Monthly Zekely - No Summertime Blues Here!

zekely5.jpg

Only 3 weeks since the last Weekly Zekely but they are summer weeks!

This edition, summer adventure is abound as we spend plenty of time enjoying the outdoors in the hot weather.

On the Last Episode...

IMG_5963.JPG

...Summer had settled in and I was back racing sailboats for the first time in over 5 years!

IMG_6278.JPG

I was lucky enough to get out again, this time in an actual race. Still figuring out this boat but we smoked the fleet in this casual cruise of a race.

Beer

IMG_6136 (1).JPG

Summer is one of the best seasons for beer and the last 3 weeks have been no exception. A couple beers with the boys in the studio as we rehearse for a festival show we have later this summer.

IMG_6211 (1).JPG

Camping, road trips and golf are screwing with the brewing schedule a little. Too much time spent enjoying summer is a pretty good problem to have and brewery dog helped see to it we have another NEIPA in the fermenter.

IMG_6114.jpg

Speaking of dogs and beer, I sure am loving the long warm evenings of bright sky on the deck. Pretty sweet for reading the summer book and hanging with sir sniffsalot.

More Dogs

IMG_6074.jpg

I probably have a picture of this flying dog with the same fun look on his face in every season. Summer is a little more special for him as there are more dogs in the park, water in the stream and dog pools, and his people are a little more likely to play outside with him.

IMG_6069.JPG

We also take him camping which is a little outside of his routine but he seems to enjoy it just as much. Loves swimming at the beach too which is pretty summery.

Work

IMG_6078 (1).JPG

A little lighter on the work than normal as people tend to take their foot off the gas a little. These guys are in the middle of First Cut premium Canadian Hay season. Plenty of hay farmers around these parts and this client ships to the midwest and southern states.

IMG_6165 (2).JPG

This may not seem like work but it actually is. Another client in full swing is upscale restaurant destination and events venue Revival House is squarely in their 90 days of August. I am just here to snap pics of a full terrace for them to share on social media. Wonderful summer destination.

What Else?

IMG_6184 (1).JPG

A little more Jiu Jitsu. It is unfortunately easy to let summer get in the way of martial arts training and physical routine. Guilty as charged. Still, I make it here at least once per week and am looking for a solid return in September when schedules even out.

IMG_6257.JPG

A little gardening of course! The garden is going nuts and threatening to bury me in tomatoes and sphagetti squash. The peppers are growing nicely as well and I picked one despite it not being red yet. I have been reading that picking the first fruit on a plant before it is ready inspired more growth. In addition to that, I can't wait for all the veggies to be ready and enjoy the early samples now. Should have another #HiveGarden post ready this week to bring you into my garden.

IMG_6154.JPG

Goofing off. This is a hazy memory about 2 in the morning after a long night in the studio celebrating a birthday and singing songs. Had to stop for one last smoke before the wobbly bike ride home through the big city. A little pit stop by a tree too if you look closely.

Until Next Time...

IMG_6042.JPG

I should probably end here before I get into the real incriminating evidence. Summer is a time for celebration of life, especially in the north where the winters are longer. Only half way down though with plenty of summer adventure left in the pipe. The next Zekely should be epic.

Thanks for sharing the summer adventure!

Ahoy sailor! Congrats!! I'm sooo jealous - I haven't been on a sailboat for over 5 years too! So happy to see you back on the water! What boat is it? Looks like around 25 footer... How did you guys do in the race?

It is a J90 which is about 30 feet. Covid screwed racing so it has been a long 5 years! We pounded the fleet but they were mostly Sunday sailors and cruising boats. ;)

Cool! 25-30 feet is my jam :) It reminds me of the first boat I ever sailed, and my first sail happened to be a race in Miami - which made me fall in love with sailing. I think it was a Beneteau, with a small cabin and a long cockpit. But i honestly forgot all the details 😭

That's really so cool, you got so many amazing things to do in a day and that was absolutely so fascinating for me to go through all of them!
Have a good day!!

Life is what you make it and a blog is better shared with people who enjoy it! Thanks!

I barely paid attention to beer process, nothing beats sailing, sunshine and cold beers with the crew, you're making the most of summer

Sailboat racing.. who knew. Maybe you and @novacadian should meet up and race Makina

Damn, @davedickeyyall, your comment had me stoked to possibly being able to press gang another crewmember; yet alas his choice of brewski makes him likely to be sailing the Great Lakes... where Makina had been purchased last summer ironically enough.

@zekepickleman already has my follow; yet has not been showing up, noticeably, on my feed of late. Watching with interest. 😎👍

You might have to resort to pirating to get another crew member...

Ah another name from the past! It seems a few of the people I followed in the past were not showing up so I checked and needed to follow again!

It is a bit of a hike from these parts to the east coast for a boat whore like me. If I ever get out that way, I will have to look you up for a !BEER

Lemme see if I've got this right: you race sailboats, brew beer, consult for and assist restaurants, grow your own food, do Jiu Jitsu, go camping, walk your dog (s?), have some sort of job (can't remember - are you an electrician?), play in a working band, read books, publish epic posts, and still have time to goof off?

Very upbeat and energizing post! Makes me wanna dance!

Haha awesome! That covers some of what I enjoy doing and the work is just so I can afford goofing off.

Dance away!
