Sweet Regress (An Original Poem)

(Edited)

Deep within our branches
we long to move
to an ever-new wilderness,
explore grassy fields, unknown.

We crave an alternate reality,
to escape the long, dry
years of life and all of the
differing aspects of our sorrow.

I wish to revisit those moments
my subconscious has hidden,
a myriad of treasured memories,
of innocence, and of laughter.

So many times I was stolen away,
transported to a land of magic,
fueled by imagination, lack of cares,
and the warmth of the sun.

In this life, fate will take from you
all that it can steal but from our memories
we read a completely different story—
we are limitless, we belong to no one.

~EVW~

All for now. Thanks so much for reading.

This rings even more true as we get older. We really need to work hard to steal back those moments!

With each year, @bozz. It's so important to guard and preserve the wonder and curiosity of youth at all costs. Recently I've subscribed to this YouTube channel and he interviews people who look interesting on the street and tries to learn from their wisdom. A whole lot of lessons can be found in those videos.

That is very interesting. I really need to spend more time watching some of the content that is out there.

This is hauntingly beautiful. A perfect tribute to the power of the subconscious and the treasured memories that keep us going through the dry years. Truly well written!

I like how you use the metaphor of the tree to talk about man. Our branches will always seek to expand and reach the unimaginable. These days I was reading about a case of a man who had an accident and had “selectively” lost his memory. He erased from his brain that he got married, that he had children, and that one of them had died. He remembered his youth, his childhood, and even his college years. I feel that we survive thanks to the happiest moments, that our grounding cable is those moments of happiness and the desire to relive them, to have as much or more happiness than we experienced. I hope you had a nice Valentine's Day, Eric. Hugs.

Thank you Nancy! You're so right, happy memories are like an emotional bank account we can draw on when times get tough. I hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day too! Hugs to you my friend.

Good day, dear friend @ericvancewalton

What a beautiful composition! I was fascinated by this verse; how true it is.

"In this life, fate will take away
everything it can steal, but from our memories
we read a completely different story:

we are limitless, we belong to no one."

Have a great day!

No matter how big a problem we are in our life, if we don't start enjoying our life again, then we become a victim of mental depression. Problems come and go in life, but they can be solved. That's why life is short and can end at any time, so we should live it by enjoying it.

This is a real celebration in a poem. We can get stuck on negative thoughts but it is always in our own interest to reframe them and concentrate on the positives. I love how you have invited us the readers to cherish our inner worlds as limitless realms of hope and innocence.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Our state of mind and being really does reframe the lens in which we experience the world. I think it also attracts certain things into our lives—if we're constantly in a negative state we have more hardship, if we're more optimistic good things tend to come our way.
