinas.

Nuevamente conocí a esta serie gracias a un video edit del mismo que vi en tiktok (definitivamente tiktok es mi fuente para conseguir buenas series), mi curiosidad creció ya que parecía una serie bastante normal e incluso se veía un poco aburrida pero aún así le di una oportunidad y no me arrepiento en lo absoluto. Es una serie bastante extraña y de alguna manera te hace sentir que estás inmerso en la trama de alguna manera, sin embargo puedes notar que no todo es como parece con toda estas actitudes de los personajes que hacen que se sienta incluso robótica. Lo que me atrapó completamente fue la dinámica de los personajes así como también la historia, me intrigó conocer sobre dicha empresa así como también el conocer el por qué los personajes decidieron trabajar allí.

Al comenzar a ver los episodios me fui sumergiendo aún más en la trama, definitivamente está serie tuvo un increíble manejo de la trama, una dirección increíble y un diseño en la escenografía grandioso que te hace sentir extraño ver tanta normalidad y espacio. Porque si, las oficinas son extremadamente espaciosas lo cual hicieron que cuestionara el tamaño de todo el edificio, pero esto simplemente empeora cuando podemos conocer otras oficinas y otros departamentos. Lo que hace especial a esta serie es el trabajo que hay detrás de los personajes ya que al estar cercenados (lo cual sería como si les hicieran una lobotomía pero con un chip implantado) haciendo que su conciencia quede dividida en dos, curiosamente la conciencia que está en la oficina tiene actitudes muy diferentes a la conciencia del mundo exterior, aquí los actores mostraron sus capacidades de hacer este doble personaje sin la necesidad de buscar a una persona física que los reemplace, destacándose y mostrando las diferencias tan notables en ambas conciencias.

Again I met this series thanks to a video edit of it that I saw on tiktok (definitely tiktok is my source to get good series), my curiosity grew as it seemed like a pretty normal series and even looked a bit boring but I still gave it a chance and I don't regret it at all. It's a pretty strange series and somehow makes you feel like you are immersed in the plot somehow, however you can notice that not everything is as it seems with all these attitudes of the characters that make it feel even robotic. What caught me completely was the dynamics of the characters as well as the story, I was intrigued to learn about the company as well as why the characters decided to work there.

As I started watching the episodes I got even more immersed in the plot, this series definitely had an incredible handling of the plot, an incredible direction and a great set design that makes you feel strange to see so much normality and space. Because yes, the offices are extremely spacious which made me question the size of the whole building, but this just gets worse when we get to meet other offices and other departments. What makes this series special is the work behind the characters as they are severed (which would be like having a lobotomy but with an implanted chip) making their consciousness split in two, curiously the consciousness that is in the office has very different attitudes to the consciousness of the outside world, here the actors showed their abilities to make this double character without the need to look for a physical person to replace them, highlighting and showing the differences so noticeable in both consciousnesses.

La historia permite vislumbrar, desde la fantasía extrema, qué podría llegar a ocurrir si los problemas de la vida personal quedaran siempre, literalmente, del otro lado de la puerta de ingreso al trabajo. Y viceversa. Es una serie que se siente inmersiva y a la vez la normalidad se siente anormal. Cada mañana, a través de un recibimiento y revisión nuestro protagonista debe entrar en un ascensor en el cual cambia de conciencia y entra su conciencia del trabajo, en ésta escena de transición podemos notar tanto físicamente como a través de su personalidad el cambio drástico que presenta, ya que no solo notamos como es físicamente diferente a través de diferentes peinados sino que también vemos como su personalidad pasa a ser más disciplinado, correcto y de alguna manera tratando de ser un jefe ejemplar.

Los personajes son super complejos porque a primera vista podemos notarlos muy cómodos en su ambiente laboral pero luego de la llegada de Helly R. Quién llegó para ocupar el lugar de un empleado que renunció podemos notar los cambios en el ambiente, la conciencia de Helly muestra visiblemente su desagrado por estar allí haciendo lo que sea para poder renunciar pero como lo explica Mark "Puedes decidir renunciar pero al llegar al ascensor la conciencia del mundo exterior siempre escogerá regresar". Mostrándonos como esa conciencia del mundo exterior es la dominante por sobretodo y que tiene el control de decidir si continuar trabajando o dejarlo.

The story allows us to glimpse, from the extreme fantasy, what could happen if the problems of personal life were always, literally, on the other side of the door to work. And vice versa. It's a series that feels immersive and at the same time normality feels abnormal. Every morning, through a reception and review our protagonist must enter an elevator in which he changes consciousness and enters his work consciousness, in this transition scene we can notice both physically and through his personality the drastic change he presents, since not only we notice how he is physically different through different hairstyles but we also see how his personality becomes more disciplined, correct and somehow trying to be an exemplary boss.

The characters are super complex because at first glance we can notice them very comfortable in their work environment but after the arrival of Helly R. Who arrived to take the place of an employee who resigned we can notice the changes in the environment, Helly's consciousness visibly shows his dislike for being there doing whatever it takes to be able to quit but as Mark explains "You can decide to quit but when you get to the elevator the consciousness of the outside world will always choose to come back". Showing us how that consciousness of the outside world is the dominant one above all else and that it is in control of deciding whether to continue working or quit.

