Two ounces in the hand is worth a barrel of cash

2013 Maple oz vs 2025 Maple oz,

A Mother and Son looking at each other.

The 2025 Maple oz I bought in July at a Spot price of 51.95 for $57.45

I used to shovel sidewalks for 50 cents as a kid, which was good money due to the silver content of those coins! I am not sure who decided to take the money out of our coins.

'The approximate current silver melt value of a 0.1507 oz
0.1507 oz pre-1966 Canadian quarter is about $8.56 Canadian dollars as of September 2025.'*

So I was smart to charge fifty cents for shovelling a sidewalk, those quarters had I kept them would be worth $8.56. I was earning $17.12 per sidewalk! That's value.

Had a beautiful gold 7g canadian maple leaf in my wallet for YEARS until circumstance had me sell it to the for lack of a better term robber / gold buyer.. Ended up only getting 70% of it's spot weight.. I miss that coin.

I feel like Scrooge McDuck, missing his lucky dime. I had a Gold dime once, sold it sadly, but I will get it back eventually. Must be worth $400 now!

Always check the date on your change! Some coins are worth much more than face value.

I do tend to horde non-standard minted coins. I had a nice box of them at one point.. No idea where it ended up with the moving. D:<

There is so little chance of finding silver coins still circulating in public. I did find a 1964 10 Cents on the street about ten years ago. No one picked it up except lucky me. The second was a 1967 Mackerel silver 10 cents I found more recently from the reject tray of a Coinstar change counter machine.

!PIZZA you are right they are rare indeed. If I was PM, I would immediately start minting Gold Pennies. Make our currency money again, at a high value.
