What is Your Preferred Smartphone Category?: Budget vs Mid Range vs Flagship
Even just a few years ago, the cheapest smartphones were barely functioning devices. Since I live in one of the more developing areas of the world, the cheapest devices cost less than $100 after getting some serious taxes. Mid rangers used to be where you got the best bang per buck. This is certainly not the reality in 2025. There are phones with 120 Hz screens with near 2 day battery with enough RAM to multitask with browser, messenger, camera (not the best) without an issue. Such a device can be purchased for around $120.

I don't want to spend too much money on the phone and this is why I buy a phone which is in the mid range. Last week I purchased my new phone and it is from Motorola. I'll try to share the unboxing photos soon. for me mid is good.
Even budget devices are more than enough if you don't care about the camera.
Since phone companies use planned obselesence, the high end phone will become a mid range device in a few years.
Sadly, some companies appear to build an expiration date into the phone. Old phones are likely to die.
So, I tend to go for midrange phones.

Software support is the biggest problem as it is dangerous to use a device that has not received the latest security patches.
Normally I’m mid range but this phone has lasted me a while and I’m going to go with a flagship one next purchase later on this year. That honestly might last me 10+ years with how good and durable they are becoming lol
We have devices getting 7 years of security updates. At that point the battery might have run its course. The only big use cases I see for a powerful device right now is AI and gaming. Current flagships should last you a long time. Best of Luck!
Yeah, I'm going with a Graphene OS phone, and I've heard those last incredibly long on the newer models. Looking forward to trying it!
Consensus is that GrapheneOS is the best for privacy and security among DeGogled Android versions.