A través de sus dos temporadas (y gracias a Ben Stiller por confirmar que habrá tercera temporada), podemos ir conociendo a nuestros personajes y familiarizarnos con ellos. Asimismo podemos ir conociendo a los que son los jefes y también conocer lo que ocurre en la vida exterior de nuestros personajes. La serie cuenta con momentos completamente extraños y especiales que te harán preguntarte "¿Que hace eso así y Por qué hacen esto?" Ya que a través de los comportamientos podemos ir notando como está normalidad se fractura y se empieza a notar todo lo que no está bien, algunos de nuestros personajes comienzan a fracturarse igualmente mostrando que nos siempre son del todo correctos o que en ocasiones dejarán salir pequeños indicios de que quizás no son como los demás empleados.

La serie me engancho y me enamoró completamente, de hecho, de alguna manera me recuerda muchísimo al juego "The Stanley Parable" el cual presenta una dinámica bastante parecida ya que te muestran un lugar que parece ser normal pero que a través de tus acciones podrás ir descubriendo como quizás no todo lo que ves es parte de la realidad. Es graciosísima ya que en momentos donde todo parece tener sentido viene algún elemento o personaje a demostrar que no todo va hacia la dirección que pensábamos y esto hace que sea hilarante, a través de sus personajes que quieren desafiar a las autoridades podemos conseguir unas personalidades totalmente agradables y graciosas que aunque parezcan extrañas nos hacen sentir que por fin podemos notar algo humano en ellos.

Throughout its two seasons (and thanks to Ben Stiller for confirming that there will be a third season), we can get to know our characters and become familiar with them. We can also get to know the bosses and what happens in the outside life of our characters. The series has completely strange and special moments that will make you wonder "What does that do that and why do they do this?" Since through the behaviors we can go noticing how this normality is fractured and begins to notice everything that is not right, some of our characters also begin to fracture showing that they are not always completely correct or sometimes let out little hints that perhaps they are not like other employees.

The series hooked me and I fell in love completely, in fact, somehow it reminds me a lot of the game "The Stanley Parable" which has a very similar dynamic as it shows you a place that seems to be normal but through your actions you will discover that maybe not everything you see is part of reality. It is hilarious because at times when everything seems to make sense comes some element or character to show that not everything is going in the direction we thought and this makes it hilarious, through their characters who want to challenge the authorities we can get a totally nice and funny personalities that although they seem strange make us feel that we can finally notice something human in them.

Me encantó esta serie y estoy muy emocionada por lo que vendrá para la tercera temporada, en la primera y la segunda temporada podemos entender bastante la historia, el origen y la vida externa de nuestros protagonistas y el final de ambas nos deja con ganas de ver más de ella. No esperaba este nivel de dirección del actor Ben Stiller pero al verlo quede completamente sorprendida y encantada sobretodo en las escenas de comedia las cuales son lo que los destacan en sus roles actorales. Toda la serie es un rompecabezas que mientras ves lo vas armando en tu cerebro y de alguna manera podemos incluso llevarnos a sentir igual de abrumados y confundidos como los personajes.

Es una historia fascinante e integrante que despierta a la curiosidad, desenvuelve emociones y te abre el cerebro a imaginar como seria este tipo de realidad. Fue una sorpresa para mi conseguir una serie así de bien trabajada, de alguna me recordó a Succession ya que tiene algunos elementos en los escenarios de oficina y en las actitudes de los personajes que me recuerdan a todo ese ambiente de los Roy pero añadiéndole un poco de ciencia ficción, es original, el elenco encaja perfectamente con sus personalidades y aunque haya personajes a los que quieres odiar terminarás por quererlos ya que su carisma te enamora completamente. Hace unos días que la terminé y simplemente mi mente no deja de unir hilos y conectar teorías, la forma en las que se unen la paleta de colores, los escenarios y los vestuarios con las personalidades de los personajes es increíble y cada vez que encuentro una semejanza entre algún aspecto material con una característica de sus personalidades se me hace el corazón chiquito. Sin duda, la recomiendo fielmente, a pesar de que en ocasiones se pueda sentir algo lenta vale completamente la pena la espera y las emociones que evoca son inexplicables.

I loved this series and I am very excited for what is to come for the third season, in the first and second season we can understand a lot of the story, the origin and the external life of our protagonists and the end of both leaves us wanting to see more of it. I did not expect this level of direction from the actor Ben Stiller but when I saw it I was completely surprised and delighted especially in the comedy scenes which are what make them stand out in their acting roles. The whole series is a puzzle that as you watch it you put it together in your brain and somehow we can even feel as overwhelmed and confused as the characters.

It is a fascinating and integrating story that awakens curiosity, unravels emotions and opens your brain to imagine what this kind of reality would be like. It was a surprise for me to get a series this well worked, it reminded me of Succession because it has some elements in the office scenarios and in the attitudes of the characters that remind me of the Roy's environment but adding a bit of science fiction, it is original, the cast fits perfectly with their personalities and although there are characters that you want to hate you will end up loving them because their charisma makes you fall in love with them completely. It's been a few days since I finished it and simply my mind does not stop joining threads and connecting theories, the way in which the color palette, the scenery and costumes are united with the personalities of the characters is incredible and every time I find a similarity between some material aspect with a characteristic of their personalities makes my heart go pitter-patter. Without a doubt, I faithfully recommend it, even though at times it can feel a little slow it is completely worth the wait and the emotions it evokes are inexplicable.
