Creating a quality video with AI – lets' get started

You have probably seen some videos generated by AI and there are definitely some nice ones among them. There is however also a lot of low quality content out there. In this series, I would like to show you how to create videos step by step with AI that tell a story and have a minimum quality standard.

The project

For the purpose of this series, I will try to create a video for the Liotes project. In the context of this project, we initiated a story where a space ship with humans have left earth and are trying to find a planet where they can build up a new settlement. They discovered the planet Liotes. It is a planet with a lot of wind and to start with, they installed power units that transformed the wind into energy. With this energy, they built the initial settlement by melting the sand on the surface and using big 3D printers to build the domes. The last time we have heard anything about the progress of the settlement was in November 2022. Even if it takes long to settle a planet, I believe it's high time that we get news from the settlers on Liotes around Tanja Lemaire.

That is what I want to do through a video that will be generated by AI. The idea is to have a video with several scenes from the settlement, the planet and also with a part where one of the settlers talks to the camera. There will be several scenes that will need to be combined.

With these series, I will take you step by step through the creation process and hopefully we will make a nice looking video.

The tools that I will use

There are plenty of AI tools to generate images and videos and we will need several of them. In order to avoid the recurrent costs of several platforms, I am using a platform that not only allows me to generate images and videos but also gives me access to plenty of different high-end models. The platform I'm using is called Openart. I have a premium plan on it that gives me 24'000 credits every month.

Why not free platforms?

There are quite a lot of platforms that allow you to generate images for free and even a couple of sites where you can generate some free videos. Unfortunately, these platforms cannot compete with the quality of high-end models. For this project, I want to come up with a quality video.

Editing

To edit the video, I will use platforms like capcut or canva that are free to use and allow me to do most of the things that I need.

Sound

The biggest problem I find while producing videos with AI is to come up with quality sounds that match the scenes. For that, I mainly use sources that are free to use but are not AI based like Pixabay. This is not the most satisfactory solution but at least a solution.

How to get started

The first step in the creation process is to know what we want to build. What story do we want to convey and how will we put it into scene.

Even if AI allows us to do a lot of things, it's still a pretty time consuming and costly endavour. Therefore, our video will be rather short probably somewhere between 1 and 2 minutes.

Another point to keep in mind is where and how we will publish it in the end. Will it be a short video or a traditional video? This will define the image ratio which we need to define from the beginning. We will post our video on youtube and on 3speak and we will therefore use a landscape format 16:9.

In the next post, we will get started with building the storyboard for the video.

I'm looking forward to learning how to create videos from scratch.

I'm looking backward to stories about Liotes that are new to me. Because I wasn't active here when Planet Liotes was being settled. I see that I have some catching up to do. But at first glance, I think I have some entertaining posts to read.

We started with the lore of colonizing Liotes and the LENM and LEN were a part of it. We kind of neglected it for a time and then some years passed :-). I'd like to revive the lore a bit using the new technology available and make some videos.

This ought to be interesting. I'm looking forward to your (hopefully easy to follow) instructions in the follow-up posts.

I will try to keep things as easy to follow as possible. I hope I will manage ;-)

Space stories are always interesting to me, enough room to be creative and experiment. Looking forward to the process in creating the video in future posts. In the meantime, I'll check out the project itself, as I've heard of it a couple of times now :)

I'm personnaly running the Liotes project together with @ph1102. It would be nice to welcome you in the Liotes community ;-)

That's an interesting step forward. I remember when we discussed (maybe in 2022, not sure) about a game from the Liotes planet story... In that time, it was not possible to edit or create a video using AI. But now that's possible. Maybe a game, too? This needs research. I'll check this OpenArt tool. By the way, I tried to use Canva AI for some pictures over the last few weeks, and I'm impressed. I'm seriously thinking about replacing my old Photoshop with the paid Canva version...

I have been using Canva for all my creative work for a couple of years now and I also have the premium account that allows me to set brand sets for my different projects. I find it very useful and also I can access it over any browser which makes it the perfect tool for me.

Not sure about the tool you got never used it , but I would say the free offerings have gotten better grok can get a fair bit of animation done free, videoExpress 2.0 is nice and a one time cost , I really like it but like I said maybe you can get away with just using grok it is actually faster then most paid offering but not necessarily the greatest model but can't really beat free, sound is indeed tricky but my answer is always more AI 🤣 so make the video then ask the AI to make a soundtrack prompt around that (model that can watch the video lots nowadays can ), give that to something like suno and have it generate the audio slap em together not necessarily going to have SFX but that's the easiest AI powered workflow for your project easy dialogue could be like a musical ie the lyrics with the music generating AI (and the prompt assuming you go that route)

Here is what I made recently fully AI

You did a great job here. I know how tricky it is to keep character consistency and you did well. Thanks for the input!

I don't like when people steal other people's art to train models for replacing them. Sad world

I agree with you there. At least the artists should have an appropriate financial return for it.

I think it will be interesting, but I think that the rules regarding AI and other things are still changing now.

I think that a lot of people don't really grasp what AI is and what it can do. If you let AI write a post for you, then I think you can't claim any rights for it. However if you use AI to help you code stuff, create videos or any other thing where AI helps in the creative process, then it's a tool for people to reach further.
